IMD forecasts heavy rain, thunderstorms across Andhra Pradesh until August 19
The IMD forecast "heavy rainfall and thunderstorms" at isolated places across Andhra Pradesh for the next seven days, until August 19. On August 14, SCAP may receive "heavy to very heavy rainfall", while NCAP, Yanam, and Rayalaseema are likely to experience "heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds." On August 18 and 19, "heavy rainfall is likely" over NCAP and Yanam, with reduced thunderstorm activity. The IMD said a low-pressure area persists over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. An east-west trough runs from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast Arabian Sea across Telangana, north Maharashtra, and south Gujarat between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level. Another trough extends from east Uttar Pradesh to the low-pressure area across Chhattisgarh up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, contributing to the rainfall activity. The upper air cyclonic circulation over north interior Karnataka has become less marked, with weather activity now largely driven by the Bay of Bengal low-pressure system, the department added.

Schools in city to remain closed today
1 2 Ranchi: All govt, govt-aided (including minority), and private schools operating in the district will remain closed on Thursday in view of a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Centre, Jharkhand. The decision to close schools was taken by the district administration and district education officer as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff. The district administration said that any violation of this order will attract strict action under the relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. According to the IMD bulletin on Wednesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across the state till June 21, with the district specifically marked as a 'Red Zone' on June 19 due to the likelihood of extremely heavy downpour. Additionally, in response to the alert, the district administration has outline a detailed action plan for emergency preparedness across departments and communities. The district panchayati raj officer has been directed to circulate information about the red alert and safety guidelines through local leaders and mukhiya groups, particularly in rural areas. School authorities have also been instructed to act swiftly in cases of waterlogging or other infrastructure-related risks within campuses. The administration has instructed Ranchi Municipal Corporation to watch for clogged drains, fallen trees, and water accumulation, and to ensure immediate cleaning and drainage operations. Relief measures should be ready for flood-prone areas. The deputy superintendent of police (traffic) and the district transport officer have been asked to manage traffic in high-risk zones, including areas with damaged roads, stalled vehicles, or potential landslides.

Delhi on IMD's orange alert for heatwave as Bengaluru, Mumbai brace for more rain; check weather forecast here
Weather today: An orange warning is in place in the national capital, Delhi, for 10 June as heatwaves take a toll on the lives of residents of North Indian states. In the financial capital Mumbai, although no weather alert is in place, the regional weather forecasting agency predicts a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The Southwest monsoon is bringing fresh spells of rain to southern states. Bengaluru, the IT hub of India, is on yellow alert as weather predictions indicate a likelihood of heavy rain with a generally cloudy sky. Delhi residents can brace for another hot day amidst an orange alert for a heatwave. The weather conditions will most likely improve after 12 June. Amid IMD's orange alert, the maximum temperature is expected to reach as high as 45 degrees Celsius, around 3-5 notches above normal during this time. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 28-30 degrees Celsius, and the skies are expected to be clear. The maximum and minimum temperature in the city is expected to settle around 33 and 27 degrees Celsius. Over the next five days the minimum temperature is expected to drop two notches while wet spells will continue in the region. IMD's weather report dated 9 June stated, "Light/moderate rainfall at some/isolated places accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph are likely over Marathawada until 15 June. In Madhya Maharashtra, similar conditions are expected to prevail until 14 June. Thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in Marathawada on 13 and 14 June. Bengaluru's India Meteorological Centre in its weather forecast for coastal Karnataka stated, 'Heavy rain/Thundershowers with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts.' The maximum and minimum temperature is expected to hover around 30 and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Intense heatwave grips Rajasthan; temperatures soar to 47.4C in Sri Ganganagar
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], June 8 (ANI): Several districts of Rajasthan witnessed an intense heatwave on Sunday, with the highest temperature of 47.4 degrees Celsius recorded in Sri Ganganagar. According to the India Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, the temperatures recorded across different districts were 47.4C in Sri Ganganagar, 46C in Bikaner, 45.9C in Barmer, 45.6C in Churu, 45.4C in Phalodi, 45.2C in Jaisalmer, and 45C in Kota. A June 8 yellow alert, for heatwave and dust winds, was issued by the IMD for Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jaisalmer and Bikaner. Additionally, the IMD has also issued an orange alert dated June 9 for Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh. A yellow alert has been issued in Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Alwar, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Bharatpur. An orange alert has been issued in Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh for June 10. A yellow alert has been issued in Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karuali, and Dholpur. Earlier on Saturday, an IMD official said that Rajasthan is likely to experience a severe heatwave in the next few days, with temperatures predicted to rise significantly. As per the IMD official, a new round of heat waves will begin in the western parts of Rajasthan. 'During the next week, the weather will remain dry in most parts of the state, while the temperature will increase by two to four degrees Celsius in most places. Especially in the border divisions, some parts of the Bikaner division will record maximum temperatures between 45 and 46 degrees Celsius on 8-9 and 10 June. A new round of heat waves will begin in western Rajasthan and surrounding areas in the next 24 hours. Apart from this, strong, dusty winds will blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in the Bikaner division of western Rajasthan and the adjoining Shekhawati region during the next three to four days,' said Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Department, Jaipur. 'Bikaner is expected to experience strong winds and rising temperatures. Jaipur is currently expecting partly cloudy skies with highs around 38-40 C. However, no rain is expected in Rajasthan for the next 7 days. Strong winds will prevail, potentially leading to thunderstorms. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions,' he added. (ANI)

Barmer hottest in Rajasthan at 43.4 degrees; rain unlikely for days to come
Jaipur, Jun 6 (PTI) Barmer was the hottest district in Rajasthan on Friday at 43.4 degrees Celsius, the weather department said. According to the India Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, the weather is likely to remain mainly dry in most parts of the state for the next 4-5 days.
