Star-led festival to honor Michael Jackson and Jackson family in Gary. Brothers attending
A block party celebrating one of the biggest families in entertainment is on tap for Indiana. The City of Gary will host the "2300 Jackson Street Block Party" August 29-30, honoring the Jackson family, including Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and the Jackson 5. Comedian and actor Chris Tucker and Grammy-winning Gary native Deniece Williams will host, while DJ Kid Capri performs at the free event that will feature food trucks, vendors and a kids play zone. The festivities will take place from noon to 7 p.m. each day. The August 29 celebration will focus on Michael Jackson on his birthday. On August 30, the entire Jackson family will be honored. Though named for the childhood home of the nine musical children of Joe and Katherine Jackson, the Jacksons block party will take place at Roosevelt High School, 730 W. 25th Ave. The now-closed school is where, in 1966, the Jackson 5 won its first talent show. Jackie and Marlon Jackson will be honored guests at the event. Michael Jackson's childhood home: How to visit in Gary, Indiana Brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael Jackson formed the Jackson 5 in Gary and had four consecutive number-one Billboard Hot 100 hits from their 1969 Motown debut album ("I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save," "I'll Be There"). After Jermaine left the group in 1976, their youngest brother, Randy, stepped in, and the band was renamed the Jacksons ("Blame It on the Boogie," "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)"). The Jackson 5 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, was inducted as a solo artist in 2001, and their sister Janet Jackson was inducted in 2019. Sisters Rebbie and La Toya also recorded albums that yielded hit singles. August 29 August 30 For information, visit

Legendary '90s Boy Band Star, 48, is Unrecognizable in New Photos
Growing up in the '90s, it was nearly impossible to remain totally immune to the boy band craze. Though there were more than a few who made their mark on music during this time, one of the most prolific during this time was NSYNC. The music group is best known for hits like "Bye Bye Bye" and "I Want You Back" — and for launching the careers of its members, which included Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and JC Chasez. And when Chasez, 48, was photographed while out and about this week, he looked totally unrecognizable. 🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 According to The Sun, Chasez was seen with long hair and a beard — two things he did not have during his boy band days! — while picking up food near the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. See all the photos from Chasez's outing here. Fans who follow Chasez on social media already know that he doesn't post on Instagram very frequently, but even looking back on his most recent post, which he shared in January, he looks completely different. Here's what he looked like just a few months ago: Changing looks are normal for all of us — former boy band legends included — and it's good to see that he continues to stay close to his NSYNC buddies all these years later. And though he's no longer busting choreographed moves on stage during world tours like he once did, Chasez is still making music today. Last year, he released his Frankenstein-themed concept album, Playing With Fire, and he continues to work as a songwriter. Maybe we'll see more of Chasez soon. Hope he enjoyed that dinner he picked up! Legendary '90s Boy Band Star, 48, is Unrecognizable in New Photos first appeared on Parade on May 23, 2025

Spice Girls star Mel B reveals heartbreaking reason she is 'always sad' just before her birthday
Mel B is "always sad" just before her birthday. The Spice Girls star will celebrate her milestone 50th birthday on May 29, but hasn't really made any big plans for a party and admitted that on the day before, she always feels down because she "misses" her late father Martin, who died in 2017. She told UsWeekly: "I'm not really a party person. I can celebrate, but I always feel like there's so much pressure for you to be happy on that day. My dad's birthday was the day before mine, and I always spent my birthdays with him. He passed in 2017, so I don't know what's going to happen for my 50th. The day before, I'm always sad. I miss my dad." The 'I Want You Back' hitmaker will become the fourth member of the Spice Girls to reach the milestone birthday, following on from Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham - who reunited with her former bandmates during a major party where they performed their hit single 'Stop' - and Melanie C, with Baby Spice Emma Bunton set to turn 50 in January 2026. The 'America's Got Talent' judge was then asked if ther is anything she intends to do differently once she reaches her fifties, and explained that she is just trying to get to "know herself more and more" as the years go on and is feeling confident at the onset of her new decade. She said: "I'm getting to know myself more and more. I've really had to work on that, and I'm going to be working on that for the rest of my life. I'm ever-evolving. I like myself. So 50, even though it's a big thing, I'm like, bring it on." Meanwhile, Mel has been engaged to hairdresser Rory McPhee since 2022 and as they prepare to tie the knot, she described her significant other as someone who has "so much compassion and understanding" within himself. She said: "So much compassion and understanding. He's very special. He's a very confident man, and that, to me, is a man. He makes me feel so safe!"

Mel B 'never would have been in the Spice Girls' had it not been for this one person
Mel B "would probably never have been in the Spice Girls" had it not been for her local dance teacher. The 49-year-old pop star found global fame as a member of the world's best-selling girl group in the late 1990s alongside Geri Halliwell, Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham, but only found a "passion for performance" because there was a cheap class in her hometown of Leeds at a time when her parents could not afford anything else. She told Living Yorkshire magazine: "Like I say I've grown up being very honest and telling it as it is, which served me well both as a Spice Girl and as a judge on shows from America's Got Talent to Masked Singer in Australia and X-Factor in the UK. As a hyperactive seven-year-old I was taught dance in a local community centre by Jean Pearce. Lessons cost about 50 pence as my parents would not have been able to afford it otherwise. Those dance lessons - I was also in the first ever intake for the Northern School of Contemporary Dance - gave me a passion for performance and I would probably never have been in the Spice Girls had it not been for lovely Jean." The 'I Want You Back' singer has been taken all over the world by her career, but now lives back in Yorkshire on a farm and hasn't found anything else that can compare to the countryside view she wakes up to every morning. She said: "Yorkshire people are the best because they have the greatest sense of humour, they love a good time, and they are not afraid to tell it like it is. But I now live on a farm way out in the countryside, and I wake up every day with my goats, my hens, my ducks and my three dogs and spend as much time as I can outside because it is just beautiful - you cannot beat a Yorkshire view." The former 'America's Got Talent' judge previously revealed that she has a shed on her farm that she has decked out to celebrate her heyday with the 'Wannabe' hitmakers. Speaking on the 'Mad, Sad and Bad' podcast, she told host Paloma Faith: "I go up to the field and I spend all day with my chickens and my goats, and I've got this little shed that I've got a Union Jack and leopard print on. "And I just sit there and I stare at my animals and be by myself, and I love it. "There's always been a bit of that in me, because I like the silence and the stillness. Because when I'm out and about, I'm like this, so you can't be like this all the time … I'll just pretend I've lost my phone. I'll go and sit with the animals for hours."
