Thiago: I've never felt better
Igor Thiago says he is feeling 'very good and strong' ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Off the back of scoring Brentford's goal in a 1-1 pre-season friendly draw against club strategic partner and Primeira Liga side Gil Vicente, he is confident that he'll continue to find the back of the net for Keith Andrews' side this campaign. 'I'm feeling very good, very strong, very different to how I felt last year," said the 24-year-old. "I've never felt better. 'I've probably had to do a little bit more work than the other players over the summer but I've also wanted to relax my head and not focus just on football. 'My goals are very specific and personal to me, but the main thing is that I want to be in the best possible form, the best possible shape to do what Brentford hired me to do – and that's score goals. 'I want to be in the best possible form, the best possible shape to do what Brentford hired me to do – and that's score goals' The west Londoners returned to Portugal for another pre-season tour this month, with Andrews and the new-look coaching staff putting the players though their paces at Cidade do Futebol, the Portuguese national team's training base. 'It's a different mentality and a different way to work," Thiago explained. "It's good because we can learn different ways of thinking and different ways of playing. 'The main difference has been the work with the ball. Instead of just focusing on the running, we've been working with the ball and on the more technical side of things." Alongside a rigorous camp and the aforementioned Gil Vicente friendly, the 10-day tour has also provided an important bonding opportunity for the players. 'It's been very nice because the team is united," Thiago continued. "We have the professional side of it but also the friendships are very good. I've been at other clubs and the energy was not like it is here, not as united. 'It's very important because the connection we have in these moments helps us when we're playing out on the pitch. It helps to build our relationships.'

Bees 'hold all the cards' on Wissa's future
Much has been written about Yoane Wissa and his apparent desire to go on strike to force a move away from Brentford. We will only know the truth when we see if Wissa turns up for training this week. One thing I am sure about, though, is that Brentford never would have promised Wissa a year ago that he could leave this summer. Everybody knew this would be the time when Bryan Mbeumo would move on and the club would not have agreed to let them both go at the same time. Things may have been different if record signing Igor Thiago, who barely played last campaign following a pre-season injury, had been fit. Last year would have been the Brazilian's settling-in season, but as he is a year behind schedule, Wissa's Premier League experience is still very much needed. In the past, Brentford sold players way too cheaply, but no longer. We hold all the cards here, with a one-year option in the club's favour meaning Wissa is still effectively under contract for two more seasons. However, the Bees always say every player has a valuation and if that is met then we are open to selling, but that could be why a figure of £50m has been mentioned - to put off clubs. Thiago is the main striking alternative but winger Kevin Schade could play through the middle. However, if Wissa goes then another experienced Premier League striker will be needed. This season is hard to predict, as nobody knows whether Keith Andrews is a good manager - only time will tell. Losing Christian Norgaard, in particular, was a massive blow but Jordan Henderson is a good and clever replacement. Everybody will write us off but I am optimistic that, given the talent we have, we will still be a Premier League club in 12 months' time. Find more from Ian Westbrook at Beesotted podcast

Will Bees break transfer record for Hutchinson?
If Brentford are to sign Ipswich's Omari Hutchinson, they will have to make him the most expensive player in their history - having already had a £35m bid turned only player the Bees have paid £30m or more for is Brazilian striker Igor Thiago, who has started just one Premier League game since joining last summer because of a knee Kevin Schade briefly became the Bees' record buy when his loan move from Freiburg was made permanent two years ago, but that deal was eclipsed when Nathan Collins arrived from Wolves for £23m a month Brentford's recruitment has largely been funded by player sales, their spending shows just how far they have progressed under owner Matthew Benham. It was as recently as 2014 that they made their first seven-figure signing, paying £1m to Leyton Orient for Moses Odubajo.

Will Brentford decide time is right to cash in?
After another positive season for Brentford, I don't expect - or want - to see much change this that depends on what bids come in for our Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa will inevitably attract interest, and I've said here before that Mbeumo will probably be sold. He has played a massive part in our rise and is is an interesting one, though. Every Bees player has his price, and if a bid comes in at a suitable level, the club would discuss a sale. He has had the best season of his career and is 29 in September, so, given our working model, Brentford could decide we should cash in while he is at maximum Wissa's importance is not just his goals but also his personality. His infectious on-pitch smile and character, for example, in pushing newer players forward to receive post-match applause from us fans, is invaluable, and he would also be a huge loss.I have always thought we wouldn't let both players go in the same transfer window, but the club may feel it is right. I'd love to see them both get new contracts, though! If Wissa does leave and Igor Thiago becomes the main striker, then I think we would revert to playing two up front, as when we had Ivan Toney. Thiago appears to be a target man like Toney, so we may adjust our style to suit him.I don't see any other key players going - with the likes of Mikkel Damsgaard, Keane Lewis-Potter and Nathan Collins all on long are well covered in all positions - and making Michael Kayode's loan move permanent further strengthened us - and with a good mix of youth and experience in the squad, I don't think we need many other new Thomas Frank may interest other clubs, I believe - and hope - he will stay with more from Ian Westbrook at Beesotted podcast, external
