Union Coal Minister inaugurates Neyveli Book Fair
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated the 24th Neyveli Book Fair, organised by NLC India Limited in virtual mode on Friday. The fair is on till July 14. Inaugurating the event on the sidelines of the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining in Hyderabad, Mr. Reddy commended NLCIL for its exceptional contribution to society — particularly in supplying water to support agriculture in the surrounding regions and in meeting a significant portion of Chennai city's drinking water requirements. 'This is how a public sector enterprise serves national development goals while being a catalyst for regional upliftment,' he said. The fair features 190 stalls put up by leading publishers and booksellers from across India. NLCIL has also announced free entry for school and college students throughout the event. Earlier, a short video showcasing the highlights and the community impact of the Neyveli Book Fair was played at the inauguration. Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey and NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli were present.

New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Friday released the Aluminium Vision Document at the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices, organised by the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress in Hyderabad. Addressing the gathering, Reddy said the Aluminium Vision Document reflects the Government's commitment to building a self-reliant and resource-secure India. He highlighted the aluminium sector's strategic role in enabling clean energy systems, electric mobility, and modern infrastructure. The document has been prepared through extensive consultations with industry stakeholders, including National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO), Hindalco Industries Ltd., Vedanta Ltd., Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) and leading associations such as the Aluminium Association of India (AAI), Aluminium Secondary Manufacturers Association (ASMA) and the Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI). According to a release by the Ministry of Mines, the document outlines a strategic roadmap to scale up aluminium production sixfold by 2047. It aims to expand bauxite production capacity to 150 MTPA, double the national aluminium recycling rate, promote the adoption of low-carbon technologies and strengthen raw material security through targeted policy reforms and institutional mechanisms. The Aluminium Vision Document aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and sets the foundation for a globally competitive and environmentally responsible aluminium industry. In a post on social media platform X, the Ministry of Mines added, 'The document outlines a bold roadmap to scale aluminium output sixfold, raise bauxite capacity to 150 MTPA, boost recycling, and promote green technologies -- aligned with PM @narendramodi ji's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.' India is the 2nd largest Aluminium producer, and a top-10 producer in refined copper. Continued growth in aluminium and copper points toward continued strong economic activity in user sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive and machinery. In the non-ferrous metal sector, primary aluminium production in FY 2025-26 posted a growth of 1.5 per cent over the corresponding period last year, increasing to 3.47 lakh ton (LT) in FY 2025-26 (April) from 3.42 LT in FY 2024-25 (April). During the same comparative period, refined copper production has grown by 15.6 per cent from 0.45 LT to 0.52 LT. (ANI)

Speaking at the event, Reddy said, 'The Aluminium Vision Document reflects the Government's unwavering commitment to building a self-reliant and resource-secure India. Aluminium, as a strategic metal, will play a vital role in the transition to clean energy systems, electric mobility, and sustainable infrastructure development.' Prepared through wide-ranging consultations with key stakeholders from across the aluminium value chain, the document includes inputs from National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO), Hindalco Industries Ltd. , Vedanta Ltd., Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) and prominent industry associations such as the Aluminium Association of India (AAI), Aluminium Secondary Manufacturers Association (ASMA), and the Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI). It was organised by the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress. The Copper Vision Document anticipates a six-fold increase in demand by 2047. It sets a target of adding 5 million tonnes per annum of smelting and refining capacity by 2030, the Ministry of Mines said in a statement. Copper has been notified as a critical mineral in India. It also aims to reduce dependence on open-market imports by acquiring overseas mineral assets through global partnerships, scaling up secondary refining, and enhancing domestic recycling. The target is to double the national aluminium recycling rate, promote the adoption of low-carbon technologies, and strengthen raw material security through targeted policy reforms and institutional mechanisms. India's non-ferrous metal sector witnessed significant growth in FY25, with both refined copper and primary aluminium production recording notable increases. Refined copper production rose by 12.6 per cent, climbing from 5.09 lakh tonnes (LT) in FY24 to 5.73 LT in FY25, according to government data. Meanwhile, primary aluminium production touched a new record, increasing from 41.6 LT in the previous fiscal to 42 LT. Reddy emphasised copper's vital contribution to India's energy transition, infrastructure growth, and green technologies such as electric vehicles and solar power, the statement said. He highlighted the aluminium sector's strategic role in enabling clean energy systems, electric mobility, and modern infrastructure. The vision documents were developed through consultations with public and private sector players, including Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL), Hindalco Industries Ltd, Vedanta Ltd, along with industry associations such as the Indian Primary Copper Producers Association (IPCPA), International Copper Association (ICA), and Aluminium Association of India (AAI).
