Arizona Cardinals, OL Will Hernandez expected to reach deal
The Arizona Cardinals had free agent offensive lineman Will Hernandez in for a visit this week. They are expected to reach a deal for him to return to the team. According to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM's John Gambadoro, both sides would like to get a deal done, and he expects a contract to be agreed upon soon. Hernandez spent the last three seasons as the Cardinals' starting right guard. He tore his ACL in Week 5 last season and only recently was medically cleared for football. Since then, 2024 third-round pick Isaiah Adams has been moved into Hernandez' old starting job. If Hernandez is re-signed, it does not mean that Adams will move to the bench. In fact, since Hernandez has not participated in any training camp, Cards Wire's Howard Balzer believes the Cardinals would start Hernandez on PUP, potentially having him start the season there, where he would have to miss the first four games, at least. Hernandez would give the Cardinals proven starter-quality depth behind Adams and the Cardinals wouldn't miss a beat should someone get hurt. OL Will Hernandez visits Arizona Cardinals
Former Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Will Hernandez could possibly become a current Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman. According to the NFL transaction report on Monday, Hernandez had a visit with the Cardinals. Hernandez spent the last three seasons as the team's starting right guard. He played in only five games last season, tearing is ACL against the San Francisco 49ers. His contract expired and has not signed a deal with any team since becoming a free agent. He recently announced that he has been fully cleared medically to play football. The Cardinals never reassigned the No. 76 he wore for three seasons, even though their sixth-round draft pick, guard Hayden Conner, wore it all through college. Clearly, the door has been open. Hernandez will be 30 years old before the season begins. The Cardinals appear to be happy with second-year guard Isaiah Adams as the starting right guard. The question is whether Hernandez would be willing to sign a deal to return and not be assured a starting role. Even in a reserve role, considering how injuries impact teams, having someone of his ability on the bench would be great for the team's depth. Having him on the roster would allow the Cardinals to hedge against injury or Adams not playing well. We will see if anything official happens, or if the Cardinals used this visit for a potential move down the line. Arizona Cardinals free agent OL Will Hernandez fully cleared after ACL surgery
The Arizona Cardinals seem to have a spot on their roster still available for offensive lineman Will Hernandez, who after three years as their starting right is an unsigned free agent. If they have been waiting for him to be healthy, that time has arrived. Hernandez, who suffered a torn ACL last ywear in Week 5, announced via his Instagram account that he has been fullu medically cleared for football. Football got taken away from me 9 months ago, it was the hardest thing that's ever happened to me . This has been my entire life. Many said that was it for me. I've always been that player to talk up a big game and motivate the guys around me but for once it was my turn to practice what I preached! IM HUNGRY being away from the game so long made me fall in love with it again ! But this time I'm not just coming back for my self but for all my people 🇲🇽 ima lead by example and show yall que SI SE PUEDE! Especially for all the LIL MIJOS that have dreams too watching me .Whatever yall going through rn use me as proof that with hard work you can make anything happen ! The Cardinals have had second-year guard Isaiah Adams playing right guard with the starting offense this offseason, but the possibility of Hernandez' return has not been ruled out. After all, the Cardinals did not reassign No. 76, the number he wore for three seasons. And that is somewhat significant because rookie offensive lineman Hayden Conner, their sixth-round pick this year, wore No. 76 all through college at Texas. A year ago, after they released tackle D.J. Humphries, his No. 74 was given to Adams. Now healthy, Hernandez will have suitors. The Cardinals seem happy with Adams, but Hernandez had been their best lineman over the three seasons here. This will be something to watch, either for the Cardinals or for Hernandez landing with another team. Cardinals training camp: OL Isaiah Adams is a player with something to prove in camp
Many players on the Cardinals' roster have something to prove in training camp. OL Isaiah Adams is one of them. The Arizona Cardinals kicked off their second week of training camp on Monday with the pads finally coming on. The competition between players and position battles continue. We have detailed a number of key position battles for the team. Aside from those battles, there are some individual players who have something to prove in camp this year. One such player is offensive lineman Isaiah Adams. Cardinals OL Isaiah Adams has something to prove It is true that every players in the NFL has something to prove, but Adams is in a new position. After starting the final five games last seaosn at right guard, he has been the team's starting right guard all offseason. Enteirng his second NFL season, he is the on player on the starting offensive line who doesn't already have years of starting experience. He has gotten stronger. But with free agent Will Hernandez announcing he has been medically cleared to play again after recovering from a torn ACL, that opens the door for a possible re-signing. Hernandez was the Cardinals' starting right guard the last three seasons. Adams needs to prove he is starting-caliber and not just the guy the Cardinals put in the starting lineup. Perhaps the plan all along has been to give Adams every opportunity to show he is ready to play as a starter, but possibly bring back Hernandez in the case that he isn't up to the task. He is the guy to watch on the starting offensive line both in practices and in the preseason, assuming he gets at least some playing time. Cardinals training camp: Right guard is position to watch but isn't big position battle
Isaiah Adams is lined up to be the starting right guard and has been since the spring. The Arizona Cardinals have a number of notable position battles as they have begun training camp. Throughout the offseason, one particular position has had the attention. But as camp has begun, it appears that this job is not as competitive as we thought it would be. That would be the right guard position. The Cardinals have not brought back guard Will Hernandez, who had started at right guard for the last three seasons and tore his ACL last year in Week 5. 2024 third-round pick Isaiah Adams finished the season starting the final five games at right guard, but then the Cardinals signed Royce Newman, who has 24 career starts, drafted Hayden Conner in the sixth round and still have 2023 fourth-round pick Jon Gaines. While it was believed that there would be a competition for the starting job, but that hasn't been the case. Adams has been running with the first team since the spring, a trend that the Cardinals have had the last two years for their offensive line. When the left guard job was not certain heading into the last two offseasons, Elijah Wilkinson ran with the first team in the spring and was the starter, while last year, the same happened with Evan Brown. Naturally, there will still be competition, but as things stand right now as camp begins, Adams will have the job unless he gets hurt or loses it. His performance in camp and the preseason is certainly something to watch, but right guard is not one of their key position battles.
