Clemson running back target Jae Lamar announces commitment to SEC school

Clemson football came up short in the race for one of its top offensive targets. Four-star running back Jae Lamar announced his commitment to Georgia on Wednesday, choosing the Bulldogs over a final group that also included Clemson, Miami, Florida State, and Auburn. Lamar had been a top priority for the Tigers ever since he picked up an offer during an unofficial visit in March. He later became the only running back to attend Clemson's major official visit weekend in early June. The Colquitt County (Ga.) standout is ranked No. 107 overall in the 247Sports Composite and sits at No. 8 among running backs in the 2025 class. As a junior, he rushed for 885 yards and 11 touchdowns on just 112 carries, averaging nearly eight yards per attempt. Losing Lamar is undoubtedly a miss for Clemson, especially considering how much attention the staff invested in his recruitment. He was seen as a key piece of the Tigers' 2025 offensive class, and now they'll need to re-evaluate their options at the position. That said, Clemson might already be in a position to feel confident about the future of its backfield. Clemson Makes Strong Push for Four-Star RB Ahead of May 2025 Official Visit

Four-star running back Jae Lamar, a standout from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia, recently wrapped up a highly anticipated visit to Clemson University, and the Tigers made a strong impression on the talented prospect. Known for his blend of size and speed, Lamar stands at 6-foot and weighs 205 pounds, making him one of the most sought-after running backs in the class of 2026. With offers from major programs like Georgia, Ohio State, Miami, Alabama, and Florida State, Lamar's recruiting journey has already attracted significant attention. During his visit to Clemson, Lamar had the chance to experience the Tigers' renowned football culture firsthand. He was particularly impressed by how the program stands out in every aspect of its operations, calling it a unique experience compared to other schools he's visited. This connection with the Clemson staff and the atmosphere around the program seemed to solidify his interest, as he quickly picked up an official offer from the Tigers during his trip.
