IndiGo's insurance premium likely to rise, in single digits
Mumbai: IndiGo Airlines, country's largest carrier by fleet size and market share, is likely to face a single-digit percentage increase in aviation insurance premiums when its annual cover comes up for renewal this week, people familiar with the matter hike comes amid a hardening global reinsurance market following the recent fatal Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which could result in hull and liability claims exceeding $200 million. The insurance renewal for IndiGo and SpiceJet-whose policies are up for renewal in October-is being closely watched by the industry as reinsurers raise prices in the wake of increasing global aviation in the London market, which underwrite a large portion of Indian aviation risk, are tightening capacity and pushing up rates for both hull and liability covers. IndiGo's policy last year was led by New India Assurance, with co-insurers such as ICICI Lombard participating domestically. A large portion of the risk was ceded to overseas reinsurers, particularly in London, which continue to dominate aviation hull and liability insurance. The carrier's combined hull, spares, and liability cover carries a premium of approximately $13 -15 million, industry sources said. The total insurance value for its 437 aircraft fleet stands at around $20 billion. Each aircraft-primarily Airbus A320 and A321 models-is insured for a hull value between $30 million and $45 million. The fleet includes a few wide-body aircraft recently inducted for international the liability front, narrow-body aircraft typically carry coverage up to $750 million, while wide-body aircraft are covered for up to $1 billion. The current combined single limit (CSL) for liability stands at $1 billion, with maximum hull agreed value (MAV) at $150 million and spares at $300 costs have been rising since late 2023, but the recent Air India crash has led to further tightening, with international reinsurers becoming more cautious on risk appetite.

Kolkata to get three-class low cost airline service to Bangkok in Nov
Kolkata: Kolkata will get a taste of a three-class configuration in a low-cost airline for the first time this Nov when Thai Vietjet Air connects the city to Bangkok. The announcement on Tuesday came days after full-service carrier Etihad launched its four-class configuration flight between Kolkata and Abu Dhabi. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Announcing the launch of the four-times-a-week service from Nov 16, Vietjet Air vice-president (commercial & customer service) Pinyot Pibulsonggram said the airline would offer three configurations: Economy, Deluxe, and Skyboss. "We are a low-cost airline but have three-class service at different fares. The Deluxe service, which has a premium of 5-20% depending on the season of travel, offers priority check-in, free seat selection, 20 kg checked baggage, 7 kg carry-on baggage, and free flight change. The Skyboss service, which comes at a 5-20% premium over the deluxe class, offers 10 kg hand baggage and 30 kg checked baggage, luxurious lounges, dedicated priority check-in, exclusive shuttle service to the aircraft, premium seat selection, and F&B on board," Pibulsonggram explained. Vietjet Air will operate four days a week. While the incoming flight will land in Kolkata before midnight every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, the departing flight will be in the early hours on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Monday. Bookings for the sector will commence on July 17. At present, there are five airlines that operate between Kolkata and Bangkok: IndiGo Airlines, Thai Airways, Bhutan Airlines, Thai AirAsia, and Lion Air. IndiGo also has a daily flight between Kolkata and Phuket. Vietjet Air vice-president (corporate affairs) Sayada Benjakul said the airline would look at increasing the frequency on the Kolkata-Bangkok sector to a daily service once loads pick up and also evaluate opportunities to introduce flights on other sectors, including Phuket.

IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Indore Due To Technical Alert
Indore: An IndiGo flight from Goa with 140 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore on Monday evening following a technical alert related to its landing gear, officials said. All passengers are safe. Airport director Vipinkant Seth stated that IndiGo Airlines flight (6E 813) from Goa received an undercarriage warning, indicating a possible issue with its landing gear. As a precaution, the aircraft remained airborne for approximately 25 minutes before landing. "Due to this warning, the aircraft landed under emergency conditions at the Indore airport. The crew and all passengers are completely safe," he stated. Another official said information was received about an undercarriage warning, prompting declaration of "full emergency" at the airport. Fire and medical teams were deployed as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The aircraft, carrying about 140 passengers, landed safely at 5.15 pm. Its scheduled arrival time was 4.50 pm, the official added. An IndiGo spokesperson stated that flight 6E 813 operating from Goa International Airport (Dabolim) to Indore reported a technical snag just before landing. "The aircraft landed safely in Indore. It will undergo necessary checks, as per mandatory procedures, before resuming operations. We are making all efforts to minimise its impact on any subsequent flights and regret any inconvenience that may be caused to our customers", the spokesperson added. We remain committed to maintaining the highest level of safety for our customers, crew and aircraft, the spokesperson said.

Indore: IndiGo Airlines faced back-to-back technical challenges this week, raising fresh concerns over the operational reliability of its Airbus A321neo fleet. Flight 6E 813 operating from Goa to Indore was forced to make an emergency landing on Monday, after a suspected hydraulic malfunction in its wheel system triggered an undercarriage warning mid-air. The aircraft departed Goa's Dabolim Airport at 3:14 p.m. and was approaching Indore when the pilot alerted Air Traffic Control about the irregular hydraulic response linked to the landing gear. As a precaution, the plane circled Indore's airspace seven to eight times while emergency response units were mobilised on the ground. Fire brigades, medical teams, and airport officials were deployed along the runway, anticipating a potentially hazardous landing. The aircraft touched down safely at 5:08 p.m., with all 140 passengers and crew members reported unharmed. This marks the second such scare within 24 hours for the carrier. On Sunday evening, flight 6E 6591 from Tirupati to Hyderabad encountered a separate technical snag shortly after take-off. According to flight tracking data from FlightRadar24, the plane left Tirupati Airport at 7:42 p.m., but was forced to circle overhead before landing back at 8:34 p.m. That flight, also an A321neo and the last scheduled service from Tirupati to Hyderabad for the day, was cancelled. IndiGo has yet to offer a comprehensive statement regarding either incident. Aviation sources suggest both were precautionary manoeuvres prompted by cockpit alerts, not structural failures. However, the proximity of two mechanical alerts involving the same aircraft model has drawn attention from civil aviation authorities, who are expected to initiate a review of maintenance protocols and alert response strategies. Passengers on both flights have expressed relief over the crew's handling of the situations, while aviation observers await official explanations from the airline and regulators regarding any underlying causes or patterns behind the sudden malfunctions.
