He made the remarks on the sidelines of the event, 'Voices of Conscience: A solidarity gathering for Palestine'. Speaking with ANI, Ambassador Elahi said India can play an enhanced role in the peace and stability of the region. "India as a big country, can play a more efficient role for the peace and stability of the region. We believe that there is a grand strategy from the US and Israel. They are going to change the maps of the region by different actions and plans. Any changes in the region, will not be for the benefit of the whole region. We believe that all countries have influence and potential and should do their best to keep the peace and stability of the region," he said. He also referred to Chabahar port, a collaborative project between the two countries. "Chabahar was active and operative during the war. The rate of transit from Chabahar is increasing yearly... Chabahar will be connected to the national railway network in the coming months," he said, underscoring its role as the "shortest, cheapest, and safest route" to Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and Eurasia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo India has undertaken to develop the Shahid Beheshti Port at Chabahar, Iran, by equipping and operating General Cargo and Container Terminal for a period of 10 years, as per the Long Term Main Contract from May 13, 2024. The Iranian Envoy also talked about his country's conflict with Israel. "Iran did not request for any ceasefire. If you review the Iranian strike and the Iranian military operation to defend itself, the trend was increasing... We were ready to continue the war and defend ourselves. When they stopped their aggression, we also stopped our retaliation," he said. Iraj Elahi accused Israel of "breaking ceasefires". "Israel has broken the ceasefire in Gaza, and in Lebanon too many times.... This is why we are cautious and ready for any scenario," he said. Elahi also criticised Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the US and his nomination of former US president Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize, calling it a "misuse of peace and stability." "The international community will not accept this propaganda... Netanyahu cannot do genocide in Gaza without the support of the US." He also talked of Iran suspending cooperation with IAEA. "The public opinion of Iran is not satisfied with what they have witnessed from IAEA... Iranian Parliament has passed a bill to stop any cooperation with IAEA," he said. Reaffirming Iran's support for the Palestinian cause, the envoy described the situation in Gaza as a "shameful". "The ongoing genocide in Gaza is shameful for all human beings. It is difficult and expressing grief is not enough. Those countries who have good influence and good relations with Israel should convince Netanyahu to stop this genocide," he said.

Iran Urges India To Lead For Regional Peace And Counter US-Israel 'Strategy' To Destabilise Region

Iran's Ambassador to India, Iraj Elahi, has issued a clear call to New Delhi: step up for regional peace. In a powerful statement, Elahi said India, as a major power, must play a more efficient role in preserving peace and stability across West Asia. He alleged a joint US-Israel grand strategy to redraw the region's map through disruptive actions, warning that such changes would harm all regional stakeholders. On the strategic Chabahar port, Elahi highlighted its uninterrupted operation, even during wartime, and its growing importance. He confirmed that Chabahar will soon be connected to Iran's national railway network, strengthening India's access to Central Asia and Eurasia. The remarks come at a crucial time as global powers jostle for influence and India deepens its strategic footprint.#india #iran #israel #unitedstates #iranindia #chabaharport #geopolitics #indiaisrael #usiranrelations #regionalpeace #eurasiatrade #iranambassador #indiainforeignpolicy #newdelhi #toi #toibharat #bharat #trending #breakingnews #indianews Read More

Our nuclear activity used as pretext to launch attacks: Iran envoy

Iranian ambassador to India Iraj Elahi said Wednesday that the country's nuclear activity is used 'as a pretext to launch attacks' while Palestinian ambassador Abdullah M Abu Shawesh said that the 'cause of Palestine is the cause of our shared humanity'. The ambassadors were speaking at a seminar titled 'Voices of Conscience: a solidarity gathering for Palestine' in Delhi organised by groups Indian Muslim for Civil Rights and India Palestine Friendship Forum. Elahi said, '… while the Iranian government was preparing for the sixth rounds of talks regarding its peaceful nuclear programme, Israel launched missiles on us… this was a blatant violation of international law. The Israeli regime has a long history of aggression right from 1948.' 'Israel is not even a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Iranian nuclear facilities have been destroyed. We are part of the NPT, and have no nuclear weapons. They use the nuclear activity of Iran as a pretext to launch attacks. We in Iran are paying the cost for our support for Palestine. Nuclear activity is just an excuse… Iran was the best friend of Israel at one point. We were the intermediary between Egypt and Israel,' Elahi said. '… It wasn't Iran that requested or approached the US for a ceasefire. Our strike was precise and well calculated. It was Israel which approached the US. Iran was ready for the continuation of war,' he said. During the event, Shawesh said, 'The cause of Palestine is the cause of our shared humanity. India was the champion in G7. No one should be left behind, India said. For 642 days, we have been left behind. This unwillingness of the international community has cost us 100,000 lives. We have copied you Indians in your military resistance of 1857.' 'What is happening in Gaza is worse than the Nazi Holocaust. 77 years ago, 7.5 lakh Palestinians lost their lands, their homes in the most cruel and hideous manner… A child born in Gaza today will know trauma more than rather than playing with toys,' said former Delhi L-G Najeeb Jung. Former Union Minister Mani Shanker Aiyyar and former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid also spoke at the event.
