Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad cyber police on Wednesday registered a case of cheating against four employees of an IT company in Hinjewadi for stealing the firm's confidential data and causing it a loss of Rs 82 crore. The fraud occurred between April 2024 and Aug this year. An official from the IT firm lodged a complaint with the Pimpri Chinchwad cyber police on Wednesday. Assistant inspector Pravin Swami of the cyber police told TOI that the complainant stated that the four employees, including a woman, stole the company's source codes and software solutions and formed a new firm. "By using the codes and software solutions, these employees developed over 100 websites and generated revenue illegally," Swami said. A case was registered under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information and Technology Act. Ludhiana: The police have booked a man for blackmailing and raping a woman for about four years. It is alleged that the accused took lewd videos of the woman after intoxicating her and later blackmailed her by threatening to circulate them on social media. The 24-year-old complainant said she met the accused four years ago, who lives in their locality, and befriended him. She alleged that the accused called her to meet him in a room, where he offered her a cold drink laced with sedatives. After she lost consciousness, the accused raped her and recorded lewd videos of her. The woman further alleged that later the accused started blackmailing her and forced her to establish physical relations. When she objected, the accused threatened to make her videos viral on social networking sites. Lately, the woman shared her ordeal with her family and later lodged a complaint with the police against the accused on July 15. Inspector Rajinderpal Singh, the investigating officer in the case, stated that an FIR under sections 376 (rape) of the IPC and section 67(A) of the Information and Technology Act had been lodged against the accused. The division number 2 police have booked a Janakpuri resident for allegedly blackmailing and raping a woman for at least four years. The woman stated the accused claimed to be in possession of lewd videos of her and threatened to circulate it on social networking sites. The complainant, who is also a resident of the same locality, alleged that in the past four years, the accused harassed her mentally and physically. When she asked him for marriage, the accused started threatening her. According to the complainant, she met the accused four years ago and befriended him. She alleged that the accused called her to meet in a room where the accused allegedly offered her cold drink laced with the sedatives. After she lost her consciousness, the accused raped her and recorded lewd videos of her, she mentioned in her complaint. The victim alleged that later the accused started blackmailing her. The accused used to establish physical relations with her forcefully. When she objected to it, the accused threatened her to make her videos viral on social networking sites. Further, she added that she gathered some courage and narrated her ordeal to her parents. Later, she filed a complaint to the police. Inspector Rajinderpal Singh, who is investigating the case, stated that an FIR under Sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67(A) of the Information and Technology Act has been registered against the accused. A hunt is on for the his arrest, the police said, adding that the complaint was received on July 15 and the FIR was registered after a thorough investigation.

KENDRAPARA/BHUBANESWAR: Kendrapara police on Sunday arrested the alleged boyfriend of the 20-year-old college student whose charred body was recovered from her house in a village under Pattamundai Rural police limits five days back. Twenty-five-year-old Pramod Behera, of Terohi village, was charged with abetment of suicide, as he had threatened to blackmail the girl by sharing her intimate photographs and videos with many persons, including her father. Initially, police had registered a case of unnatural death in this regard. On Saturday, the father of the victim lodged an FIR at the Pattamundai Rural police station, alleging his daughter set herself ablaze as the accused threatened to blackmail her. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation. During the probe, police recovered more than 50 objectionable videos of the girl from Pramod's mobile phone. The accused had reportedly made those videos viral and sent them to the girl's father and four to five other villagers on July 17. 'The accused had called the girl over the phone at about 7.30 am on Wednesday, minutes before the incident,' Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria told TNIE. Examination of Pramod's call records indicated that he had been in contact with the girl for over the last year. He has been booked under sections 296 (obscene acts), 75 (sexual harassment), 78 (stalking) and 108 (abetment of suicide) under BNS and sections 66(E), 67, 67(A) of Information and Technology Act, said Kataria. The victim was a Plus III final-year student with political science as her major. She had also appeared in the semester examination on Tuesday, a day before she ended her life.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 40-year-old woman(40) from Jinsi Tower, Khas Gate in the city fell prey to a cyber con and lost her life's savings of Rs35lakh in just over a fortnight. Jinsi police inspector Shivaji Budhwant said an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Information and Technology Act. Police said the woman was duped after she clicked on an online advertisement that claimed to offer expert guidance in equity trading. The woman, in her complaint, said she was lured into joining a WhatsApp group after responding to the advertisement on July 4. She was then asked to download a mobile application. At first, she would invest in small amounts. When fake visuals showed initial profits, she transferred Rs5 lakh, Rs8 lakh and Rs14 lakh in separate installments. On trying to withdraw her earnings she was asked to pay a 15% service fee and then a 20% brokerage charge, both of which she paid without receiving any returns. Then she filed a complaint and approached the police.
