Hyderabad Cricket Association Secretary Arrested In Pune For Misuse Of Funds
The Telangana Police's CID on Friday arrested Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) Secretary Devaraj Ramchander in the case of forgery, cheating, and misappropriation of funds. A CID official said that Devaraj, who was absconding, was arrested from a hotel in Pune and brought to Hyderabad. He was produced before a court for judicial remand. Devaraj was accused number two in the case registered against HCA office-bearers on June 9. He is the sixth accused to be arrested in the case. HCA President A. Jagan Mohan Rao, Treasurer C.J. Srinivasa Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, Sri Chakra Cricket Club President G. Kavitha and General Secretary Rajendra Yadav were arrested on July 9. According to CID, this is a case of forgery of documents for the purpose of cheating and misappropriation of funds, with criminal breach of trust by the accused. Based on the complaint of Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) General Secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy, the CID registered a criminal case under sections 465, 468, 471, 403, 409, 420 r/w 34 IPC. According to the CID, Jagan Mohan Rao, in collusion with Rajender Yadav and his wife Kavitha, created forged documents of Sri Chakra Cricket Club, which was called Gowlipura Cricket Club, by forging the signature of C. Krishna Yadav, the President of Gowlipura Cricket Club. These forged documents were allegedly used as genuine, enabling A. Jagan Mohan Rao to dishonestly gain entry into the HCA as President. "Further, Jagan Mohan Rao colluding with accused persons, C.J. Srinivas Rao, Treasurer and Sunil Kante, CEO of the HCA, and others with malafide intention, criminal breach of trust, misappropriated the public funds, wrongfully restraint IPL SRH officials including claims of intimidation, blackmail over complimentary tickets and access to corporate boxes and threatened with dire consequences," the CID had said in a statement. There were allegations of ticket irregularities during the IPL 2025 season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. The HCA President and other office-bearers had allegedly pressured IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for additional tickets, including tickets for personal sale.

TCA demands immediate annulment of HCA
Hyderabad: Allegingthat the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) election held on 20 October 2023 was illegal, the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) on Monday demanded the immediate declaration of the HCA elected body as null and void. The TCA also called for the rustication of HCA's registration by the State Government and its membership of the BCCI. The TCA has further requested the CID and ED to investigate the role of individuals behind the alleged fraud. Dharam Guruva Reddy, General Secretary of the TCA, stated that the HCA amended Constitution of 2018 does not comply with the BCCI Constitution. He claimed that the HCA deliberately omitted the 'Associate Member' clause from the BCCI Constitution, thus failing to meet membership eligibility criteria. The BCCI Constitution clearly stipulates that institutions falling under the 'Associate Member' category should not possess voting rights. However, according to Reddy, the HCA permitted them to vote, similar to the Railway Promotion Board. He added that, as per membership rules, any representative attending an AGM or SGM should be a cricketer who has played for the respective institution and should be elected by the players' panel of that particular institution or board, rather than being a nominated person. As per Justice Lodha Committee reforms, ministers and government servants are prohibited from involvement in Cricket Board administration or affairs, and IAS and IPS officers are not supposed to attend HCA meetings. However, Guruva Reddy surprisingly pointed out that instead of adhering to the voters' list approved by Justice L Nageshwar Rao committee for the HCA Election held on 20 October 2023, most institutions sent their department heads, who were IAS and IPS officers, as proxies, which he termed illegal. Reddy asserted that approximately 23 institutions voted through individuals or officers not listed in the approved HCA voter list, citing a parallel with Jagan Mohan Rao's actions for Sri Chakra CC. He claimed there was a list of 47 institution clubs that were under immense pressure from then Ministers in the BRS Government—KT Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, and K Kavitha—who 'clearly wanted Jagan Mohan Rao to be elected.' The TCA General Secretary stated that around 155 clubs, institutions, and district associations within HCA do not meet the compliance standards of the Justice RM Lodha Committee. He argued that if three-quarters of the HCA General Body were supposedly disqualified and did not meet compliance, HCA should not be permitted to function with such a 'rotten body.'

HCA President Jagan Mohan Rao held by CID over embezzlement allegations by SRH
Hyderabad Cricket Association president A Jagan Mohan Rao and four others were arrested by the Telangana CID on Thursday in connection with a case of embezzlement, police said. Allegations were levelled against Jagan Mohan Rao and others by the Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2025 IPL season.(PTI File) Besides Jagan Mohan Rao, HCA Treasurer C Srinivas Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, and two others have been arrested, they said. "Five have been arrested over embezzlement of funds, mismanagement, among other charges," a top police official told PTI. The HCA office bearers were taken into custody by the CID on Wednesday following allegations levelled against Jagan Mohan Rao and others by the Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2025 IPL season, police said. Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had ordered an inquiry into Sunrisers Hyderabad's plea seeking intervention of cricket governing bodies to halt the recurring 'blackmailing tactics' by the HCA. HCA, however, denied all such charges by the franchise. In a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council, Sunrisers Hyderabad alleged that the HCA was "threatening" the franchise, primarily for more complimentary tickets (free passes). The franchise also stated that it would consider shifting its home matches to another state if the issue persisted. However, Jagan Mohan Rao had denied all allegations, saying that no such demands were made to the franchise.
