'Grealish thrives on being the main character'
Former Everton captain Izzy Christiansen says Jack Grealish "has a superb opportunity" at Everton, where journalist Rory Smith thinks he may "thrive" as "a main character". Grealish made just seven starts last season for Manchester City after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola, but there is widescale optimism that the England international can get his career back on track. "He has a point to prove, but you can also see that he has maintained a very high level of fitness," said Christiansen on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "To me, that shows he has a lot of intrinsic motivation. "It didn't work out for him at City but you can't forget what he achieved either in his second year when he helped them win the treble. "He fell out of favour but he has a superb opportunity now to galvanise his career and under David Moyes' stewardship. I think he can." Football correspondent for The Observer, Rory Smith added: "I think this is an amazing transfer for everybody. It just works. "The Premier League is better when you have those maverick talents at clubs who will build teams around them. "Grealish is a player you want to go and watch. He might not be the most reliable all of the time, but he gets you on the edge of your seat. "He won't be the difference in every game but there will be matches he will be able to dominate and express himself in. "There are some players who are their best when they are the star player - even if it means dropping down a level to do so. "Grealish thrives on being the main character. I am excited to see what he will do in an Everton shirt." Listen to the Monday Night Club on BBC Sounds

'They could win it if they keep their squad together'
Former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen says only time will tell whether Crystal Palace's demotion to the Conference League "will be a blessing in disguise". Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club, Christiansen recognised the frustration after they lost their appeal, but said that "cannot move away from the fact Oliver Glasner has done a wonderful job" to get them this far. "He has won two trophies and you would probably back them to compete into the late stages of the Conference League as well," said Christiansen. "They could win it if they keep their squad together. "That then would then be a third consecutive trophy and that shows huge success for them as a club. "The manager has been given time to build and I think they have the most exciting front three in the league when Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr are on form." Man Utd moves are 'steps in the right direction'
Where Bryan Mbeumo will play for Manchester United is still unclear, but his arrival has been described as another "step in the right direction" for the forward joined United from Brentford on Monday in a £65m the transfer on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club, former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen said: "He offers something different."In Amorim's system, where does he play? Does he play off the left, down the middle or off the right in a narrow front three?"Narrow forwards fit that system better. I think he is a great signing for United. It's just the environment he steps into, the team dynamics and how they are going to operate. Is he going to be competing with Rasmus Hojlund? Is he going to be playing to the side of Hojlund?"But it is a good, solid signing and a player who has certainly proved himself in the league."Ex-Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha agreed, adding: "I think realistically, for the position that United are in now, they don't really have a solid foundation for building true success in this particular moment."You need some people who are aware of the league itself, aware of how United stand within it and aware of the expectation that comes with being there."On the other side of it, you look at Hojlund - he has huge potential but it has not really worked out yet. They need something to work out now. As they build for the future, those younger players and bigger prospects that take a few years develop, that's great, but they are not there now."By getting Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha now, those are steps in the right direction for United."Listen to the full discussion on BBC Sounds
