DHS takes ‘father/son bonding to a whole new level' by removing age limits for ICE recruitment
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a major policy shift aimed at expanding its recruitment pool for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). On August 6, 2025, DHS made public that all age limits for new ICE applicants have been eliminated. This change is designed to accelerate the hiring of 10,000 new officers as part of a broader strategy aligned with the forceful immigration enforcement priorities of the Trump administration . The minimum age was 21, with maximum age limits generally set at 37 for criminal investigator roles, and 40 for deportation officers. The decision to remove these limits entirely marks a significant departure from previous standards. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed this during an appearance on Fox & Friends , emphasizing that applicants can be as young as 18. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? Desert Order Undo Secretary Noem highlighted that the policy change does not mean a lack of rigour; applicants must still pass medical exams, drug tests, and physical fitness assessments to qualify. The agency is determined to attract motivated individuals 'of any age' who aspire to contribute to national security and enforcement of immigration laws. Recruitment surge fueled by new incentives The age restriction removal comes amid an aggressive recruitment campaign that launched just over a week before the announcement, on July 29, 2025. Branded as 'America Needs You' one of the posters read 'We're taking father/son bonding to a whole new level.' To attract this volume of applicants, DHS has introduced a suite of financial incentives, including signing bonuses reaching $50,000, student loan forgiveness programs, premium pay for overtime work, and enhanced retirement benefits. Live Events Trump administration priorities ICE is a linchpin agency for enforcing immigration laws, particularly in executing the Trump administration's policies targeting the removal of unauthorized immigrants, including those with criminal records. At present, ICE employs over 20,000 law enforcement and support personnel. The plan to add 10,000 new officers represents one of the most ambitious expansions in recent years, aimed at enhancing the agency's capacity for widespread arrests and deportations. The removal of age restrictions is a practical response to the need for a larger, more diverse, and quickly deployable personnel pool. This change seeks to remove barriers for qualified candidates of varying ages who can pass the rigorous screening and physical demands of ICE positions.

Biggest positive trigger for markets would be a sustainable resolution of tariff issue: Abhay Agarwal
Abhay Agarwal , Founder & Fund Manager, Piper Serica , says the markets are eagerly awaiting a resolution to the US president's tariff disputes, as the daily threats are impacting Indian industries. Order cancellations from US buyers in sectors like textiles and auto ancillaries are already occurring due to tariffs. A sustainable resolution is crucial to restore market confidence and prevent companies from withdrawing earnings guidance. What is your first comment on the RBI policy? I am sure it is on the expected lines. But given that inflation is going to be limited, and the tariff situation is still evolving, GDP for the current fiscal year has also not changed because of all the uncertainty that is looming around. Having said that, the situation is still evolving. We are also looking at a Fed policy. So, what is your take on the rate cut stance in India or the US, and the way ahead? Abhay Agarwal: The RBI policy was largely on expected lines but there were a couple of things that kind of differed from the past statements by the governor and one of them was the worry that the growth that they are seeing is uneven and I do not think as a governor he would want to see that or even the finance ministry would want to see that. Productivity Tool Zero to Hero in Microsoft Excel: Complete Excel guide By Metla Sudha Sekhar View Program Finance Introduction to Technical Analysis & Candlestick Theory By Dinesh Nagpal View Program Finance Financial Literacy i e Lets Crack the Billionaire Code By CA Rahul Gupta View Program Digital Marketing Digital Marketing Masterclass by Neil Patel By Neil Patel View Program Finance Technical Analysis Demystified- A Complete Guide to Trading By Kunal Patel View Program Productivity Tool Excel Essentials to Expert: Your Complete Guide By Study at home View Program Artificial Intelligence AI For Business Professionals Batch 2 By Ansh Mehra View Program One thing on their mind is how do we make sure that there is an even growth or largely even growth? The second is that the real inflation on the Street is higher than what the name plate inflation is showing and that is one of the reasons they want to see that play out over the next quarter or so, before deciding on the next rate cut. There is ample liquidity and that is the other thing that he indicated but what they want to see is that the rate transmission takes place right to the bottom of the pyramid which I do not think has taken place as per their expectations. So, for RBI, it is a work in process that it is not only just rate cuts that will drive the economic growth but also these impacts of rate cuts being felt by everybody, the borrowers and the industry kicking off of the private capex cycle. It is a wider agenda that he referred to and it will be interesting to see. The good thing from a market perspective is to see that the RBI is very focused on these key issues and will hopefully resolve them over the next three months and we will see the impact of that in the earnings in probably the third quarter this year. Live Events You Might Also Like: Take it one day at a time; not very bullish or very bearish at this point in time: Mihir Vora Now that we have all of these events, economic indicative actions, but still the triggers, the direction for the domestic market is missing. We see a lot of contingent scenarios from the global front, tariff implications are still underway and at the same time, the quarterly are a mixed bag. Where do you see the triggers coming in? What are the compounding themes? Abhay Agarwal: The markets are waiting for positive triggers and the biggest positive trigger is some kind of resolution to these tariff tantrums by the US president. This daily negative news flow, daily threats and it is something that people can discuss but completely out of control. Unfortunately, what I am seeing is that the impact of these tariffs are already being felt by the Indian industry. We have heard over the last couple of days, cancellation of orders by large US buyers from Indian suppliers in textiles, small auto ancillaries, and some consumer products because they do not want to pay that kind of tariff for imports from India. The Indian industry is already feeling the heat. It is not a discussion or a threat anymore. This has happened. The biggest positive trigger for the markets right now would be some kind of sustainable resolution of this daily tariff threat that has already started impacting Indian exporters and that will give the market confidence that the earnings can be forecast. Otherwise, most of the companies' management will pull out their management guidance for the next quarter and the quarter after that. It is very important that some kind of resolution comes into play.

Trump open to meeting Putin over Ukraine as soon as next week, official says
President Donald Trump is open to meeting Vladimir Putin as soon as next week, a White House official said on Wednesday, as the U.S. maintained plans to impose secondary sanctions on Friday in an effort to pressure Moscow to end the war in Ukraine. The New York Times reported that Trump would hold a trilateral meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy after meeting with the Russian leader. Productivity Tool Zero to Hero in Microsoft Excel: Complete Excel guide By Metla Sudha Sekhar View Program Finance Introduction to Technical Analysis & Candlestick Theory By Dinesh Nagpal View Program Finance Financial Literacy i e Lets Crack the Billionaire Code By CA Rahul Gupta View Program Digital Marketing Digital Marketing Masterclass by Neil Patel By Neil Patel View Program Finance Technical Analysis Demystified- A Complete Guide to Trading By Kunal Patel View Program Productivity Tool Excel Essentials to Expert: Your Complete Guide By Study at home View Program Artificial Intelligence AI For Business Professionals Batch 2 By Ansh Mehra View Program The report said the plans were disclosed to European leaders, including Zelenskiy, on Wednesday. "The Russians expressed their desire to meet with President Trump, and the President is open to meeting with both President Putin and President Zelenskiy," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, responding to the report. A Trump-Putin meeting could take place as soon as next week, the White House official said. Live Events The details emerged following a meeting on Wednesday between Putin and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff that Trump said had achieved "great progress." It comes two days before a deadline set by Trump for Russia to agree to peace in Ukraine or face new sanctions. Trump has been increasingly frustrated with Putin over the lack of progress towards peace and has threatened to impose heavy tariffs on countries that buy Russian exports. The White House official said that while the meeting had gone well and Moscow was eager to continue engaging with the United States, secondary sanctions that Trump has threatened against countries doing business with Russia were still expected to be implemented on Friday. No details were provided. "My Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, just had a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Great progress was made!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social . "Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come," he added. A Kremlin aide earlier said Witkoff held "useful and constructive" talks with Putin on Wednesday. The two met for around three hours on a last-minute mission to seek a breakthrough in the 3-1/2-year war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said the two sides had exchanged "signals" on the Ukraine issue and discussed the possibility of developing strategic cooperation between Moscow and Washington, but declined to give more details until Witkoff had reported back to Trump. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he believed pressure had worked on Russia and Moscow was now more amenable to a ceasefire. "It seems that Russia is now more inclined to a ceasefire. The pressure on them works. But the main thing is that they do not deceive us in the details - neither us nor the U.S.," Zelenskiy said in his nightly address. Writing separately on the X social media platform, Zelenskiy said he had discussed Witkoff's visit to Russia with Trump, adding that he had reiterated Ukraine's support for a just peace and its continued determination to defend itself. "Ukraine will definitely defend its independence. We all need a lasting and reliable peace. Russia must end the war that it itself started," Zelenskiy said, adding that European leaders had joined the call with Trump. Trump on Truth Social said he had updated some of Washington's European allies following Witkoff's meeting. PRESSURE ON INDIA Trump took a key step toward punitive measures on Wednesday when he imposed an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, citing New Delhi's continued imports of Russian oil. No similar order was signed for China, which also imports Russian oil. The new measure raises tariffs on some Indian goods to as high as 50% - among the steepest faced by any U.S. trading partner. The Kremlin says threats to penalise countries that trade with Russia are illegal. It was not clear what Russia might have offered to Witkoff to stave off Trump's threat. Ushakov, who was present at the meeting, told Russian news outlet Zvezda: "We had a very useful and constructive conversation." He added: "On our part, in particular on the Ukrainian issue, some signals were transmitted. Corresponding signals were also received from President Trump." Bloomberg and independent Russian news outlet The Bell reported that the Kremlin might propose a moratorium on airstrikes by Russia and Ukraine - an idea mentioned last week by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting with Putin. Such a move, if agreed, would fall well short of the full and immediate ceasefire that Ukraine and the U.S. have been seeking for months. But it would offer some relief to both sides. AIR ATTACKS Since the two sides resumed direct peace talks in May, Russia has carried out its heaviest air attacks of the war, killing at least 72 people in the capital Kyiv alone. Trump last week called the Russian attacks "disgusting." Ukraine continues to strike Russian refineries and oil depots, which it has hit many times. Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Zelenskiy, said on Wednesday that a full ceasefire and a leaders' summit were required. "The war must stop and for now this is on Russia," he posted on Telegram . Putin is unlikely to bow to Trump's sanctions ultimatum because he believes he is winning the war and his military goals take precedence over his desire to improve relations with the U.S., three sources close to the Kremlin have told Reuters. The Russian sources told Reuters that Putin was sceptical that yet more U.S. sanctions would have much of an impact after successive waves of economic penalties during 3-1/2 years of war.
