TV travel presenter Jasmine Harman's holiday hacks for last-minute summer getaways
Jasmine Harman, the co-presenter of the Channel 4 series A Place in the Sun: Home or Away? alongside Jonnie Irwin, has shared her top tips for last-minute summer getaways With the UK already basking in a record-breaking heatwave – the hottest June on record – and the majority of schools breaking up for summer next week, families across the country are gearing up for a much-needed escape here in the UK and broad. But if you haven't booked anything yet, don't panic – you're in good company. According to a YouGov survey, 15% of Brits book their summer holidays within the month before travelling. And, I'll be honest, I'm one of them! I've always been a bit of a last-minute planner! Life gets busy, and sometimes you just have to grab the moment. Clearly, I'm not alone. Enterprise Mobility's new research shows that 78% of people in the UK are planning at least one overnight trip this summer, with August shaping up to be the peak month for getaways. So, whether you're planning a family escape to Cornwall, a scenic drive through Scotland, or even heading abroad to explore the South of France or the Spanish coast, here are my top holiday hacks for a stress-free, last-minute escape. 1. Don't over-plan – always leave room for discovery If you're heading to the coast, countryside, or hopping across to Europe, don't feel like you need a minute-by-minute itinerary. Some of the best holiday moments come from spontaneous decisions – a pop-up market, a quiet beach cove, or a quirky museum you spot on the way. Leave space to wander, take detours, and see where the day takes you. 2. Rent a car for flexibility (and space!) If your usual car feels cramped or isn't up to a long journey, hiring a car can make all the difference – especially when you've got kids, beach gear, or grandparents in tow. I've used Enterprise Rent-A-Car for years because it's quick, convenient, and reliable. If like me, you're usually in charge of making sure everything runs smoothly on your breaks, you know the value of stress-free excellent service. That's why I love the flexibility of renting a car – it just gives you options. And on a last-minute trip, that's gold. 3. Pack like a pro – even if you're in a rush Don't waste precious time hunting for suncream or headphones at the airport or petrol station. A bit of prep goes a long way. I always pack reusable water bottles, bin bags for sandy shoes, a portable phone charger, and plenty of snacks. For any last-minute panic-ers, keep a list of everything you need and tick off the items as they go in your case. And when you're at the end of your holiday, it's a great way to check nothing gets left behind. If we're driving, a great playlist is essential – but even on flights or trains, don't underestimate the power of noise-cancelling headphones and a downloaded movie! 4. Be a last-minute legend – spontaneous adventures are the best You don't need to book six months in advance to have an amazing time. In fact, some of the best getaways I've had were planned just days before. With so many travel tools and booking apps now, it's easier than ever to be spontaneous. I know that this comes easier to some of us than others. So, if you're usually planned, booked and packed well ahead of time – why not take a last-minute trip this summer with the only thing on your itinerary being to explore somewhere new? 5. School holiday survival tip: travel smart, not stressed If you're travelling with children, the trick is to move when it's quiet – early mornings or after dinner are often calmer. And always come prepared: audiobooks, travel games, and a 'surprise bag' of little treats can work wonders to keep kids entertained. A happy journey makes all the difference when you're starting a holiday, especially if you're setting off at the crack of dawn.

A Place In The Sun fans stunned as host Jasmine Harman shares rare picture with her husband and two children - but can you see why?
A Place In The Sun fans were left stunned as host Jasmine Harman shared a rare picture with her husband and two children. Jasmine, 49, has been a long-standing presenter of the Channel 4 property show since 2004. The TV star relocated to Estepona, Spain with her family in 2023 after purchasing a Spanish villa. She continues to host A Place In The Sun whilst balancing life in abroad with her husband Jon Boast and children Albion and Joy. Over the weekend, Jasmine shared a photograph with her family beaming at the camera and some fans were shocked by the resemblance her children share with their mother. She captioned the post with, 'Happy summer solstice!' and people rushed to comment. Over the weekend, Jasmine shared a photograph with her family beaming at the camera and some fans were shocked by the resemblance her children share with their mother One penned: 'Omg your son is your double with dark hair.' 'Lovely photo daughter looks a lot like you. Enjoy seeing you on A Place In The Sun,' another chimed in. While others complimented the photo and said: 'Lovely family picture Jasmine.' 'Such a lovely photo,' someone else penned, followed by a heart eye emoji. Another added: 'Beautiful family you have.' The TV presenter previously announced her relocation to Spain on Instagram, describing the move as 'stressful' and 'intense'. 'Life has many ups and downs. Sometimes the hardest things to do, bring the greatest rewards. 'Moving country has been stressful and intense and at times, overwhelming. But now we're here and we plan to make the most of it!' After making the move to the continent, the TV presenter also revealed that she had adopted a stray kitten. She shared on Instagram: 'Family news! We have a new addition! Over the holidays, a friend of ours found a kitten all alone by some bins. 'We have taken her in, she's now called Hazel and she's adapting amazingly to life with a family.' In an interview with Hello, Jasmine explained that she made the move to spend more time with her children, as she felt the years were slipping away in the UK. The TV host explained that there were more opportunities in Span for her two youngsters, and also added that she loved the sense of community in Spain 'Our children mean the world to us. Everything we do is for them. It's about grasping opportunities when you have them,' she added. 'Family is the most important thing and this will give us a much better balance.' Meanwhile, Jasmine recently told the Express about one particularly awful experience she had on the show. Jasmine revealed she once presented an episode which saw a house hunter find their dream home among the options she selected. As fans of the show will know, finding the right property for the buyers - who often have big dreams and a specific vision - is not always a guarantee, so she was elated to have been successful. But it all came crashing down when, as she helped the guest make an offer on the property, Jasmine was told the horrifying news it had already been sold to someone else. Having not previously been informed about this, she said everyone - herself, the buyer and the whole Channel 4 team - was 'crushed'. She explained: 'It was just absolutely awful. 'Can you imagine? You're just on the cusp of making that amazing life-changing decision and someone pulls the rug out from under you. It was horrible.' While the buyer was the one hurt in that particular episode, Jasmine added they can sometimes be the ones who cause the hassle in other cases. The host remembered some particular guests on the show who refused to even step foot inside a property she had chosen for them, in Co Mayo, Ireland. Even after she then pointed out it was the only freehold property within their budget, they still refused to take a look. Jasmine also confessed that it frustrates her sometimes when buyers get obsessive over extremely small details.

I worked on A Place In The Sun - people think it's a dream job but it's seriously difficult and there's even a strict dress code with two sorely-needed items BANNED
A presenter from A Place In The Sun has revealed the more difficult side to her job, including a strict dress code she had to follow. The Channel 4 show helps house hunters find their dream abode abroad. Scarlette Douglas, 38, first appeared on the property programme back in 2015 and has used her expertise to aid many prospective buyers. Despite travelling to many stunning locations and meeting a range of interesting people, working on the show isn't always fun. Scarlette told The Express how A Place In The Sun is actually 'really hard' and five days of filming is put into creating just one '47-minute show'. She also revealed the two sorely-needed items that presenters are banned from wearing. 'There's a lot that goes into it. It's hard work,' the property expert said. She added: 'You can't wear sunglasses or a hat.' The presenter admitted: 'You just about have time to drink some water. You keep going and going and going, so as much as it looks glamorous, it's actually a really difficult show.' Scarlette left A Place In The Sun back in 2022 and has since gone on to feature on another property show, Worst House On The Street. The Channel 4 series sees property developers Scarlette and Stuart Douglas, who are brother and sister, help people transform their family homes without breaking the bank. Another presenter from A Place In The Sun shared her own tale from the show. Jasmine Harman, 49, has been a property expert on the Channel 4 programme since 2004. Over the two decades she has seen a range of holiday homes and plenty of potential buyers find their dream abode abroad. However, she shared one incident that stood out to her and she described as 'awful,' to the Express. The TV star described how she suffered from motion sickness during a ride on a microlight plane in the Algarve. 'We were flying and he was doing all of these little tricks and I got a bit of motion sickness and I started to feel a bit dodgy. I kept telling myself, "I'll be alright, I'll be alright,"' she recalled. Jasmine felt 'so sick' when the plane landed but 'just couldn't get the helmet off'. She added: 'I ended up vomiting inside the helmet. And it was so embarrassing. In front of the house hunters and this handsome pilot. The whole team.' The presenter described it as 'an awful moment' and 'everyone was there,' but she has now laughs about it instead.

I work on A Place In The Sun and will never forget my absolutely awful experience that left the whole Channel 4 team CRUSHED
In her 20 years hosting A Place In The Sun, presenter Jasmine Harman has seen her fair share of chaos. The sun-soaked property search show, first aired in 2000, has had Jasmine as one of its primary hosts since 2004. She has helped hundreds of clients find their dream home abroad on the Channel 4 programme over the years - including her own cousin. And she even made her own big move in 2023, relocating from England to the Spanish town of Estepona with her husband Jon and children Albion and Joy. But things have not always been smooth sailing for the presenter, 49, who recently told the Express about one particularly awful experience she had on the show. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Jasmine revealed she once presented an episode which saw a house hunter find their dream home among the options she selected. As fans of the show will know, finding the right property for the buyers - who often have big dreams and a specific vision - is not always a guarantee, so she was elated to have been successful. She pointed to a recent episode where a couple declared a penthouse unlivable - just because of the cost of re-tiling the balcony, which they hated the terracotta colour of. The presenter said: 'Sometimes people get a bee in their bonnet about weird things.' She tried to give them the advice she forced herself to consider when buying her own property abroad - that buyers always have to make compromises, no matter their budget. When relocating her family to Spain's Costa del Sol, Jasmine did not have the budget for a newbuild - so had to throw herself into renovations to bring her vision to life. The TV personality will share her property transformation journey on a dedicated TV series set to hit screens later this year. Ahead of the big release, she offered prospective buyers an initial word of wisdom - which was not to look for perfection as it does not really exist. She explained: 'You might find a place that's not perfect but will do perfectly.' These confessions are not Jasmine's first chaotic revelations about her two-decade stint on A Place In The Sun. The presenter described last month a particularly 'awful' incident during filming, which saw her suffer motion sickness during a ride on a microlight plane in the Algarve. 'We were flying and he was doing all of these little tricks and I got a bit of motion sickness and I started to feel a bit dodgy', she recalled to the Express. 'I kept telling myself, "I'll be alright, I'll be alright,".' When the plane landed, Jasmine felt terrible - and amid the wave of nausea, she could not get her helmet off. She continued: 'I ended up vomiting inside the helmet. And it was so embarrassing. In front of the house hunters and this handsome pilot. The whole team.' The presenter described it as 'an awful moment' as 'everyone was there' - but she is now able to laugh about it instead.

A Place In The Sun fans claim host Jasmine Harman 'deserves a medal' after string of infuriating snubs from 'absolutely useless and time-wasting' pair
A Place In The Sun fans claimed host Jasmine Harman 'deserved a medal' after a string of snubs from a pair of buyers. Civil servant Lisa, from Liverpool, featured on Thursday's instalment of the Channel 4 show and asked for help finding her dream holiday home in southern Alicante. She was accompanied by her father, Stephen, during the search and property expert Jasmine presented a range of potential abodes. Lisa had a budget of £65,000 and explained: 'I absolutely love Spain, I love the lifestyle I love Sundays where everything shuts down, I'm excited.' She was hoping to find a two-bedroom home that is close to bars and restaurants, not too quiet, is an easy walking distance to places and has access to a communal pool. However, things took a turn during the episode when Jasmine began showing the pair around properties. Of the first apartment, which featured a balcony and was priced at £66,000, Stephen commented that the communal pool 'could be a little bit bigger'. While Lisa said that it had 'potential' and she liked the balcony, she wasn't completely sold due to the size of the flat. Speaking to the camera, Jasmine commented: 'I have a feeling this house hunt might be trickier than I had initially anticipated.' The following properties didn't manage to impress either and Stephen felt the second was too small, while Lisa said the third didn't 'excite' her and pointed out the nearby construction work. In the end, despite being drawn to both the second property and the final one, Lisa decided against making any offers. However, viewers were not impressed by Lisa and Stephen and felt they were negative at times. Some posted on X: 'One of the worst timewasters of late. Absolutely useless.'; 'That's an hour of our lives we won't get back.'; However, some viewers were not impressed by Lisa and Stephen and felt they were negative at times, while another praised Lisa's 'honesty' 'Well blow me down with a feather, they ain't buying! #aplaceinthesun.'; 'Poor poor Jasmine she deserves a medal after putting up with these two. They're definitely just looking for something bad at every property. #aplaceinthesun.'; 'Just drop these 2 back at the airport and get the news on #aplaceinthesun.' While someone else said: 'Love this girl's honesty. #aplaceinthesun.'
