EXCLUSIVE Emmerdale star reveals the moment she learned about Robert Sugden's 'wild' return after THAT shock wedding reveal
Emmerdale star Isabel Hodgins has revealed the moment she first learned that Robert Sugden would be making a surprise return to the soap. In a return that has left fans stunned, Robert crashed his ex Aaron Dingle's wedding to John earlier this week, with the former flames quick to reignite their sizzling chemistry. And speaking to MailOnline at the Soap Awards, Isabel, who plays Robert's sister Victoria, has shared the exact moment she discovered Ryan Hawley would be coming back to the show after a six-year break. She said: 'I found out because Danny [Miller] knew, and Danny and I are very good friends, and we talk and he said ''can you keep a secret?''... so that's when he blabbed to me, in the New Year, and then I just pretended I knew nothing. 'It's gonna be impactful and it's gonna be a big rumble, and people are gonna love it.' Asked how Victoria will react to Robert's return, Isabel added: 'I think she's gonna be conflicted because she's got a heart of gold, and now she's got two brothers to love who ultimately love the same person, and John's a really nice guy, Robert's not! 'So whose the better fit for Aaron. It's a tricky one isn't it, so she's going to have to navigate that so good luck for her!' Of course, viewers are aware of John's murderous behaviour since he entered the village, and have been eagerly waiting for the moment his crimes are exposed. Aaron also remains blissfully unaware, and despite Robert's return, he decided to go ahead with his wedding to John. It remains to be seen when John's web lies will catch up with him, and when grilled about how things will play out in the coming weeks, Isabel was noticeably tight-lipped. She added: 'I don't know, but he's so good, so subtle at how much of a bad guy it is, so I think it would be nice to eek it out a bit more, how much of a mess are his lies gonna get him.' Hinting fans are in for a 'wild ride,' the actress added: 'She's obviously got to get to know Robert all over again, and then I also think they've got things to sort out, there's a little bit of guilt there because the reason he's in prison in the first place is kind of because of her, so you've got to unpack that.' The best and brightest in serial drama were in attendance for the British Soap Awards on Saturday, with the ceremony set to be broadcast on ITV on June 5. It was the BBC 's EastEnders that cleaned up on the night with eight awards while Hollyoaks received three, Emmerdale two and Coronation Street only one. They kicked off their wins with Best Episode which went to Phil's Psychosis: The Mitchells In 1985. EastEnders also won Scene of the Year for Angie Watts' Shock Return while Navin Chowdhry won Best Villain for his role of Nish Panesar. Steve McFadden, who plays fan favourite Phil Mitchell, won the Best Dramatic Performance award while Patsy Palmer won Best Comedic Performance for her role as Bianca Jackson. Rudolph Walker & Angela Wynter (Patrick & Yolande Trueman) delivered another win for EastEnders as they won Best On-Screen Partnership. Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater, won the Best Leading Performer Award and EastEnders also won the most coveted award of all: Best British Soap. Hollyoaks' three awards started with Isabelle Smith who won Best Newcomer for her role as Frankie Osborne. The Osbornes then won the Best Family award while Hollyoaks' sibling sexual abuse storyline received the Best Storyline award. Emmerdale's Amelia Flanagan won Best Young Performer for playing April Windsor while camera operator Mike Plant took home the Tony Warren Award which is given to employees working behind the scenes. Coronation Street's sole gong of the night was the Outstanding Achievement Award which went to David Neilson who has played Roy Cropper for 30 years. Shock Emmerdale exit as soap legend leaves just days after returning
THERE was yet another shock in Emmerdale with an exit as a soap legend left the dales again just days after making a dramatic return. Viewers tuned into the long-running ITV soap to see Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) tie the knot with John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). 7 7 Aaron's ex-husband Robert (Ryan Hawley) made a sensational Emmerdale comeback as he attempted to stop the nuptials. He was previously seen on-screen when he was sent down for the murder of Lee, who raped his sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins). The character was sentenced to fourteen years without parole and he was transferred to a different prison that was far away from the village. However, Robert was released early and he found out about Aaron's wedding on social media. He admitted that he still loved Aaron and the pair kissed on the bridge, before he got into a fight with John. On tonight's episode that was uploaded to ITVX, Robert will make another exit. After Aaron chooses to go through with the wedding to John, Robert is arrested for breaking the terms of his licence. Suspecting that John reported his half-brother to the police for missing his first probation meeting, he soon gets dragged back to prison. He calls Victoria who is celebrating the wedding of her other brother from the Woolpack. Although Robert reminds her that he and Aaron once took their vows in front of the village residents, she urges him to admit defeat. Emmerdale shock return as Aaron's wedding to serial killer is gatecrashed by ex She tells him that ultimately, Aaron chose John, but Robert was not having it, as he replied: "For now maybe." Victoria then asks how long he will remain behind bars, to which he says: "For a while maybe. "I guess you should use this time to put it all behind you, admit that you've lost and move on." Robert then put the phone down and disgruntledly made his way back to his cell. Aaron Dingle's biggest storylines The character Aaron Dingle (formerly Livesy) made his Emmerdale debut all the way back in 2003. Current actor Danny Miller took on the role in 2008. Here are some of Aaron's biggest soap storylines over the years. McFarlane family: After Aaron returns to the village in 2008, he is arrested by Ross Kirk (Samuel Anderson) for possession of drugs. His mother Chas ' (Lucy Pargeter) family later learn he is a drug courier for the McFarlanes. Coming to terms with his homosexuality: Initially, Aaron questioned and struggled to come to terms with his homosexuality. He ultimately confided in friend and guardian Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt). Romantic advance towards Adam Barton: At one point, Aaron begins dating Holly Barton (Sophie Powles) and befriends her brother Adam (Adam Thomas). Aaron tries to kiss Adam after they are involved in a run-off road collision. Embarrassed, he tells Adam that he misunderstood the situation. Aaron sleeps with Holly, however, Adam informs his family that he thinks Aaron is gay. Aaron denies it but Holly ends the relationship. Child sexual abuse: In 2015, it was revealed Aaron had been sexually abused by his father Gordon (Gary Mavers) when he was from the age of 8 before Gordon kicked him out. Ultimately, Gordon was imprisoned years later - but took his own life while in prison. Relationship with Jackson Walsh: Aaron and Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock) started dating after a tumultuous start to knowing each other. Their story ultimately ended in heartbreak, as Jackson died by assisted suicide. Suicide attempt: A harrowing storyline from 2010 saw a then-teenage Aaron attempt to take his own life. Relationship with Robert Sugden: Aaron and long-standing character Robert Sugden were romantically linked following the latter's return in 2014. Nicknamed "Robron", the pair married in 2018, however, Robert exited the soap in 2019. This is sure to be a shock to viewers as it was previously revealed that Ryan will be back permanently, although his first return was only for an initial short stint. A source said: "It will soon become clear that Robert's freedom isn't all that it seems and he will end up back behind bars for a little while. "His full-time return will come later in the summer and it's set to be explosive." Ex Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden breaks his silence on soap's infamous race row which saw him 'wrongly' accused by co-star and left suffering a nervous breakdown
Former Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden has broken his silence on the soap's infamous 2021 race row which resulted in him and co-star Isabel Hodgins being suspended for three months and him suffering a nervous breakdown. At the time the pair were said to have 'mimicked the accent of a mixed-raced actress' on set, resulting in a vigorous enquiry, with their characters' absences explained by the pair taking an extended Portuguese holiday. Speaking on The Lewis Nicholls Show Matthew, 45, said he and Isabel had been 'falsely' accused and said the pair were in fact impersonating a white British character from BBC sketch show League Of Gentleman. The actor, who quit the role of David Metcalfe in 2023, claimed ITV bosses stopped him from defending himself publicly, resulting in his mental health 'spiralling' before checking into the Priory Clinic. 'I said to her, "Have you ever seen the League of Gentlemen?" And there's a scene in the League of Gentlemen where Reece Shearsmith dresses up as a lady called Pam Doove and it's called the Orange Juice Scene'. 'He's playing an actress who comes into an audition room and is very eloquent - it's an old acting joke - and then the director says, "Go out of the room and come back in" and say "Has anyone got a bottle of orange juice?" for an audition. and she returns and does it in a different accent'. Matthew claimed the Emmerdale press team told him to 'stay quiet' when 'all he wanted to do' was tell the truth about what really happened. 'It was hard and I got very very poorly and had a nervous breakdown. I ended up having a nervous breakdown and I ended up in the priory for a month. I thought I was going to lose my job over this over something I haven't done. He continued: 'I've always struggled with my mental health so just ended up with this big spiral down and ended up having a nervous breakdown. I had to be taken into the Priory for a month to get better.' While not naming the person who made accusation against him, Matthew said they'd left the show before he returned from suspension. 'It would've been difficult to go back and be face to face with the person who accused you absolutely wrongly'. An ITV spokesperson told MailOnline: 'Whilst we would never comment on specific cases, ITV takes all allegations of racism and bullying extremely seriously and investigates all incidents thoroughly and takes appropriate action'. At the time fellow Emmerdale star Aaron Anthony was said to have dramatically quit because he was 'bitterly angry' with two of his co-stars amid the race probe. Aaron, who played Ellis Chapman, told producers he would not be returning after his contract ends because he is furious with his colleagues' alleged behaviour, claims The Sun. Aaron was reportedly so 'furious' about the row and how the subsequent investigation 'has been handled', he has decided to leave the show after two years. A source told the publication: 'Aaron is bitterly angry about this situation and he has had to be persuaded to come back to Leeds film his scenes in recent months. 'He has done some filming over the last couple of weeks, but the understanding is that those scenes will be his last. 'He has been very vocal in his opinions about the allegations and about the way in which the enquiries have been handled by the bosses. He now feels his position on the show is untenable.' Aaron took over the role from disgraced actor Asan N'Jie, who was sacked for threatening to 'kill' fellow soap star Jamie Lomas, 44, at the TV Choice Awards in 2019.

Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden breaks silence over soap race row and confirms why he was suspended
FORMER Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has broken his silence about the soap's race row and finally revealed the truth behind it. The David Metcalfe actor and co-star Isabel Hodgins - who plays Victoria Sugden in the ITV soap - disappeared from screens in 2021 after it was revealed a complaint had been made about them. 2 2 At the time Emmerdale denied the pair had been suspended, but now four years on, Matthew has revealed the truth of what happened revealing they were 'mistakenly' accused of doing a Chinese accent. Speaking for the first time about it, he said: 'We were falsely accused of doing an accent on set. 'Whenever the word race is used they have to take it seriously. So a young cast member mistakenly thought he heard us doing a Chinese accent, so he went up to see the producer and said, 'I'm not very happy about this, I think I've just heard them mimicking a Chinese accent so because of this we did have to get suspended because as soon as that's an issue they have to go down the correct routes while they investigate what happens. 'Unfortunately when you get suspended from a continuing drama, you have to get written out of storylines and that is not an easy process because the storylines are written six weeks in advance, you film six weeks in advance and then it's on screen. 'So even if you're off for two weeks that could be three months of not being on screen. 'Basically what had happened was me and Izzy were working lots together at the time because were were in a relationship [on screen] and we loved watching comedies. 'So we were sat one day talking about what comedies we loved to watch and we were doing scenes, mimicking the scenes, doing the lines from the scenes. 'And I said to her, 'Have you ever seen the League of Gentlemen?' And there's a scene in the League of Gentlemen where Reece Shearsmith dresses up as a lady called Pam Doove and it's called the Orange Juice Scene if anyone wants to Google it and see what I mean. Matthew Wolfenden breaks down in tears on This Morning over Emmerdale exit after playing David for 18 years Matthew claimed he was told by bosses not to speak out and explain what happened, and the situation left him vulnerable and saw him checked into a mental health clinic. He added on podcast The Lewis Nichollls Show: 'I didn't have a leg to stand on because the press team at Emmerdale just said to stay quiet. 'All I wanted to do was tell my truth and tell that story and I was kind of told not to. And that was difficult because I was being accused of something that I hadn't done. 'It was hard and I got very very poorly and had a nervous breakdown. I ended up having a nervous breakdown and I ended up in the priory for a month.' He added: 'I thought I was going to lose my job over this over something I haven't done. 'I've always struggled with my mental health so just ended up with this big spiral down and ended up having a nervous breakdown. I had to be taken into the Priory for a month to get better.' Matthew, who later quit the soap in 2023, added: 'It was just a horrible, horrible time. It was a difficult couple of years to me.' He also revealed that he would have struggled to speak to the cast member who made the allegation - but fortunately they left the show during his absence. The actor said: 'That person [who made the allegation] had left the show before I started back which in hindsight yeah, it would've been difficult to go back and be face to face with the person who accused you absolutely wrongly. 'I think there's certain ways of approaching that conversation instead of going straight to the boss… where we would have to be suspended on that accusation. 'It was a tough pill to swallow.' EMMERDALE actress Isabel Hodgins has revealed her wedding day secrets as she gushed over her "brilliant" day. The ITV screen star said I Do to partner Adam Whitehead in a stunning ceremony in Manchester, after it was confirmed her "affair partner" made the guest list. 6 6 6 On-screen, Isabel, 31, has played Emmerdale 's Victoria Sugden since 2006 - and the beauty confirmed a host of her co-stars had witnessed their nuptials at the city's Castlefield Rooms last month. She let slip details of her special day a month on, including the 63-strong guest list, how she did her own speech and that Adam even forgot her name during the vows. In 2023, Isabel announced she was engaged to her boyfriend. And two years later they made it down the aisle, but it wasn't without its stresses. She told MirrorOnline: "I know I'm an actor but I don't like being the centre of attention. A wedding's quite stressful, so even before it I was over it. "Then the day came and I was like, 'we'll just go with the flow'. It was perfect. "I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it, how full my heart was. It was just brilliant." Talking of the support of her soap co-stars she said Eden Taylor Draper was a bridesmaid while Danny Miller, Mark Jordon, Laura Norton, Jeff Hordley and Zoë Henry were all in attendance. Isabel, who is hoping to become pregnant soon, added to the publication: "I've known them for so long, Laura's like a sister to me. Eden was my bridesmaid. "They're just all such special, beautiful people. I said in my speech that me and Adam hadn't been going out for very long and I was telling Zoë about him and she was like, 'I've got a feeling you're going to marry this man.' "She just knew." Danny's spot on the guest list comes after the pair's previous rumoured affair. It came after his ex, Hollyoaks star Kirsty-Leigh Porter discovered that Danny had reportedly been having a fling with his Emmerdale co-star Isabel behind her back. At the time, Isabel was dating their mutual co-star Michael Parr, who played bad boy Ross Barton. Kirsty found message exchanges between Danny and Isabel and it allegedly caused tension on set too. We previously reported: 'Isabel and Danny thought they could keep their romance secret but when Kirsty-Leigh saw the texts on his phone, the game was up. She was furious."
