Barn in Wisconsin completely destroyed after fire, estimated damages around $500,000

JACKSON, Wis. (WFRV) – A barn in Wisconsin was completely destroyed from a fire on Tuesday, along with a house on the property suffering exterior damage, with the estimated damages up to an estimated $500,000. According to the Jackson Fire Department, the Washington County Sheriff's Office received a report of a barn fire on Western Avenue in Jackson, and deputies and the Jackson Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Child pronounced dead at hospital after fire in Calumet County, investigation underway Responders went to the scene and saw a large amount of smoke from the fire station, deeming it necessary to upgrade to a Working Still level Mutual Aid Box Alarm System box 12-3-2. The barn was fully engulfed with flames as the fire approached a house about 35 feet away, and command escalated the response to a box alarm. The first engine utilized 800 feet of a large hose to the back of the barn to focus on protecting the house. The quick efforts saved the home, which sustained exterior damage due to high heat, and a dog was rescued from the home by deputies. A secondary grass fire ignited nearby, spreading across the southern portion of Western Avenue. Additional units contained those flames. The barn was unfortunately deemed a complete loss, with all contents and the affected house sustaining an estimated $500,000 in damages. Further investigation revealed that a burn pit used earlier near the barn may have caused the fire as shifting winds carried sparks from the pit and ignited flames. Jackson Fire Department unveils new drone

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)—The Jackson Fire Department has unveiled and tested a new drone to assist first responders. The Department reports the drone was donated by Industrial Steel Treating, a Jackson-based automotive supplier, last year. The company also covered the cost of training for three firefighters. The drone will be used by crews from the City of Jackson and Summit Twp. for firefighting, investigation, searches and rescues. 'It's just another tool that helps us do our job,' said Jackson Fire Department Capt. Shane Green in a news release sent to 6 News. Adding, ' They can be used for firefighting aspects, along with water and ice rescues. The drone can actually detect victims underwater. When looking for missing people with the thermal cameras, you're able to pick up heat signatures of victims. Tim Levy of Industrial Steel Treating says a major industrial fire that occurred last year on Aug. 22 inspired them to take action. This fire destroyed a vacant industrial facility on North St. near Hamilton St. in Jackson. Crews monitor debris, school canceled after massive fire near downtown Jackson 'If we had the drone, we could have thrown it up in about two minutes and gotten a full view of the fire. Plus the drone has the capability to find hot spots,' said Capt. Green in a news release sent to 6 News. 'We wanted to show our support for local firefighters and know when there's a major incident the drone will help the entire community. We're pleased to be a part of that,' said Levy in a news release sent to 6 News. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
