Landon, Sidwell Friends claim tennis titles; Sherwood lacrosse wins county
As the Interstate Athletic Conference tennis championships unfolded Thursday afternoon at St. Albans, a healthy crowd of players and spectators surrounded the top doubles court. With St. Albans and Landon locked in a tight contest, the collective presumption was that, in the event of a 3-3 draw, the championship would be decided by the match furthest from completion.

Georgetown Prep rolls to seventh straight IAC golf title
The Interstate Athletic Conference golf championship at P.B. Dye in Ijamsville, Maryland, was a shotgun start, which meant the scores arrived in a steady afternoon stream after a round on the famed architect's tricky greens and tough lies. But when the score for Georgetown Prep junior Liam Chalfant was posted, the matter was all but settled. Playing out of the No. 4 spot for the Little Hoyas, Chalfant carded a 2-over 74 on the hilly layout to claim the individual title and fuel Prep's seventh consecutive IAC title.

With one last stop, Bullis is too much and makes it three straight IAC titles
Adrien Stevens watched the frenzy unfold from the seat of his shorts. After tumbling to the court while fighting for a rebound on the final play of the Interstate Athletic Conference championship game, the Marquette-bound conference player of the year remained seated as Bullis students stormed from the bleachers to meet the Bulldogs at midcourt. When Stevens got to his feet, he avoided the scrum as he walked to the scorers' table to join a developing handshake line.

Georgetown Prep wins IAC hockey tournament; Spalding splits a wrestling title
This hockey season was supposed to be a fall from grace for Georgetown Prep. The program lost its top contributors from last year, trudged through a five-game regular season losing streak and entered the Interstate Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 4 seed. Most teams would have quit during the season, senior captain Timmy Overcash told his team. But the Hoyas stayed the course, and in three games last week they shocked their conference. Prep dominated St. Stephen's/St. Agnes in the play-in game, knocked off top-seeded Landon in the semifinals and shut out Bullis in the IAC championship.

Bullis wins IAC wrestling title; Mount Vernon exchange student embraces gymnastics
Bullis Coach Drew Robertson knew that it'd be hard to build up the Bulldogs wrestling program when he took the job in 2022. The team had only six wrestlers at the end of his first season. Last year, that number grew to eight. Last Saturday, the Bulldogs completed their turnaround. Bullis (203) claimed the Interstate Athletic Conference wrestling championship ahead of second-place Landon (188.5). It is the Bulldogs' first conference title since 2020 and the program's 19th.
