London's legendary Jazz Café has unveiled huge expansion plans for its Camden venue

Over its three decades of life, Camden's Jazz Café has grown into one of London's leading live music venues. As well as platforming rising stars in the genres, the 440-capacity space has played host to countless jazz and soul legends, from Amy Winehouse, Jamiroquai and D'Angelo to Pharoah Sanders, Bobby Womack and Don Cherry. Now, it has ambitions grow even bigger (literally). The Columbo Group, proprietors of other London nighttime venues like Blues Kitchen, Phonox and the Old Queen's Head, has owned the venue since 2016. Earlier this year, it got its hands on neighbouring building 9 Parkway, formerly Malaysian restaurant Mamak Don, 'with the intention of refurbishing and expanding the Jazz Café and its associated functions'. Then in July, Columbo Group submitted a planning application to Camden Council, revealing its plans for the future of the venue. The proposals include internal walls being built inside the restaurant at ground floor and basement level, which will make the space shallower and allowing the Jazz Café to extend into the back of the shop. Those new spaces would then be turned into toilets and a cloakroom, making space for larger artist green rooms in the main venue as well as more storage and back of house facilities that Columbo Group says will 'improve the visitor experience'. The upper floors of No.9 Parkway, currently used as office space, and the front of house shop will stay as they are. In the summary of the application, Columbo Group said: 'The Columbo Group are committed to preserving the life of the Jazz Café and its status as a cultural asset to not just Camden, but London and the UK. To preserve and ensure venues are viable and self sustaining it has meant that many venues have diversified to survive. The Jazz Café remains a vibrant and busy destination venue, but requires investment and adaptation to retain its status. 'While Columbo and their design team are developing proposals for the development of No.9 Parkway, they are keen to ensure the building can be occupied and provide some much needed ancillary space for the Jazz Cafe to help with the day to day operations at the venue.' The Jazz Café's proposed expansion is just one of several big moves happening right now for the legendary venue. The application comes just after Columbo Group put on the second edition of its spectacular Jazz Café Festival and few months after it announced that it would be turning an old art-deco theatre in east London into a new venue named Jazz Café East.

Dua Lipa Surprises Fans by Bringing Out Charli XCX at Sold Out Show

Dua Lipa surprised fans in London on Saturday night by bringing out another British superstar, Charli XCX. Lipa was in the midst of her second of two sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on Saturday, June 21, when she decided to give fans a taste of Brat summer with fellow pop diva Charli XCX. As the stage changed to the colors of Brat green, Lipa announced to fans that she would like to 'bring a friend out," according to fan footage of the concert. 'Let me tell you, she is the biggest brat I have ever known,' Lipa joked. Charli then took the stage as her hit song '360' began playing. Both Lipa and Charli performed the song, belting out the lyrics together to screaming fans. Charli was wearing a cropped white baby t-shirt that tied in the middle, along with green snakeskin short shorts. She paired the outfit with black lace-up boots and sunglasses. Lipa was wearing a white lace bodysuit that covered her entire body with a white fur stole that draped over her shoulder. The two bounced around the stage singing, having the best time. Charli's appearance comes after Lipa surprised fans on night one with the 90s-2000s band Jamiroquai. Dua Lipa's three-night stint at Wembley Stadium marked a major milestone for her, as she filled the massive stadium in her hometown for the first time in her career. 'These were the most special, unforgettable shows I've ever done,' Lipa wrote in a caption on Instagram. 'I'm overwhelmed with gratitude. For this journey. For every single person who's stood by me, believed in me, sung with me, danced with me, and shared in this dream.' The singer got a very special confidence boost ahead of her concerts by the Spice Girls. Lipa shared a photo in an Instagram carousel of the sweet note she received from the iconic pop duo. 'Dear Dua, we just wanted to wish you lots of luck with your sold out shows at Wembley Stadium … that's Girl Power!! We love you! The Spice Girls xxxxx.' How to get last-minute Dua Lipa tickets for Liverpool shows

Buy Dua Lipa tickets Dua Lipa's huge UK stadium tour will wrap up this week with two shows in Liverpool – but it's not too late to grab last-minute tickets. The 29-year-old pop star will perform at Anfield Stadium, the home of Liverpool FC, in support of her latest chart-topping album, Radical Optimism. The gigs follow her recent sold-out shows at London's iconic Wembley Stadium, where she wowed fans with a hit-filled setlist. Charli XCX and Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay both made surprise appearances. The Independent praised her "electrifying" performance in a five-star review, while The Standard called it "a victory lap for the megalithic pop star". Worried about missing out? With a limited number of tickets still left, here's all you need to know about this week's Liverpool gigs. Lipa will bring her globe-trotting Radical Optimism tour to Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June. The few remaining tickets can be bought on Ticketmaster now, with prices starting at £47.30 (minus fees) for seated tickets. Stage times have yet to be confirmed, but doors will open at 5pm and Lipa is likely to finish by 10.30pm. Her support acts will be British singer Alessi Rose and former Disney star Dove Cameron. The hotly awaited dates will be her first shows in Liverpool since 2022, when she was touring her disco-inspired second album Future Nostalgia. The tour coincides with the 10th anniversary of her debut single, New Love, being released. The setlist for Lipa's Wembley shows was dominated by material from Radical Optimism, which was released last year. She played 10 of its 11 songs, including hit singles Houdini, Training Season and Illusion, as she turned the stadium into her own dancefloor. The British-Albanian star performed older hits, such as break-up banger New Rules and her Calvin Harris collaboration One Kiss, both of which topped the UK charts. She also sang disco anthem Dance the Night, her most recent number-one single. It earned an Oscar nomination after being included on 2023's Barbie film soundtrack – with Margot Robbie's character dancing to the track in a memorable scene. It's unclear whether the Liverpool shows will have special guests, as the Wembley gigs did. Lipa performed Jamiroquai's 1996 single Virtual Insanity with Jay Kay on the first night, and teamed up with Charli XCX to sing her hit 360 on the second night. See the full setlist below: Training Season End of an Era Break My Heart One Kiss Whatcha Doing Levitating These Walls Hotter than Hell (Wembley night 1) / IDGAF (Wembley night 2) Virtual Insanity feat. Charli XCX (Wembley night 2) Maria Physical Electricity Hallucinate Illusion Falling Forever Happy for You Love Again Anything for Love Be the One New Rules Dance the Night Don't Start Now Houdini Lipa appeared slightly emotional as she told fans that she was "blown away" to be performing at the national stadium. The London-born singer said: "This is so surreal and so crazy. It means the absolute world to me that you are here tonight. It feels really, really special to be here tonight. "It is 10 years since our first ever London show to about 350 people and I just dreamt of a night like this where I get to be in front of 70,000 people." She took selfies and chatted with fans in the front row, and went through multiple costume changes – at one point appearing in a huge fluffy blue coat lined with the Union Flag. The crowd was also treated to a flurry of confetti cannons and fireworks. Lipa's fiancé, actor Callum Turner, was spotted attending the gig with her family. The singer recently confirmed their engagement, telling British Vogue: "It's very exciting. This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever – it's a really special feeling.' Dua Lipa will perform in Liverpool on 24 and 25 June
