Five children missing as boat sinks in Miami

Three of the five children that were reported missing after a sailboat hit a barge and capsized off the shore in Florida have been rushed to hospital in critical condition. The frightening incident took place on Monday just before noon as rescuers pulled two victims from Biscayne Bay after the sailboat started sinking into the water. Paramedics were seen performing chest compressions on at least one victim while several divers were spotted in the water off Hibiscus Island in Miami Beach. In an update to X around 12.30pm, the Miami Beach Police Department said all victims had been found and accounted for - but the majority of the children were injured. A total of three children were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Trauma Center in critical condition and another was transported there in stable condition, police said. An adult female and another child were also on the boat, but they were not taken to the hospital. Six people - five children and one adult - were onboard. The children are between the ages of eight and 12, according to authorities. The sailboat was part of the Miami Youth Sailing Foundation, according to the Miami Yacht Club. 'Our priority is the safety and well-being of everyone involved, and we are working closely with the appropriate authorities and organizations to understand the situation fully,' the organization said. Ashlee Sklute with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told Daily Mail that 'preliminary information indicates that a barge struck' the vessel, causing it to sink. The Miami Beach Police Department said they were 'managing a multi-agency critical incident' involving several emergency crews. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has since taken the lead on the investigation, the Miami Police Department said in an update around 12.50pm. Daily Mail contacted the Miami Beach Police Department, the City of Miami Beach and FWC for more information.

Dolphins provide encouraging update on injured offensive lineman

The post Dolphins provide encouraging update on injured offensive lineman appeared first on ClutchPoints. Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos got off to a rough start to the team's 2025 training camp. After suffering a frightening injury near the end of the opening practice, Matos was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he has since stabilized. Since being transported, Matos has stayed at Jackson Memorial Hospital overnight for evaluation, where he has now shown movement in all extremities and is in stable condition, the team announced on Thursday morning. There is no word on how long his recovery will take, but his training camp journey is all but over. Matos, 24, is in his third year of trying to extend his unprecedented career journey. After playing college basketball for three years, he switched to football for his final season at South Florida, where he played sparingly in 2022. Matos went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft and has been attempting to establish a professional career since then. While clearly lacking the experience of most prospects, Matos' 6-foot-7 frame, strength and athleticism have kept him on the NFL radar. The 2025 offseason is his second with the Dolphins after spending the entire 2024 season on Miami's practice squad. Dolphins' deep offensive line depth in 2025 training camp With protecting oft-injured quarterback Tua Tagovailoa the team's top priority, the Dolphins invested heavily in their offensive line in the 2025 offseason. Matos was part of their deep offseason positional group, which is expected to remain highly competitive throughout the preseason. Coming off a mediocre 2024 season, Miami added veterans James Daniels, Larry Borom and James Brunskill, in addition to highly touted rookie Jonah Savaiinaea. They added several other intriguing rookie prospects after the draft, including two-time All-Big 10 guard Josh Priebe and first-team All-MAC center Addison West. With five-time Pro Bowler Terron Armstead calling it a career, the Dolphins will endure a lot of turnover in their offensive line in 2025. Miami projects to have three new starters up front in Week 1, depending on how incumbent starting guard Liam Eichenberg fares against Daniels and Savaiinaea in the preseason. Eichenberg is currently on the PUP list with an undisclosed injury and will miss training camp. Woman stabbed at apartment complex near Miami Lakes, MDSO says

A woman was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center after she was stabbed at an apartment complex early Thursday morning, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. They said around 8:45 a.m. a call came in about a stabbing at the Natura Gardens apartment complex at NW 172 Street and NW 94 Court, just west of I-75 near Miami Lakes. When deputies arrived, they found a woman lying on the ground with at least one stab wound, sheriff's investigators said. She was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she is listed as stable. Investigators have focused their attention on a second floor apartment. Sheriff's investigators said the person who stabbed her left the scene before deputies arrived. They added that the woman knows who that person is, but it is unclear what sort of relationship they have.

Dolphins' Matos in stable condition, remains in hospital for observation after training camp injury

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos remained under observation at the Ryder Trauma Care Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital on Thursday, one day after he was transported there by helicopter from training camp with an undisclosed injury. The Dolphins said in a statement that Matos 'has movement in all extremities and is in stable condition,' but they did not provide any other details of his injury. The team also did not say how long Matos would be under the care of doctors. 'It's a really heartbreaking part of the game,' fellow Dolphins offensive lineman Austin Jackson said of the injury, which occurred in the final minutes of Day 1 of training camp. 'Very tough.' The 24-year-old Matos was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and played his college football at New Mexico and South Florida. He was undrafted in 2024 and signed with the Dolphins as a free agent through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, an initiative that gives athletes from countries outside the U.S. a chance to play in the league. Matos, who signed a reserve/future contract in January, had spent time with Miami's practice squad over the past year. Matos only started playing football a few years ago. He grew up playing baseball and basketball, and after moving to Tennessee for high school, popped up on the radar of hoops coaches. Matos wound up redshirting and playing one season for New Mexico before transferring to South Florida, where he continued playing basketball and walked onto the football team. The 6-foot-7, 334-pound Matos started off as a defensive lineman and special teams player before switching to offensive line. ___ AP NFL:
