Russia targets Southeast Asian markets for grain exports
MOSCOW - Russia is targeting large markets in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Bangladesh for grain exports in the new marketing season that began on July 1, Ilya Ilyushin, head of state export agency Agroexport, said on Thursday. Russia, the world's largest wheat exporter, is seeking to diversify agricultural exports beyond traditional buyers such as Egypt and Turkey, which bans imports periodically to support domestic producers. Last season Russia boosted wheat supplies to Vietnam fourfold. "Right now, our goal is to enter the Southeast Asian market. This includes not only Vietnam and Bangladesh, but also Malaysia and the Philippines. These are large countries with significant purchasing power and grain imports," Ilyushin said. Bangladesh became the third-largest buyer of Russian wheat last season. Russia expects to achieve a 4% larger grain harvest of 135 million tons in 2025, despite drought in some regions, and plans to export 45 million tons of wheat in the current season, compared with 44 million tons last season. Eduard Zernin, a board member of Russia's Grain Producers and Exporters Union and CEO of Bio-ton agricultural holding, said that Russia is likely to face tough competition from Australia, the United States, and Canada in Southeast Asia. "This is a powerful group with ambitious competitors. They have their own goals and objectives, their own ways of doing business. And we need to be prepared for tougher competition," Zernin said.

TV BRICS signs pact to promote Russian farm exports in BRICS+ countries
The TV BRICS International Media Network has signed an agreement with a Russian state agency to support the promotion of Russian agro-industrial products in the foreign markets of BRICS+ countries. The cooperation agreement was signed by Ivan Polyakov, chairman of TV BRICS, and Ilya Ilyushin, director of the Federal Centre for Agricultural Export Development (Agroexport), at the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. According to the agreement, the joint activities will aim to build a positive image of Russia's agricultural sector in the global information space. This will involve showcasing national industry-leading companies, promoting Russian products abroad, and involving agricultural and processing enterprises in export activities. 'Media play an important role in supporting Russia's agro-industrial complex, helping to promote products in foreign markets and form a positive image of the industry. Today we face a crucial task – to develop a global dialogue among friendly nations,' said Ilya Ilyushin, head of Agroexport. 'I am confident that cooperation with TV BRICS will enable us to promptly deliver all necessary information about the development of trade relations among BRICS countries to a multibillion audience.' Ivan Polyakov of TV BRICS emphasised that food security and the sustainable development of agriculture are a priority for the network's agenda, as they align with the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. The network cited its series of television films, 'Agroparallels,' produced with its Brazilian partner Agro+ TV and dedicated to agricultural cooperation between the two countries, as an example of its work in this area. Polyakov also announced the upcoming premiere in 2025 of a new television project, 'BRICS GRAIN,' which will focus on sustainable agricultural development, support for agricultural diplomacy, and strengthening cooperation between Russia and countries of the Global South and East. Agroexport, established by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, is a centre for expertise in agricultural exports. It coordinates and monitors the implementation of the federal project 'Agro-Industrial Exports' and cooperates with regional agricultural bodies to develop Russia's export potential. The centre provides analysis of foreign markets, assesses trade barriers, and assists Russian exporters in obtaining information and building direct communication with international buyers of Russian agricultural products.

The collaboration aims to enhance the global image of Russia's agricultural sector by highlighting leading national producers, promoting Russian goods in overseas markets, and encouraging export-oriented growth among agro-processing enterprises, as reported by TV BRICS. Agroexport, a key agency under the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, supports exporters through in-depth market analysis, barrier assessments, international promotion, and buyer engagement.
