Rs 510 crore riverfront project gets IDA approval

Time of India23-07-2025
Indore: Indore Development Authority (IDA) board of directors on Wednesday decided to forward a proposal to the state govt for Rs 510 crore under the 'Urban Challenge Fund' for development of the Kanh and Saraswati riverfronts, as per the detailed project report (DPR).
Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has already identified more than 3,000 structures, mostly residential, falling within 30 metres HFL (highest flood level) of both the rivers. The plan is to remove these structures, as per NGT instructions, to develop the riverfront. The affected families will be accommodated in flats constructed under PMAY.
The Board also granted in-principle consent for construction of a sports complex near Dussehra maidan on Annapurna Road, utilising deposit funds.
The IDA board of directors, under the chairmanship of Indore divisional commissioner and chairman Deepak Singh, convened on Wednesday to approve a series of significant urban development projects for the city.
In the meeting, the Board decided to construct an Open Door Sports Complex next to the swimming pool in Scheme No 94, Ring Road, at a cost of Rs three crore. This project will involve appointment of a national-level coach for its operation.

A consultant from the authority's pre-selected list will be chosen to design this project. Approval was also given to the construction of a commercial complex on plot 15 of Scheme No 151, 169-B Super Corridor Sector D, under the PPP mode, at an estimated cost of Rs 87 crore.

India's textile exports face uncertainty as companies shift production to Vietnam, Indonesia, and Africa

While uncertainty looms over India's Rs 87,000-crore annual textile exports to the US, a handful of companies with manufacturing facilities overseas plan to shift production for American customers out of India. Pearl Global Industries, a listed firm, has said production for the US market will be reassigned to more favourable hubs. 'We are seeing positive momentum from US customers for our Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Guatemala operations,' Pearl Global said during its quarterly results announcement. Another large textile exporter plans to move its US orders to Africa. 'We have a facility in Africa, where we will try to shift our US orders,' said CEO of one of the top 10 garment and textile exporters, requesting anonymity.'We are seeing healthy growth in Indonesia and Vietnam, following the early resolution of tariff structures in these markets. Now that the US has declared final reciprocal tariffs on all major garment manufacturing countries at 19-20%, we are seeing positive momentum from US customers for our Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Guatemala facilities,' said Pallab Banerjee, managing director, Pearl Global, during the earnings call. Pearl Global has manufacturing bases in India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia and Guatemala. It exports fashion garments — including knits, wovens, denim, outerwear, activewear and athleisure — to global brands such as Chicos, Kohl's, Old Navy, Poligono, Primark, PVH, Ralph Lauren, Stylem and Target.'With a 50% tariff imposed on India, Pearl Global is recalibrating its business strategy to adapt to evolving trade dynamics. While production for the US market will be reassigned to more favourable hubs, India will continue to grow by tapping new and advantageous partnerships, such as the UK FTA, and focusing on other existing FTA markets like Japan and Australia until the US tariff issue is resolved,' Banerjee said. The company said US revenue from its India operations in FY25 stands at 16-18% of group revenue, while bottom line from the US business accounts for 4-5% of overall group profit. 'We believe such recalibrations should help retain customer wallet share and maintain profitability,' he said. The company will also proceed with its capital expenditure plan in Bangladesh.

Advanced aerial survey for SLBC tunnelling works in T

Hyderabad: To resume the stalled Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnelling works, the Telangana govt will deploy helicopter-mounted VTEM Plus magnetic geophysical survey technology — a first-of-its-kind use in India. National Geophysical Research Institute has been entrusted with the task of investigating, designing, and executing tunnel I and II of the SLBC project, with 2.36 crore sanctioned for the study. Work on the project halted in Feb after a roof collapse in the SLBC tunnel claimed eight lives. Only two bodies were recovered, while six workers remain untraced. Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the govt was giving top priority to resuming the works. "This magnetic geophysical survey will map geophysical conditions up to one kilometre below ground, helping us identify fault lines and structural challenges. Helicopter surveys are the only practical option given the difficult terrain," he said during a review meeting with irrigation officials on Friday. The minister stressed that the project will be completed within the cost approved by the cabinet, with no compromise on quality or speed. Uttam noted that an expert committee was set up after the accident, and its recommendations form the basis for resuming work. The incomplete 9-km tunnel stretch is preventing gravity-based water draw from the Srisailam reservoir, forcing the state to spend nearly 750 crore annually on electricity for water lifting — affecting tribal and fluoride-hit areas. Officials briefed the minister on an IIT-Kharagpur study regarding backwater effects in Chhattisgarh caused by the Polavaram Irrigation Project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana's Sammakka Sagar Project (Tupakulagudem Barrage) on the Godavari river in Mulugu district. The barrage is crucial for improving irrigation, water security, and agricultural sustainability, especially in semi-arid and tribal regions. Uttam said Telangana would work with the Chhattisgarh govt to obtain the necessary NOCs for the project. Singur safety measures He said an expert team has been sent to assess the Singur dam and recommend urgent safety measures. He ordered sandbag placement and reinforcements where needed, especially during the active monsoon. He instructed officials to closely monitor all dams, reservoirs, barrages, and major water bodies, warning against negligence. "There should be complete clarity on threat perception, and no procedural or technical delay in implementing preventive measures will be tolerated," he said.
