'They could win it if they keep their squad together'

Former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen says only time will tell whether Crystal Palace's demotion to the Conference League "will be a blessing in disguise".
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club, Christiansen recognised the frustration after they lost their appeal, but said that "cannot move away from the fact Oliver Glasner has done a wonderful job" to get them this far.
"He has won two trophies and you would probably back them to compete into the late stages of the Conference League as well," said Christiansen. "They could win it if they keep their squad together.
"That then would then be a third consecutive trophy and that shows huge success for them as a club.
"The manager has been given time to build and I think they have the most exciting front three in the league when Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr are on form."

Bears LB Noah Sewell discussed goal-line stop vs. Dolphins

Early in Sunday's preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears linebacker Noah Sewell, competing for a starting job, made a statement with his play. In the first quarter, as the Dolphins were threatening at the goal line and knocking on the door of scoring a touchdown, Sewell fired through the gap on fourth down and logged a tackle for loss, forcing a turnover on downs. Sewell's play kept the game scoreless early on and put an emphasis on his performance as he competes for the third linebacker spot alongside veterans T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds. Ending the game with six total tackles, Sewell's one tackle for loss came in one of the most crucial moments in the early stages of the game as he slammed the door on Miami's offense. Following the game, Sewell discussed his goal line stop and how the defense's mentality helped prepare him for that moment. "I knew what kind of situation we were in," Sewell said, via Bears on CHSN. "I was like somebody has to step up, why can't it be me? I just saw the gap open up and I shot my shot. After that play happened I just blacked out and celebrated, everyone was telling me good play, and then I remembered that it was a fourth down stop. Day in and day out, we attack the day the same. Physicality is highly preached in our defensive room so I just try to uphold that." Sewell's performance should give him an upper hand in the battle for the third linebacker spot early in preseason, and his development could be a fun surprise throughout this season. Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool's next step to sign Alexander Isak

Liverpool's pursuit for Alexander Isak continues and Fabrizio Romano has the latest. This has been a successful window for the Reds. However, one deal has dominated the headlines and has continued to drag on for Liverpool. 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! The club's dream target has always been Alexander Isak. This is the player Liverpool have identified as the perfect next step to lead Arne Slot's evolution at Anfield. At 25-years-old, Isak is in the prime of his life. He's a proven goal-scorer who can take Liverpool to an even higher level than last season. This is why Liverpool have been so keen on signing him. And it's also why Newcastle United have been so reluctant to sell him. They know the asset they are holding is a special one. However, it's becoming increasingly likely that they cannot hold on to him forever. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range This has been made clear by The Athletic, who report that Isak has made his intentions clear to never play for Newcastle again, even if he stays at the club this summer. Isak has been training separately from the rest of his teammates on Tyneside and it's clear he wants the move to Liverpool. Newcastle remain reluctant to facilitate this. They have struggled to find replacements for the Swedish talisman and they are yet to accept his departure from the club. The more Isak pushes, the more that acceptance will come. It's already looking like an untenable situation for Newcastle. They simply cannot keep a player who is so dissatisfied with staying at the club.

Hereford continue perfect start with four-goal home victory

HEREFORD Pegasus maintained their perfect start to the Hellenic League Premier Division campaign following a 4-1 win over Lydney Town AFC on Monday night at the KGD Stadium. Pegasus are flying high under new manager Jamie Pitman and took their third win in as many league games. The hosts opened the scoring in the first minute when captain Jordan Williamson met a Harrison Summers cross from the left-hand side of the penalty area at the far post. The lead was doubled after 20 minutes when Summers curled home a low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Pegasus netted again three minutes after the interval when Jack Creswell slotted home from close-range after a good passage of play by the home team around the Lydney Town penalty area. The visitors pulled a goal back after 65 minutes when Kyle Gibbs netted courtesy of a low 20 yard drive. However, Pegasus re-established their three-goal advantage within two minutes of the restart when Summers netted his second goal of the evening with a 25-yard strike to secure all three points. Pegasus are not top due to both Droitwich Spa and Corsham Town having played an additional league match. It was a weekend to forget for Westfields who fell to a 4-0 defeat at Mangotsfield United. United opened the scoring in the fourth minute before scoring a second on 40 minutes, but also seeing a penalty saved before the break. The game then got away from Fields and two further goals came before the death. This weekend only Hereford Pegasus are in league action with a game at Highworth Town, as FA Cup fixtures are also taking place.
