North Carolina could bring back iconic uniform for 2025 football season

Will the Tar Heels bring back an iconic uniform? The excitment around the North Carolina Tar Heels' football program is at an all-time high as they get ready to usher in a new era under Bill Belichick. As the legendary head coach begins his first season with the program, many are hoping he can turn things around. There will be a lot of attention on the program nationally as well. Belichick is obviously a big name in the business and landing a head coach like him was huge for the program. It also opened up the door for new opportunities in terms of revenue and fun ideas for the program. That includes the return of a classic uniform possibly this season. Per Taylor Vippolis of Inside Carolina, the Tar Heels have placed an order for the 1980's throwback uniform, hoping to wear them this year. The Tar Heels brought back the navy uniforms a few years back which ended up being a hit. This classic uniform is a fan favorite, donned by Lawrence Taylor among other Tar Heel legends. Bringing it back would be a HUGE hit with the fanbase and with Belichick's ties to Taylor, it makes a lot of sense. There's no word on if these were approved or what games they would wear them for but I can't see why they would say no. Let's hope we get to see these at some point this season. Report suggests UNC leaning one way for new basketball arena

The North Carolina Tar Heels are navigating through another tough season, being on the bubble just a month away from Selection Sunday. As the future of the program continues to be in focus, so does developments for a new arena. Over the past year, there have been talks of either renovating the Dean Dome or building a new arena potentially off campus. And on Thursday, Inside Carolina broke the news of the way the university is leaning. Per Greg Barnes of Inside Carolina, UNC is eyeing the North campus for a new basketball arena. This is a significant development in the process with all signs pointing to a new arena being built for the future: University leadership is leaning toward building a new North Carolina men's basketball arena complex at the off-campus Carolina North location to replace the Dean E. Smith Center after months of consideration, according to multiple sources familiar with the process. The Carolina North site is located at the northwest corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Estes Drive in Chapel Hill, where Horace Williams Airport was located until closing in May 2018. When the process began with the working group from UNC, there were six site options revealed for a new arena including renovating the Smith Center or replacing it in the same location. The north campus was also one of the sites which is now where they are reportedly leaning per the report. The idea is that each of the six options would provide a 16,000-seat maximum capacity. The Smith Center opened in 1986 with UNC playing 40 seasons in the arena. More details on the situation will follow. UNC football program lands first offensive lineman commitment in Class of 2026

UNC football program lands first offensive lineman commitment in Class of 2026 BREAKING: Md. offensive lineman Zion Smith has joined UNC's 2026 recruiting class. Story: — InsideCarolina (@InsideCarolina) February 10, 2025 As we get deeper into the offseason, the North Carolina Tar Heels continue adding recruits to their future football roster. UNC already has most of its 2025 recruiting class locked in, headlined by 4-star quarterback Bryce Baker, plus a few commitments in the Class of 2026. On Monday, February 10, North Carolina landed another commitment in the form of offensive lineman Zion Smith. Hailing from the famous DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, Smith is the Tar Heels' first offensive line commit in the 2026 class. Smith, currently ranked as a 3-star recruit, joins five other commits in athlete Jaden Jefferson, cornerbacks Marcellous Ryan and Justin Lewis, quarterback Zaid Lott and running back Crew Davis. "I really like the Tar Heels, actually," Smith recently told Inside Carolina. "I got a really good sense of what they do [and] what they are. I really like Coach (Bill) Belichick. I like all the guys -- Coach [Freddie] Kitchens, Coach [Will] Friend, [Bob] Diaco. It's a great coaching staff." There's no telling who Smith will protect at quarterback when he arrives on campus, but I'm willing to bet it's Baker or Lott. UNC could also easily add more quarterback recruits, transfer portal veterans or start a walk-on. North Carolina certainly isn't done yet adding Class of 2026 recruits. If the Tar Heels enjoy the type of season they're expected to in Year One under Belichick, expect four and 5-stars to have Chapel Hill on their college football radar. When Smith officially puts on his UNC uniform for the first time, can he stay healthy? North Carolina shuffled its 2024 offensive line plenty, part of the reason behind another disappointing finish. Where does freshman Ian Jackson's focus lie ahead of the Duke rivalry?

Where does freshman Ian Jackson's focus lie ahead of the Duke rivalry? As North Carolina approaches one of their biggest games of the season freshman Ian Jackson and Drake Powell are mentally preparing for their first game inside of Cameron Indoor Stadium, the home of UNC's archrival, Duke. Ian Jackson had this to say as he stared down this matchup with his team's historic rival, via Inside Carolina. I would say, for me, just focus on us. There's going to be a lot of other things going on, the crowd and the history that these two schools have. But just go in there and focus on us and what we can do to win the game. Jackson is still averaging the second-most points on the team at 14.7 points per game, but his recent shooting slump heading into this game against Duke is undeniable. After reaching 20+ points in six out of seven straight games, he has since failed to tally double-figures even in four of the team's last five games. He had six points against Stanford in the 72-71 loss; he had seven points on 3-of-11 shooting in the Wake Forest loss; and he had nine points on 4-of-10 shooting in the Pitt loss. However, Jackson doesn't seem like his recent slump is affecting him in a quote captured after Thursday's practice from Inside Carolina. It's just that kind of stretch. It's basketball, it happens. The same way I've been scoring 20, the same way it can go bad a little bit. But I'm all right. I'm fine. My confidence is still super high. My teammates trust me, I trust them. I'm going to go out there and believe and play my game. I believe in the work I put in, and I think I'm the best player on the floor every time I step on the floor. As Jackson gears up for this game, the entire Tar Heels fan base waits in suspense as this could be a "make it" game for the team and the season if they are able to pull off a miraculous upset against one of the country's best here tonight.
