Over 40 staff without helmet denied entry at collectorate
Indore: At least 40 employees were denied entry to collectorate on Monday for arriving on two-wheelers without wearing helmets. "Forty employees, who arrived using two-wheelers without wearing helmets, were denied entry on Monday," ADM Roshan Rai said adding that the rule has also been implemented for visitors. Following the implementation of No Helmet, No Petrol order, a positive shift is being observed in Indore's traffic culture. The ADM said govt officials and employees across the district have started wearing helmets to their workplaces, recognising the importance of road safety. In a unique initiative to encourage this change, Indore Development Authority (IDA) on Monday welcomed its employees and other two-wheeler riders who arrived wearing helmets with rose buds. This gesture is part of a broader effort to promote traffic discipline and adherence to road safety norms. Earlier, collector Asheesh Singh had issued a directive to all department heads, making it mandatory for every govt employee and official to wear a helmet while commuting on a two-wheeler. This order is in line with Section 129 of the Madhya Pradesh Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which clearly states that both the rider and pillion passenger must wear an ISI-marked helmet. The administration emphasises that helmets are crucial for preventing serious head injuries and untimely deaths in road accidents. Indore Sikh Youth Association president Sachpreet Singh appealed the collector to exempt Sikh community people from wearing helmet since they wear turbans. Also, Indore shahar qazi Isharat Ali said that helmet rule should be made compulsory for riders on the Bypass and Ring Road. He mentioned that on city roads, the average speed of commuters could be 15-20 kmph and the helmet rule shouldn't apply to them.

Road cave-in linked to unauthorised work; FIR registered
Indore: A probe into the sudden cave in of a portion of a road near Meghdoot Garden revealed that a contractor firm allegedly damaged a treated water pipeline while laying optical fibre cables without official permission, leading to the formation of a large sinkhole. Following the incident reported on Friday afternoon, IMC additional commissioner Rohit Sisoniya and Superintending Engineer DR Lodhi were dispatched to the site to investigate. Their findings indicated that Jagdish Sharma, the proprietor of Stellat Private Limited, negligently damaged the treated water pipeline during the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) work for the fibre optic cables, which was conducted without due municipal authorisation. The investigation team confirmed that the leakage from the damaged pipeline caused soil erosion and subsidence, rapidly expanding the hole. IMC commissioner Shivam Verma directed strict action against the responsible firm. Consequently, three bundles of optical fibre cable and other equipment, valued at approximately Rs 60,000, were seized from the site. A notice demanding Rs 3 lakh was also issued to the contractor company for recovery of damages. Besides, an FIR was lodged at Vijay Nagar police station against Sharma and his associate Tarun Mourya for the damage under relevant sections of the law. IMC has been clarified that questions currently being raised about the quality of the road and the present work are unfounded and misleading. The affected road was originally constructed by the Indore Development Authority approximately 20-25 years ago. No recent repair or drainage line installation work was undertaken on this specific stretch. The primary cause of the sinkhole is attributed solely to the soil erosion and subsidence resulting from the damage to the pipeline during unauthorised work.
