Kerala: Four mega projects worth Rs 1,211 crore kick off post investment summit

KOCHI: Barely three months after signing MoUs at the Invest Kerala Global Summit in Kochi, four major projects worth Rs 1,211 crore have officially taken off, marking a clear shift in the state's investment climate from promises to execution. Industries Minister P Rajeeve confirmed that these big-ticket ventures — including Joy Alukkas Group's Rs 300 crore residential-cum-hospital project in Ernakulam and Dynimated's Rs 800 crore deep-tech visual communication facility in Alangad — have broken ground. They're joined by Positive Chip Boards (Rs 51 crore) and M S Wood Alliance Park (Rs 60 crore), signaling that investor intent is translating into action. These aren't isolated cases. Another wave of eight projects worth Rs 2,675 crore is set to begin construction within this month, followed by projects totaling Rs 1,117 crore in June. The biggies in the queue? Sutherland's Rs 1,500 crore BPO centre in Kochi, Kalyan Silks' Rs 500 crore investment in Thrissur, and Bluestar Realtors' Rs 00 crore logistics hub. But what really puts Kerala on the investment fast-track is the creation of a High-Level Advisory Committee to ensure these projects don't get stuck in red tape.

Kerala setting a new benchmark for investment promotion, project implementation: Rajeeve

Four projects for which expression of interests (EOIs) have been received at the Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS) in Kochi this February commenced in April. The projects have a total outlay of ₹1,211 crore. Meanwhile, foundation stone will be laid this month for eight projects coming up at an investment of ₹2,675 crore. The four projects have the potential to generate 3,050 jobs. As many as 8,800 jobs will be created by the eight projects. Disclosing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, Minister for Industries P. Rajeeve said this affirmed Kerala's standing as a premier investment destination with increased investor trust in the government. He said another five projects, with an outlay of over ₹1,000 crore and the potential to generate 2,400 jobs, were slated to begin in June. 'By combining transparent digital tools, decentralised execution, and policy reform, Kerala is setting a new benchmark for investment promotion and project implementation in the country,' he said. Among the major proposals that came up at the IKGS, the Genome Valley at Life Sciences Park with an investment of ₹3,800 crore in Thiruvananthapuram will commence construction shortly while Unity Mall in Thiruvananthapuram will be inaugurated in November, the Minister said. A dedicated advisory group, chaired by the Minister, has been formed for monitoring project implementation, coordinating across departments and resolving issues. A policy reform meeting chaired by the Chief Minister is scheduled for June. The meeting will address the procedural and policy bottlenecks that affect investment implementation and focus on improving the overall ease of doing business. A portal, has been launched to create a database of land available in the State for industrial purposes, the Minister said. The portal will function like a matchmaking website where those who have land available for industrial purposes can list information, Mr. Rajeeve said. Another portal, developed by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation, will provide investors and departments updates and information about each proposal's implementation status. It also features a monthly progress report to ensure transparency and stakeholder accountability. Around 450 EOIs have been received at the IKGS, for which over 370 project-level meetings have been conducted so far, and updated status reports and photographs have been uploaded on the dashboard of the IKGS portal.

Kerala catches fancy of more international IT firms

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is poised for its next big leap in the IT landscape with over 30 international firms showing interest to set up their Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in the state. Comply, Giant Eagle and Micropolis are among the IT and ITeS (Information Technology Enabled Services) companies eager to leverage Kerala's GCC ecosystem. The high-powered IT committee appointed by the government is holding discussions with potential investors, with the support of a consortium of global consulting firms formed specifically for the purpose. 'The firms include new names and existing companies looking for an expansion. The idea of a consortium evolved at the Invest Kerala Global Summit held in February. It really worked,' said Sambasiva Rao, IT Secretary. The consortium comprises 12 leading global consulting firms, including Everest Group, Avasant and ANSR. 'Several prominent companies have already established their GCCs in Kerala. Their presence validates the state's potential in technology, innovation and human resources,' said Sambasiva Rao. Technopark CEO Sanjeev Nair said Kerala is now a flourishing centre for GCCs, offering state of the art facilities at its IT parks. 'Already several companies have their GCCs in Kerala — IBM, Allianz, Nissan Digital, EY, NOV, Insight, H&R Block, Equifax, Accenture, Guidehouse, Icon, Safran, RM Education etc. to name a few. The state is poised to accommodate more such centres,' he said. 'State's talent pool draws in IT-driven biz' According to him, talent pool availability, world-class infrastructure and a robust startup system are the factors which attract IT-driven businesses to Kerala. 'The state is becoming a product engineering hub. We have vibrant IT parks in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. There is a strong talent pipeline availability based on excellent academia-industry connect involving the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Digital University Kerala, ICT Academy of Kerala and MuLearn. Another highlight is a thriving startup ecosystem under the Kerala Startup Mission,' Sanjeev Nair said. 'Kerala's strong social development indicators like highest HDI, literacy rate and internet penetration make it a best place to work and live in the country,' he added. WHAT IS GCC? A Global Capability Centre is a facility set up by international firms in talent-rich regions. GCCs help the parent company explore global talent and benefit from technological advancements besides cost advantage.
