Georgetown Prep wins IAC hockey tournament; Spalding splits a wrestling title
This hockey season was supposed to be a fall from grace for Georgetown Prep. The program lost its top contributors from last year, trudged through a five-game regular season losing streak and entered the Interstate Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Most teams would have quit during the season, senior captain Timmy Overcash told his team. But the Hoyas stayed the course, and in three games last week they shocked their conference. Prep dominated St. Stephen's/St. Agnes in the play-in game, knocked off top-seeded Landon in the semifinals and shut out Bullis in the IAC championship.
