Ahead of I-Day, Chinese manjha banned in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: With kite flying gaining popularity ahead of Independence Day celebrations , the district administration on Monday issued a strict advisory banning the use of Chinese manjha and urged citizens, especially two-wheeler riders, to exercise caution and follow safety protocols. Deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar, invoking Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code 2023, ordered a complete prohibition on the storage, sale, purchase, and use of Chinese kite string as well as nylon or synthetic threads within the district. The directive cites the high risk of injuries, accidents, and public disturbance linked to the use of such materials during kite flying. Authorities have appealed to the public to fully comply with the ban and refrain from trading or using any Chinese or synthetic kite strings. The administration also reiterated that the sale, storage, or use of synthetic or metal powder-coated kite strings is a punishable offence. Residents were advised against flying kites near power lines, busy roads, highways, or restricted airspace. They were also cautioned against attempting to retrieve kites caught in power lines due to the risk of fatal electric shocks caused by metallic threads. Prabhat Kumar, a resident of Sector 7, pointed out, "Chinese manjha is easily available in the market. Issuing a ban is good, but authorities must ensure these are removed from shelves as well." UP Police recruitments free from corruption, discrimination, says Yogi Adityanath

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the objective of the grand ceremony for distribution of appointment letters to 60,244 newly recruited police personnel in Lucknow was to ensure that every citizen and family of the state gets the benefit of participation in governance without any discrimination. The event marked the largest induction of civil police officers in the country to date. Before 2017, police recruitment in Uttar Pradesh was marred by nepotism and corruption—jobs were nearly impossible to secure without money or recommendations, the chief minister said, adding that era is over. 'We followed merit and transparency, respecting constitutional reservations,' he said, adding that no discrimination occurred based on caste, religion, class or region. 'The new Uttar Pradesh awards every youth justice through merit,' he said. 'The more you sweat during uniform training, the less blood will be shed in life,' Adityanath declared at the grand police recruitment ceremony held at the Defence Expo Ground. He emphasised that the exemplary performance of the police force during Maha Kumbh earned widespread praise. 'If we can perform there, we can perform anywhere,' he added, highlighting how the police today stood for both law enforcement and social trust. He applauded this recruitment drive as a pioneering step toward realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah's 'Smart Policing' vision, marking it as a historic advancement. While the political nuances of Amit Shah's visit cannot be overlooked as panchayat polls are due in the state early next year, the event is also significant as it shows the government's commitment to creating job opportunities for youngsters. Yogi Adityanath highlighted the state's record of creating over 850,000 government jobs in eight years, including approximately 125,000 police recruitments. He stated that these efforts not only boost numbers but also reflect the government's dedication to maintaining peace, security, and investment in the state. 'The double-engine government has set a benchmark for clean and transparent recruitment processes,' he said, noting that even youths from the poorest families now serve as police personnel. Smart policing He expressed gratitude to Shah for helping with paramilitary and military training resources when recruitment began in 2017. As a result, the state now has the capacity to train over 60,000 police officers locally. He also emphasised forensic upgrades: eight new forensic laboratories are already operational, with six more under construction. Each of the 75 districts now has two mobile forensic vans. Additionally, cyber units have been established in all 75 districts, and cyber help desks in 1,994 police stations—aligning with new criminal laws effective July 2024 (Indian Justice Code 2023, Civil Security Code 2023, and Evidence Act 2023). Yogi's advice Chief minister Yogi Adityanath urged the new recruits to be friendly, sensitive, and solution-oriented, offering his congratulations to them and their families. He expressed confidence that they would serve the state excellently. Sunday's dawn brought new hope and fulfilment to more than 60,244 youths as they received their appointment letters at the grand 'Rozgaar Ke Mahakumbh,' he emphasised. Candidates expressed gratitude to the state government for ensuring excellent arrangements even in challenging weather conditions. Each candidate was seated in the block designated for their division alongside officials from their respective districts, where they were ceremoniously handed their appointment letters. Earlier, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak addressed the gathering while director general of police (DGP), Rajeev Krishna delivered the welcome speech at the start of the event. New recruits greet CM As CM Yogi was invited to the stage, the 60,244 recruits stood and greeted him with their appointment letters, offering a monumental ovation. Yogi Adityanath congratulated the successful candidates and their families, urging the new officers to commit to public service. Prohibitory Order Imposed In Indore Till July 4

Indore: In a bid to uphold peace and public order within Indore, Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh has enacted "prohibitory order" under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Code 2023. Any violation of this directive will result in punitive action under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code 2023. The order will remain in effect until July 4, 2025, the order posted in X account of the District Collector said. As per the provisions outlined, no individual or group within the urban limits of Indore may host any event that could incite hostility between communities. Any form of provocative speech or dissemination of misinformation -- whether in person or through social media -- that targets religious sentiments or threatens communal harmony is strictly prohibited, the order said. The order also forbids the stockpiling of materials such as bricks, stones, soda bottles, glass containers, flammable substances, or explosives in open spaces or on rooftops -- objects that could be used in acts of violence or intimidation. Additionally, improper publications that could stir communal discord are prohibited, the order noted. No person shall verbally or digitally spread false information or rumours that may disrupt the peace, it said. The use of religious symbols or language on social media in a manner that could incite animosity is deemed a punishable offence, it added. Social media group administrators are held accountable for ensuring their platforms remain free of inflammatory content. If any such content is posted, it must be promptly removed, the responsible party expelled, and local authorities notified. Regulations for cybercafes have also been tightened. Operators must verify the identities of all visitors through valid documentation, including identity cards, voter ID cards, ration cards, driving licenses, or PAN cards. No cybercafe may function without a maintained registry recording each visitor's details. Additionally, cafes must install web cameras to document users' photographs, keeping these records securely stored for a minimum of six months. These measures aim to safeguard public safety, prevent communal unrest, and reinforce accountability in both physical and digital spaces, ensuring Indore remains a secure and harmonious city, the order said.

The girl's family filed a complaint under the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 Efforts to eliminate the practice of dowry in India have been ongoing for many years, with increasing awareness campaigns highlighting that dowry is both unethical and illegal. Despite these efforts, the exchange of dowry continues, often driven by societal pressures or a desire to impress others. Shocking Incident In Jabalpur A disturbing incident has come to light from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where a government school teacher demanded dowry from his fiancée's family shortly after their engagement. The incident, which occurred in Jabalpur's Sanskardhani area, has sparked public outrage. After exchanging engagement rings, the teacher demanded Rs 11 lakh in cash and a car from his father-in-law. When these demands were not met, he ended the engagement just five days before the wedding. The girl's family, who attempted to reconcile, were reportedly thrown out of his home. In response, the girl's family has filed a complaint with the police. Details Of The Engagement The engagement, held in Trimurti Nagar, Gohalpur, on April 27, was initially a joyous occasion. The girl's family had gifted jewellery and offered Rs 2 lakh in cash. The wedding was set for May 6. Unable to meet these extravagant demands, the girl's family found themselves facing the abrupt cancellation of the wedding just days before the planned ceremony. Following the cancellation, the girl's family approached the police, explaining that significant financial resources had already been invested in wedding preparations. They accused the boy's family of extortion under the guise of dowry, resulting in the marriage being called off when their demands were unmet.
