Handloom association told to reapply for land promised 3 years ago
Noida: Despite receiving approval from Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) board in April 2022, the plan to set up a dedicated handloom and handicraft park in Sector 10 along the Yamuna Expressway is yet to materialise. The Handloom Handicraft Exporters Welfare Association (HHEWA), which was promised land to build the park three years ago, has now been asked by YEIDA to submit a fresh proposal and wait for a new decision. In April 2022, HHEWA requested land in YEIDA's industrial sector to set up a Handloom/Handicraft Park. In its 73rd board meeting on April 26, 2022, YEIDA approved a proposal to establish such parks, and similar ones in the future, in its industrial sectors. These parks would follow govt guidelines and pollution control norms, and plots would be allotted through the prevailing land allotment process. HHEWA was informed that applications from both association members and other interested investors would be accepted. It was noted at the time that YEIDA was in the process of acquiring land in Sector 10 and that a formal scheme would be launched once this process was complete. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida According to HHEWA president CP Sharma, while no specific land parcel was announced, they were seeking around 100 acres for the park. Sharma told TOI that currently over 3,500 exporters from UP and other states participate in B2B trade fairs at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. During these fairs, international buyers often request to visit the exporters' factories before finalising orders. Due to logistical challenges and limited time during the fairs, taking buyers to distant factories is often impractical. A dedicated park nearby, Sharma said, would be a big help. However, despite repeated meetings over the past three years, nothing concrete has happened. Meanwhile, YEIDA officials said that the sector was added to the focused industries list in a board meeting last month, which now offers entrepreneurs certain benefits in the land allocation process. The Authority also decided to extend the deadline for submitting applications under ongoing industrial plot schemes to include these new norms. However, this inclusion does not automatically guarantee the separate allocation of land for the dedicated park in the YEIDA region; fresh govt approval is still required. Exporters also highlighted another challenge, the new industrial allotment policy mandating e-auction for industrial plots up to 8,000 sqm. Sharma said most small and medium exporters lack the financial strength to compete in auctions. On Wednesday, HHEWA officials met YEIDA CEO RK Singh and requested direct allotment of industrial plots sized between 500 sqm and 2,000 sqm to exporters in the handloom and handicraft sectors, bypassing the auction process. They proposed this direct allotment be limited to members of HHEWA and the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC), ensuring the plots support genuine exporters. The association also requested that at least 500 plots be directly allotted to its registered producers under the Handloom Park project. HHEWA assured officials its members are ready to begin construction immediately upon allotment. The YEIDA CEO directed the association to meet officials in the state industrial department in Lucknow and to formally resubmit their proposal to YEIDA, referencing the 2022 board decision. Officials added that the final decision now rests with the state govt. Until then, the proposed handloom and handicraft park remains only on paper.
