Representational Image JAMMU: A special NIA court has formally framed charges under UAPA against Mian Abdul Qayoom, former president of the Kashmir wing of High Court Bar Association, in connection with the murder of advocate Babar Qadri. "The charges pertain to terrorist act and conspiracy to commit terrorist act," a spokesperson said. "Babar Qadri, a promising young lawyer known for his vocal criticism of the misuse of the Kashmir Bar Association platform, was murdered on Sept 24, 2020, at his residence in Zahidpora, Hawal, Srinagar," the spokesperson said. Qayoom was arrested on June 25, 2024, as the principal conspirator behind Qadri's killing, allegedly by terrorists of The Resistance Front, a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the spokesperson said.

12th batch of Amarnath pilgrims leave from Jammu

Representative image (Picture credit: PTI) JAMMU : A fresh batch comprising 7,049 pilgrims left for Shri Amarnath Yatra amid religious chants on Sunday morning from Bhagwati Nagar in the city. The holy cave shrine is situated in the Himalayas in south Kashmir. 'The pilgrims left for Shri Amarnath cave shrine from Jammu base camp in a fleet of 286 vehicles under tight security cover,' officials said. The 38-day annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine began from two routes on July 3 and is scheduled to end on August 9, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival. The pilgrimage was flagged off by Manoj Sinha , lieutenant governor, on July 2 and, so far, around 2 lakh pilgrims have visited the holy shrine in 11 batches.

Batpora village in Karnah reported five homes destroyed. Many families began fleeing Machil sector after mortar shells struck residential areas around issued an advisory urging public to refrain from sharing content related to troop deployments and security operations.
