May 21, 2025 The UAE has been elected to the Executive Board of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), a global body representing more than 180 countries and supporting the UN Convention against Corruption. The decision was made during IAACA's first council meeting of 2025. The UAE Accountability Authority, which will now play a direct role in shaping international anti-corruption strategies, stated that the board membership will allow the country to promote transparency, exchange expertise, and contribute to global efforts to strengthen institutional integrity. This appointment follows a series of recent international recognitions. In September 2024, the UAE was elected to both the Steering Committee of the GlobE Network—an initiative under the UN Office on Drugs and Crime—and the Executive Board of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), highlighting its growing role in global governance and audit networks. IAACA serves as a platform for facilitating collaboration among anti-corruption authorities worldwide, offering a framework for implementing preventive policies, information sharing, and capacity building.

Saudi Arabia Underscores Centrality of Palestinian Cause
The Saudi government underscored on Tuesday the centrality of the Palestinian cause, reiterating its firm rejection of extremist Israeli statements on the displacement of the Palestinian people. Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired the cabinet meeting that was held in Riyadh. The ministers stressed that lasting peace in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict can only be achieved through the acceptance of peaceful coexistence based on a two-state solution. Crown Prince Mohammed briefed the ministers on the telephone calls he held with Jordan's King Abdullah II and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary said the cabinet reviewed updates on the work of several joint committees between Saudi Arabia and other countries. It highlighted key initiatives to strengthen cooperation and friendship, expand relations and achieve mutual interests and benefits across various fields. The cabinet also reviewed the Kingdom's leading role in multilateral organizations and their affiliated bodies, highlighting Saudi Arabia's election as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA). The election is a testament to the international community's recognition of the Kingdom's efforts and global standing, it remarked. On the domestic level, the cabinet discussed the Kingdom's comprehensive developmental momentum to empower promising and emerging sectors. It welcomed the launch of the King Salman Automotive Cluster, which is expected to support economic diversification efforts, enhance non-oil GDP, and advance the goals of the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program. The cabinet praised the completion of the Fiscal Sustainability Program's executive plan and its contributions to boosting spending efficiency, increasing revenues, and strengthening planning capabilities. The program also prepares public finances for structural changes and economic reforms linked to Saudi Vision 2030, reinforcing the Kingdom's financial position and economic resilience. The cabinet praised the Kingdom's top ranking among G20 countries in the Security Index, deeming it a reflection of its leading position in security, prosperity and stability.

RIYADH: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman chaired the weekly Cabinet session in Riyadh on Tuesday, where key regional and international issues were discussed and agreements aimed at enhancing the Kingdom's global partnerships were approved, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The crown prince briefed the Cabinet on his recent phone calls with Jordan's King Abdullah II and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. The Cabinet strongly rejected Israeli statements advocating the displacement of Palestinians, reaffirming Saudi Arabia's commitment to the Palestinian cause. The ministers said that lasting peace could be achieved only through the two-state solution and peaceful coexistence. The session highlighted the Kingdom's growing influence in multilateral organizations, particularly its recent election to the Executive Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities. The achievement reflects global recognition of Saudi Arabia's efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency. In the field of security cooperation, ministers signed a deal with Jordan to combat narcotics trafficking, while on the diplomatic front, a mutual visa exemption deal was finalized with the Solomon Islands for holders of diplomatic, special and official passports. Economic and trade relations were also discussed, with the Cabinet authorizing negotiations for a political consultations memorandum with Armenia and approving a commercial cooperation agreement with the Maldives. A new partnership was also established with Oman in the field of economy and planning, while a separate memorandum of understanding was signed with Qatar to enhance financial cooperation. The government also approved an agreement with Serbia to avoid double taxation and prevent tax evasion. In the cultural and scientific fields, a memorandum of understanding was signed with Morocco's Hassan II Mosque Foundation to promote traditional arts, while another was agreed with the UK's Meteorological Office for cooperation in meteorology. Transport and infrastructure initiatives were also on the agenda, with the approval of an agreement with Egypt to enhance maritime connectivity and passenger transport in the Gulf of Aqaba. In the financial sector, the Cabinet endorsed a new partnership to enhance cooperation between the Saudi Central Bank and the Central Bank of Turkiye. The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Public Prosecution Law and the Board of Grievances Law, adding experienced professionals to their respective councils. Additionally, key promotions were confirmed, including the appointment of Abdul-Moneim bin Abdul-Rahman bin Saleh Al-Mahmoud as an ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
