Mariah the Scientist Taps Kali Uchis for Ultimate R&B Queen Link-Up
Hearts Sold Separately is just weeks away — and Mariah the Scientist is giving fans another song to preview her upcoming record. On Thursday, the R&B singer released the sultry 'Is It a Crime,' featuring Kali Uchis' luscious vocals. 'Tell me, what's it to ya? Tell me, is it a crime/To fall, to fall in love, in love a couple times?' questions Mariah in the chorus. Uchis then responds in her sexy verse: 'Is it a crime? How's it a crime? No/'Cause if loving me is jail, then you're my prisoner.' The collaboration follows the album's lead single, 'Burning Blue,' which dropped in May. Mariah the Scientist is set to perform at Lollapalooza this weekend before some shows through September. Her last album, To Be Eaten Alive, was released in 2023, featuring collaborations with 21 Savage, Young Thug, and Vory. As for Uchis, who teased the collaboration with Mariah on Instagram, she released her album Sincerely earlier this year, featuring standouts 'It's Just Us,' 'Sunshine & Rain,' and 'Sugar! Honey! Love!' Rolling Stone gave Sincerely, four stars and called it a 'vulnerable meditation on motherhood, her own childhood, and the challenge of holding opposing truths with equal care.' The Colombian-American star is set to go on her first-ever headlining arena tour in mid-August, stopping at venues such as the Kia Forum in LA and Madison Square Garden in New York. Thee Sacred Souls will join her as an opener. Mariah The Scientist x Kali Uchis Are a Dreamy Duo on "Is It a Crime"
Summary Mariah The Scientisthas been busy gearing up for the release of her fourth studio album,HEARTS SOLD SEPARATELY. After making a grand return to the scene with 'Burning Blue,' the songstress has now shared the album's second pre-release single, which marks her first-ever collaboration withKali Uchis. Entitled 'Is It a Crime,' the track transpires as a long-overdue link-up between the two R&B pioneers. Clocking in at just over three minutes, Mariah kicks it off with the first verse and chorus before handing it off to Uchis, the two proving an effortless sonic synergy. Though we don't have a music video quite yet, based on Mariah's recent Instagram posts, it appears we can expect one in due time. WhileHEARTS SOLD SEPARATELY's tracklist hasn't been set in stone yet, we do know that the LP will have 10 tracks, 'Is It A Crime' and 'Burning Blue' landing as tracks four and five, respectively.
