'I'm a stuntman first': The haunting incident which led to among Akshay Kumar's noblest initiatives
Besides being a power packed Bollywood superstar, actor Akshay Kumar also has a heart of gold. Akshay Kumar says "I'm a stuntman first and an actor next"(Photo: Instagram) Whilst in conversation with Sonal Kalra, Chief Managing Editor, Hindustan Times (Entertainment and Lifestyle) for the second season premiere of The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, Akshay revealed how a stunt shoot gone terribly wrong for his 1999 film Jaanwar weighed heavily on him, till he decided to do something about it. This came up in context the tragic death of veteran stuntman S Mohanraj. With over three decades of daredevil experience in the Tamil film industry, he died during the filming of a high risk car stunt on the sets of PA Ranjith's Vettuvam. Akshay recounted how an eerily identical stunt was being filmed for Jaanwar, during which the stuntman, whom he recalled to be a young boy, had locked eyes with him and given him an optimistic thumbs up. The car in question however, had flipped over, killing the young stuntman on impact. Akshay recounted how back in the day, there was no such system of insurance for stuntmen, despite the incredibly dangerous nature of their job. In collaboration with heart specialist Dr. Panda and with the permission of the fraternity of stuntmen, Akshay kickstarted an insurance scheme dedicated to the latter, an effort which came to fruition in 2017 and something the actor has been quietly financially supporting For over 6 years. 'I'm a stuntman first and an actor next' said Akshay and this very noble gesture is proof of that sentiment he carries. On the work front, Akshay took to the ramp after 12 years, turning showstopper for Falguni Shane Peacock on day 3 of the currently ongoing Hyundai India Couture Week in Delhi. Enthralling audience with his charisma and unmatched aura. Akshay's regal touch in closing the show ended the night on a high note for all high-profile onlookers. More power to him!

Akshay Kumar is set to reunite with Saif Ali Khan in Priyadarshan's 'Haiwaan', starting production in August 2025. Akshay plays the villain and joked about an unplanned 'trilogy' with films titled Insaan, Jaanwar, and Haiwaan. The film is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit 'Oppam'. Akshay Kumar has many exciting films coming up, like Priyadarshan 's 'Bhooth Bangla', 'Hera Pheri 3', and 'Haiwaan'. In 'Haiwaan', he will work again with Saif Ali Khan after 17 years since their last film 'Tashan'. Akshay said he is happy to work with Saif again and described him as funny. He also mentioned that their humour is different: Saif's humour is typical of South Bombay, while Akshay's comes from Mumbai's suburbs like Andheri and Borivali. He expressed his excitement about working again with director Priyadarshan and collaborating with Saif after many years. Akshay said he is eagerly waiting to start shooting with Saif, whom he described as a very funny person. He also noted a key difference in their humour styles, "He is also a very funny guy. But farak ye hai uska jo humour hai wo bohot hi SoBo hai. Bohot hi South Bombay hai. Aur mera jo hai, wo Andheri Borivali ke side se jaake aage tak jaata hai. Toh dono ka humour jo hai bilkul hi alag hai. (But the difference is that his humour is very SoBo — very South Bombay. And mine is more like it starts from Andheri, goes through Borivali, and beyond. So both our styles of humour are completely different). But it's going to be so much fun shooting with him." Akshay Kumar's Role in 'Haiwaan' and the 'Trilogy' Joke Kumar is reportedly playing the villain in 'Haiwaan'. When asked about the film's title, he humorously remarked that it seems like destiny: first, he did Insaan, then Jaanwar, and now Haiwaan, completing a trilogy of sorts. However, he laughed it off, clarifying that this sequence was not planned intentionally. Haiwaan as a Remake and Production Updates 'Haiwaan', reportedly the Hindi remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Oppam starring Mohanlal, is moving forward in production. Akshay Kumar has an exciting line-up of films, including Priyadarshan's Bhooth Bangla, Hera Pheri 3, and others. He is also set to star in Priyadarshan's next film titled 'Haiwaan', which also stars Saif Ali Khan. This film marks Akshay and Saif's on-screen reunion 17 years after the film Tashan. While speaking with Hindustan Times about reuniting with Saif Ali Khan in Haiwaan, Akshay Kumar said, 'It's great that I am working again with Priyadarshan ji. And the best part is that I'm working with Saif Ali Khan again. After a long time, we are both going to come together. I am actually waiting to start shooting with him. And he is also a very funny guy. ‘Akshay Kumar couldn't remember lines, so we had to use placards': Suneel Darshan says Akshay has ‘lost credibility' because of he lacks discretion
Akshay Kumar has been one of Bollywood's top stars for over two decades. During the early stages of his career, he worked frequently with filmmaker Suneel Darshan. They had a falling out, which Suneel attributed to Akshay's growing stardom. These days, the filmmaker speaks often about his string of success with Akshay, but also doesn't refrain from commening about rumoured extra-marital affairs to Akshay's acting capabilities. In a recent interview, he explained his relationship with the Housefull actor and what he thinks about his film choices and career trajectory. While talking to Vickey Lalwani, Suneel was asked about what kind of an actor Akshay was in the nascent stages of his career, and while the director appreciated some aspects of his personality, he also let the critique flow. He said, 'Akshay was a handsome boy when he came into the industry. During the first phase of his career, which lasted for eight years, he got some recognition and saw some progress as well. Then came a crash, where 13-14 of his films flopped in a row, whether they were made by a big director or not. Akshay is like Mithun Chakraborty; he signs film after film without looking at the filmmaker. During his second phase, because of this restlessness of signing films and doing work, he lost credibility, I think.' ALSO READ: 'Twinkle Khanna couldn't carry a movie on her shoulders, she was not right for Mela': Suneel Darshan had 'no choice' but to give in to Aamir Khan's demands Suneel added that even though many of his recent films have not done well at the box office, Akshay has 'performed well on an individual level; it's just that he displays no discretion while choosing what projects to do.' Talking about casting Akshay in Jaanwar, Suneel said, 'During Jaanwar, I didn't really need Akshay Kumar, because I had a lot of actors waiting on the side who wanted me to sign them. There are two things that I think work for him and also why I signed him: one, that he is damn handsome, and two, that he is very disciplined. I felt that he had that raw potential, and he was always ready to submit himself completely to the director and his vision.' The filmmaker admitted that Akshay sometimes faces problems memorising his lines, but said that this isn't uncommon in the industry. Asked if rumours that Akshay reads his lines off a teleprompter are true, Suneel said. 'It's very good if an actor can memorise his lines, but for him, it was always difficult to remember complete pages of dialogues. It was manageable in the beginning because he was doing less work, but he did have a problem during the later years of us working together. We used to put placards for him to read from, and he is not the first person to do it.' In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, director-choreographer Ahmed Khan also spoke about this. 'Many actors do this. Everyone has their own method. What Akshay does is also a talent. He does so many things physically. While many actors can remember dialogues, but do not give much from their side physically, but Akshay tries to give a lot of things from his side to the film,' he said. In the last five years, Akshay has starred in over a dozen major flops. His last few films were Housefull 5, Kesari Chapter 2, and Sky Force, all of which fell short of the mark considering their big budgets.
