Barcelona transfer exit hits the buffers due to two reasons

Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena has been waiting by the exit door all summer, but remains unable to complete a move away from the Catalan giants. After manager Hansi Flick dropped Pena in January last season for Wojciech Szczesny, his future at the club effectively came to an end. Having not committed any major errors, Pena felt hard-done by when Flick elected to go with Szczesny, who did make several high-profile mistakes when introduced. It was a decision that made up Pena's mind to seek pastures new. Barcelona holding onto Pena – for now One of the key reasons Pena has not moved on yet is Barcelona's registration situation. With Marc-Andre ter Stegen injured, and Joan Garcia and Szczesny yet to be registered, Pena remains the only fit senior goalkeeper that is, with their debut in La Liga on Saturday. Until Garcia and Szczesny are registered, Sport report Barcelona will not take the risk of leaving themselves exposed without a senior option. Image via FC Barcelona Como door closing for Pena It could be costly for Pena. According to MD, Joan Gamper trophy opponents Como made an official approach for Pena over the weekend. They are interested in having the 26-year-old compete for the number one spot, but given the delays, Sport say they are now considering alternative options. None less than Pena's former competition at Barca Atletic, Arnau Tenas. Another La Masia graduate, he is looking for more regular minutes than at Paris Saint-Germain, who have just signed Lucas Chevalier. The two are already in talks over a move. Pena's arc at Barcelona Pena has had a curious trajectory at Barcelona. Emerging as one of the stars of the academy and a penalty specialist, he enjoyed a strong loan spell at Galatasaray before returning as ter Stegen's back-up. Two seasons ago his spell filling in for the German did not convince, but last year he performed reasonably well, and notably so in El Clasico. However the doubts created the previous year, combined with his reserved character, seem to have contributed to his inability to beat out Szczesny for that role.

Barcelona academy graduate's potential move to Italy hits a roadblock

Barcelona and Como took to the field last night in the Joan Gamper trophy clash and the game ended in a 5-0 win for Hansi Flick's side in what was a landslide result. Notably, however, the connection between the two clubs this summer spans far beyond the mere 90 minutes of football they engaged in last night. Currently building an exciting young team under the tutelage of former Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas, Como have been alert to the situation of all exit-linked Barcelona players. Inaki Pena has thus emerged as a player they retain an interest in. Falling apart While the Serie A side were touted to be a potential destination for Barcelona outcast Inaki Pena, SPORT relays in a recent report that the youngster is now far from the move that was highly speculated. Pena's move to Como likely to fall through. (Photo by) There have already been official contacts between the two clubs, but they stand significantly apart in terms of their terms, and an agreement is unlikely. The player, in fact, has begun studying the other options on his table at this point, and so have Como, who are determined to find a starting goalkeeper at the earliest. In fact, they are now being linked with ex-Barcelona and current PSG star Arnau Tenas. Given the urgency that the Italian side are in and the relatively massive demands from Barcelona, there is little scope for a change in the situation in Pena's case. Moreover, Barcelona do not wish to let him go until Joan Garcia is officially registered. Should the Como option fall apart, Pena will turn to the interest he has received from the likes of Celta Vigo and Sevilla. In such a case, however, it is likely he renews with Barcelona and leaves on loan with an option to buy.

How Galatasaray could hand Barcelona an unexpected transfer boost

La Liga champions Barcelona could be afforded an incoming boost on the financial front by way of Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray. That's according to Sempre Barca, who have revealed fresh interest in Iñaki Peña on Gala's part. Shot-stopper Peña is of course widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out, having continued to tumble down the pecking order between the posts in Hansi Flick's squad following the arrival of Joan García. To date, reports had largely suggested that a contract termination was the most likely outcome between the parties. As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, then Barcelona could yet secure a considerable fee for Peña's services. As per a report from the aforementioned : 'With a deal for (Manchester City star) Ederson becoming increasingly unlikely, sources have informed Sempre Barca that Galatasaray could shift their focus to a familiar face — Barcelona goalkeeper Iñaki Peña.' Peña for his part previously spent time on the books at RAMS Park, during a loan spell back in the 2022/23 campaign. And a reunion could well be on the cards between the parties this summer, amid further claims that Galatasaray are ready to offer up €8-10 million for the 26-year-old. Conor Laird – GSFN

FC Barcelona vs Como – Match preview and team news Team News FC Barcelona Iñaki Peña remains the only officially registered goalkeeper and is set to start between the posts. Wojciech Szczęsny, who signed a new two-year deal until 2027, awaits registration alongside summer signing Joan García from Espanyol. Marc-André ter Stegen underwent back surgery on 29 July and is expected to be sidelined for 3-5 months. The German was briefly stripped of the captaincy over his refusal to share medical data with La Liga. However, he has since been reinstated with the issue solved. Marcus Rashford is expected to feature despite remaining unregistered with La Liga. The England international, on loan from Manchester United, expressed confidence about the registration situation, telling reporters: 'I'm not worried. It's something the club has to sort out, and I trust that they will.' Gerard Martín also awaits first-team registration, along with Roony Bardghji from FC Copenhagen.
