R. Janardhan: The master editor who shaped Kannada cinema for over four decades
In an illustrious career spanning over four decades, R. Janardhan has emerged as one of the most respected and prolific film editors in the Kannada film industry. Having entered the industry in 1978 under the mentorship of renowned editor A. Subhramanyam, Janardhan went on to edit over 200 films across Kannada and Telugu cinema, leaving behind an indelible mark on Indian film editing. His breakthrough came in 1991 with Utkarsha, directed by Sunil Kumar Desai, for which he won the Karnataka State Award for Best Editing a remarkable feat for a debut project as lead editor. This began a successful association with Desai that would yield multiple blockbusters, including Nishkarsha starring Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Nammoora Mandara Hoove starring Shivarajkumar, Beladingala Baale starring Anant Nag, and Sparsha starring Kichcha Sudeep. Janardhan's precision, rhythm, and creative sensibilities made him the go-to editor for both commercial entertainers and experimental cinema. His second State Award came in 1993 for Shhh…, a cult thriller directed by Upendra, followed by a third for Lock Up Death in 1994, directed by Om Prakash Rao. His collaborations with Upendra in the early years—Tharle Nan Maga (1992), Shhh… (1993), Operation Antha starring Ambareesh, and Omkaram (Telugu) starring Rajasekhar—were all box-office successes. Over the years, Janardhan has worked with some of the most celebrated filmmakers in the industry, including Victory Vasu, Vemagal Jagannatha Rao, Anand P. Raju, and Thriller Manju. His expertise also extended to Telugu cinema, where he edited acclaimed films like Sri Manjunatha, directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and featuring Chiranjeevi. Janardhan's editing has enhanced the performances of debutants who went on to become household names—Sai Kumar, Jaggesh, Sudeep—and he has worked with the biggest stars of the South, from Dr. Vishnuvardhan and Ambareesh to Shivarajkumar, Upendra, and Arjun Sarja. The commercial successes he helped craft include Nammoora Mandara Hoove, Prema Raaga Haadu Gelathi, Gandugali, Gajanooru Gandu, and Simhada Mari, cementing his reputation as a 'hit-maker in the edit room.' Janardhan's contribution to cinema has been recognized with multiple awards, honors, and felicitation ceremonies. ‘Police Vari Heccharika is a crime drama with a strong social message'
Police Vari Heccharika , directed by K V Babji and produced by Belli Janardhan,is a crime drama that blends suspense with a strong social undercurrent. The film, which releases today, centres around an activist who secretly masterminds murders using orphans, forcing a lone police officer to uncover the truth before the entire city is deceived. Talking about the film, Janardhan shares, 'This story inspired me a lot. I felt that if you make a movie, it should be like this — useful to society. With this film, we wanted to do something meaningful.' Beyond producing, Janardhan took on an important role in front of the camera, too. A former Army officer turned produceractor, he revealed, 'Actually, I play the role of a villain. Even in the last scene, my character carries a sense of suspense and fear.' The film stars Sunny Akhil , Shubhalekha Sudhakar , Ajay Ghosh and Sayaji Shinde in pivotal roles. Reflecting on his on-set experience, Janardhan spoke about returning to acting after years away. 'I took part in plays and theatre when I was younger. With that experience, I played my character,' he explains. Sharing his initial apprehension about working alongside seasoned actors, he adds, 'My co-stars, especially Ajay Ghosh, helped me get better at the craft. While I was scared in the beginning to work with him, he later complimented me, saying that I acted like a seasoned actor. ' Janardhan says he feels happy about the good response to the music and trailer, which lakhs of people have already watched. 'We've received a lot of love from the audience so far, and I'm hopeful for the film,' he concludes.

NIZAMABAD: In the heart of Telangana, a man has quietly turned his life into an ongoing campaign for the environment. Ravutlla Janardhan, widely known as 'Green Janardhan', is living out a commitment to ecological responsibility that goes beyond words or slogans. Every action he takes reflects his mission to protect the Earth. Born in Mailaram village, Nizamabad, Janardhan has chosen to stay rooted in his homeland while many of his peers have opted to find employment in the Gulf and focus on what he believes is worth nurturing — nature itself. From his small printing press in Pusala Galli, Nizamabad, he runs the Sri Venella Green Society, a group that is leading environmental initiatives across the district. The society is involved in sapling plantations, making seed balls and holding awareness programmes, drawing in students, residents, and officials alike. Janardhan's personal choices echo his mission. He invariably wears green shorts with white trousers, rides a green motorbike and greet everyone with ecofriendly messages in Telugu. He prefers natural, traditional foods. These habits are not for show — they are now part of his identity. Since 2009, Janardhan has taken on the task of increasing green cover in the region. So far, he has planted over 2.5 lakh saplings, prepared 5 lakh seed balls and distributed 50 quintals of seeds in selected areas. He works with the Forest department, educational institutions and communities, taking on the planting and maintenance costs himself while urging people to care for the saplings.

Senior citizen in Bengaluru falls victim to cybercrooks, loses Rs 2.5 lakh
Bengaluru: In yet another incident of cyberfraud, crooks extorted Rs 2.5 lakh from a 70-year-old man. Before the fraudsters could empty the victim's account, the latter managed to put a call across to his daughter, who alerted him, saying he was a victim of cyberfraud and helped him contact the cops. In his police complaint, the victim, Janardhan (name changed), a retired person residing in Vijayanagar in West Bengaluru, said the incident took place between May 20 and May 23. According to him, he received a call from 7779075598, with the caller identifying himself as a police officer from Mumbai. The caller claimed that a SIM card purchased with Janardhan's Aadhaar Card details was being used for illegal advertisements and harassment calls, and that a case had been filed against him at Sahar police station, Mumbai. Purporting to connect the call to a "senior officer", the caller then put Janardhan on the phone line with another stranger who insisted that he ought to come to Sahar police station for interrogation. When Janardhan said he was not involved in any crime and refused to visit the police station, citing his old age, he was threatened with arrest if he stepped out of the house or told anyone about the calls. A person who claimed to be a senior CBI officer then made a WhatsApp video call from 9321599806 to Janardhan and told him that according to Reserve Bank of India guidelines, they needed to verify his bank transactions and for that, he ought to transfer a certain amount to the account numbers provided by him. He was also told that the money would be returned to his account once the verification was done. On May 22, Janardhan was told to go to the bank and transfer Rs 2.5 lakh from his account. Subsequently, he was told to make more bank transfers. It was at that point that Janardhan got in touch with his daughter and shared his ordeal, who helped him call the police helpline and file a complaint. According to a senior police officer, Janardhan filed a complaint on May 24, and a case was registered under the Information Technology Act. The officer also said efforts were on to freeze the bank accounts of the fraudsters. The officer advised people who receive such calls to immediately inform their family members or call the cyber helpline or directly get in touch with the police.

Astrologer arrested from Kalaburagi for defrauding Bengaluru cop
Bengaluru: A 50-year-old astrologer has been arrested for allegedly cheating a police constable of over Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of curing her health issues through various rituals. TOI first reported the case in its May 14 edition. At the time, officials had only said the victim was from a police family. On Friday, they confirmed she is a serving constable. The accused, Hemanth Bhat Janardhan, was nabbed in Kalaburagi after the 33-year-old constable complained. Her identity remains confidential as she continues to deal with health issues and the alleged fraud's trauma. DCP (southeast) Sarah Fathima confirmed the arrest and urged any other victims to contact Adugodi police. A senior officer said Janardhan initially promised to return the money, but delayed appearing before the authorities, prompting his arrest in Kalaburagi. He belongs to a family with a three-generation history in astrology and and has a large local following. He also took Rs 65,000 each from two of her friends for similar rituals. When the victim saw no improvement and asked for a refund, Janardhan stopped responding. Adugodi police subsequently registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 318 for cheating.
