Tata Power-DDL, Japan collab to provide stable electricity in city
New Delhi: Tata Power-Delhi Distribution Ltd, in collaboration with Japan-based Nissin Electric Co Ltd, has commissioned India's first micro substation with a power voltage transformer (PVT) to provide a low-cost and reliable power supply to consumers in Delhi. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The project is part of the International Demonstration Project on Japan's Energy Efficiency Technologies, publicly solicited by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO). A senior discom official said the introduction of the micro substation with PVT technology is aimed at providing reliable and stable power to remote areas across India that are far from the power grid or lack a fully developed grid but have power transmission lines nearby. "Instead of constructing a large network that requires a substantial budget and large installation space, it can convert high-voltage power directly from transmission lines to low-voltage power, suitable for residential consumers. " The official said this technology would also help in peak load management and lead to low operational costs, as refuelling and frequent maintenance of a generator are not required. Tata Power-DDL, a leading power utility, serves around 9 million consumers in North Delhi. tnn

Noel Tata's BIG move, enters in partnership with…, to install India's first…, challenge for Anil Ambani's Reliance Power, Adani Power
Tata Power-DDL, in collaboration with Japan-based Nissin Electric Co Ltd, has commissioned India's first micro substation with power voltage transformer (PVT) that will provide low-cost and reliable power supply to consumers. According to a statement, the PVT technology enables direct conversion of high-voltage power from transmission lines into low-voltage power suitable for residential use. Tata Power-DDL, a leading power utility serves around 9 million consumers in North Delhi. The project is a part of International Demonstration Project on Japan's Energy Efficiency Technologies, publicly solicited by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). To commence this project, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power -DDL) and Nissin Electric signed a project agreement on August 21, 2024. The introduction of micro substation with PVT technology is primarily aimed at low cost and reliable power supply to remote load centers with challenging terrains. It will also be helpful in urban landscapes where there are challenges for network extension to meet the growing load. Tata Power's competitors in the energy sector are power generation companies like Adani Power, Torrent Power and Anil Ambani's Reliance Power. This collaboration will help the Tata in direct conversion of high-voltage power from transmission lines and can be a challenge for Anil Ambani's Reliance Power and Gautam Adani's Adani Power. Tata Power-DDL, Nissin Electric commission micro substation under Japan's NEDO project
New Delhi: Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited ( Tata Power-DDL ), which serves approximately 9 million consumers in North Delhi, has commissioned a micro substation project in collaboration with Japan-based Nissin Electric Co. Ltd., under a demonstration programme supported by Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The initiative is part of the International Demonstration Project on Japan's Energy Efficiency Technologies. A Project Agreement between Tata Power-DDL and Nissin Electric was signed on August 21, 2024. Prior to that, NEDO signed a Letter of Intent with Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC), a non-banking financial institution under the Ministry of Power, on January 10, 2024. The micro substation is aimed at supplying power to areas where transmission infrastructure exists but the grid is either underdeveloped or absent. The technology uses Pole-mounted Voltage Transformer (PVT) to directly convert high-voltage power from transmission lines to low-voltage power, without the need for a conventional large-scale substation. According to Tata Power-DDL, the micro substation project is designed to meet the requirements of regions with challenging terrains or space constraints. The equipment allows for stable and cost-effective electricity supply to load centres in rural as well as urban areas where grid extension is not viable. Tata Power-DDL stated that the technology enables efficient peak load management during the summer season and reduces the need for diesel-based mini grids in remote areas, thereby offering a lower environmental burden. The system also reduces operational costs, as it does not require generator refuelling or frequent maintenance. The micro substation was officially handed over to Tata Power-DDL and will be monitored for performance metrics such as power reliability, quality, and operational effectiveness. Discussions have begun with power distribution companies in Odisha for further deployment. Site visits and detailed action plans are being prepared as part of the next phase of implementation. The companies aim to replicate the solution in other parts of India, particularly in locations where Tata Power has operational presence outside Delhi.
