Allan goes wire-to-wire for second Champions Tour win

Australia's Steve Allan has claimed his second PGA Tour Champions title as he became the first wire-to-wire winner of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. The 51-year-old Victorian closed with a six-under 66 for a four-stroke victory. Allan finished at 18-under 198 at En-Joie Golf Course at Enditcott, New York for his second win on the 50-and-over tour this season following his breakthrough at the Galleri Classic in California in March. The first wire-to-wire winner in @DicksOpenGolf history! What a moment for Steve Allan 🤩 — PGA TOUR Champions (@ChampionsTour) July 13, 2025 He opened the tournament with a blistering 63 on Friday for a two-shot edge and had a 69 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Boo Weekley into the final round. After playing the first seven holes Sunday in one under with two birdies and a bogey, Allan birdied five of the next six and parred the last five. "It was tough. It was tough, even yesterday, hanging in there, and today early on it was a bit rough with the driver," Allan said. "In the rough a lot and just managed to hang in there. Then on the back nine, made a few putts." Joey Allan is looking to help his dad win his second event of the year @ would be Steve Allan's second win this season, both with one of his sons on the bag 🤩 — PGA TOUR Champions (@ChampionsTour) July 13, 2025 Jason Caron was second after a 68. Weekley (70) and Notah Begay III (67) tied for third at 13 under. Australia's Michael Wright shot a closing 67 to tie for fifth with Soren Kjeldsen (64) and Jeff Sluman (68). Padraig Harrington wasn't back to try to win for a fourth straight time, skipping the event to play in the Scottish Open. He also has the British Open at Royal Portrush and the Senior British Open at Royal Porthcawl. Ernie Els, in the British Open field, shot 69 to tie for 16th at 8 under.

Jason Caron's daughter takes over Dick's Open as social media guest star

ENDICOTT, N.Y. — The focus of the PGA Tour Champions is usually on the golfers, how they perform and where they stand in the rankings. Jason Caron, however, can add what his 12-year-old daughter, Caroline, is doing in the process. Advertisement The 52-year-old golfing pro is sitting in contention for the Dick's Open title all weekend, currently two strokes behind current leader, Steve Allan. But one guest appearance in a content meeting gave her the opportunity to become the social media star for the weekend — and she's soaked in every bit of it. 'I'm very social,' Caroline said. 'I kind of love being on camera, being the star and the main character vibe. And I love talking to people.' Caroline worked alongside the Dick's Open social media team throughout the Pro-Am and first round, walking up to different pros and asking them all sorts of questions. With a mini microphone in hand, she quickly got creative with each interview and started showing off handshakes she has with some of the pros, too. 'It was really fun seeing all the different players,' Caroline said. 'A bunch of times, like, if I go to see someone, and they'll come up and they're like, 'Hi, how Hi. How are you?' I'm just like, 'Good, how about you?' And like, we'll shake hands, we'll do a fist bump.' Advertisement At one point, she even tried to climb a tree to interview her dad. 'I'm usually very goofy, but like, energetic,' Caroline said laughing. 'I saw the tree and I really felt like climbing, so I did … and I just started talking to him.' Caroline Caron, 12 (in tree), interviews her father, PGA Tour Champions golfer Jason Caron, during the second round of the Dick's Open on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in Endicott, New York. More: Gordon Burns relies on wife as Day One caddie for Dick's Open Caroline doesn't have any social media of her own, but she's fascinated with being on camera. She's extroverted, and will talk to anyone who's willing to strike up a conversation. It even reached a point where Caroline's mom, Liz Janangelo Caron, was stopped along the course multiple times with people telling her how fun it is to be around Caroline. Jason Caron tees off at the 2025 Dick's Sporting Goods Open 'That's her personality, too. You know, she's very outgoing, she likes the limelight a little bit, as you can tell,' Caron said. 'I have to thank Dick's again, for letting her get in there and having some fun. It's been great.' Advertisement Caron said he tries to bring Caroline and his other daughter, Julia, to as many golf tournaments as possible, because it helps keep him relaxed on the course. Caroline also plays golf, though in a more casual setting. She's always the first one to take photos and videos of her dad, too. 'We've been treating it as like a family deal,' Caron said. 'There's nothing better than looking over and seeing your kids.' Caroline has made friends with almost everyone on the golf course and people watching from the cart path. When she does eventually get permission to have her own social media accounts, she said she'll probably bring the same energy she had during her Dick's Open takeover. Caroline Caron, 12, points to her dad Jason's name on the scoreboard at the 9th green after he tied current Dick's Open leader, Steve Allan, on Saturday, July 12, 2025. And she'll still enjoy watching her dad, too. Advertisement 'I really just love to see him play,' Caroline said. 'It's so much fun, especially when he does well.' Steve Allan, Jeff Sluman put together confident first rounds at Dick's Open

ENDICOTT, N.Y. — Red-faced from sweat and a growing sunburn, the 78 golfers participating in the PGA Tour Champions Dick's Open cruised their way through En-Joie Golf Club in overwhelming heat. But the sweltering heat didn't phase anyone's determination to make a good impression on Day 1. Advertisement With a career-best opening round of 9-under-72-par, Steve Allan stands alone as the top performer in the first round of the Dick's Open. Allan sat already 7-under par through the end of the front nine, picking up birdies in five holes and an eagle. He ended his day with two more birdies, including a long putt on the 18th Green to secure the 9-stroke lead. Stephen Allan finished on top of the leader board at 8 under at the 2025 Dick's Sporting Goods Open. The 51-year-old Australian already picked up his first career-Champions win during the Galleri Classic in March, but hadn't cracked the top 10 since taking home the trophy. Now, he's set the pace in a Dick's Open that's open for the taking for the first time since 2021. Advertisement 'I've had a few rough holes, but managed to escape and get out of trouble,' Allan said. 'And then the back nine, I played pretty solid, but not as good as the front.' Allan's bogie-free round made him one of two golfers inside the top 10 that didn't go over par, the other being 52-year-old Jason Caron, who sits in third at 6-under-par. Doug Barron claimed the second-place spot over Caron, sitting at 7-under, after Caron missed his shot for birdie by just inches on 18. Caron's pairing partner, Jerry Kelly, also finished in a tie for third at 6-under. Still, Allan said he doubts he can completely match his top tier performance from Friday afternoon for the rest of the weekend. Instead, he's focusing on his consistency — making birdies across all 18 holes and keeping his tee shots along the Fairway. 'You got to keep your head down and keep going,' Allan said. 'You never know what you're going to do the next day. You never know what the condition is going to be like. It does show that low scores are out there for everyone else. So, you know, if you're going to stay up there and give yourself a chance, you've got to keep making some birdies.' Advertisement More: Dick's Open nets $500K from NY: 'It deserves to grow and thrive' And still playing within arm's reach, Rochester native Jeff Sluman strung together a performance that placed him in the top 10 of the first round. Sitting 4-under-par through the front nine, the 67-year-old held steady through all 18 holes, only bougieing once on 18 to end the day. Sluman is making his 12th appearance in the Dick's Open, and his first since 2022. He played the En-Joie Golf Club when the Dick's Open was the BC Open as part of the PGA Tour. This year's Dick's Open is Sluman's second tournament in nearly a year, since he's been taking time off to accommodate his age. However, he made sure that he got to play in this golf tournament one more time. Jeff Sluman takes a shot from the tee at the 2025 Dick's Sporting Goods Open 'The golf course is magnificent. What a treat,' he said. 'I don't know if everybody realizes what a special treat this is. They have a golf course like this in their backyard, in the condition it is, and the public can go out and play it on a daily basis. This is a rare thing to have in any community.' Advertisement It's the closest thing to a hometown tournament as it gets for Sluman, and he said there's that same homegrown feeling the other golfers relate to. Sitting in the top 10 after 18 holes, Sluman's focusing on maintaining the confidence he had throughout the afternoon. 'It rekindled the fact that I showed that I was a decent player at one time,' he said. 'I really did play well. Today I had the ball absent the tee shot on 18 and the second shot. I mean it was really good. It could have been extremely low, not complaining for under. But it was nice to hit quality golf shot after quality golf shot.' The second round begins at 7:50 a.m., with Allan, Barron and Kelly teeing off at 12:25 p.m. Jerry Kelly, who finished at 6 under for the day, lines up a putt with help from his caddy at the 2025 Dick's Sporting Goods Open With Padraig Harrington playing in the Genesis Scottish Open, Cameron Beckham is the most recent Dick's Open champion participating in the tournament, winning the title in 2021. Despite an eagle on 12, he bougied four times in the opening round to finish 1-over-par. Barron is the other most recent champion in attendance. Advertisement Charles Schwab Cup leader Miguel Angel Jimenez had five birdies and two bogies to finish 3-under-par, sitting in a tie for 20th after the first round. He stayed 2-under throughout most of the day, until he picked up the offsetting birdie on 16 — his second shot from the green. Steve Allan's birdie spurt at En-Joie secures wire-to-wire Dick's Open title

ENDICOTT — Steve Allan won his first Dick's Sporting Goods Open title with a steady final round that included a run of five birdies over the final 11 holes July 13 at En-Joie Golf Club. This is Allan's second PGA Tour Champions victory, following his first title at The Galleri Classic in March. He outlasted Jason Caron in the third round, shooting a 6-under-par 66 to finish the tournament at 18 under. Caron was 4 under Sunday to finish in second at 14 under, and Notah Begay III and Boo Weekley finished tied for third at 13 under. Advertisement Allan put himself in prime position for the title on Day 1 with a round of 9 under, his best on the PGA Tour Champions, and he built on the advantage throughout the weekend. Boo Weekley finished tied for third a day after shaking up the leaderboard. Weekley started Saturday tied for 20th but made an incredible eight-birdie run and was two strokes behind Allan heading into the final round. Charles Schwab Cup leader Miguel Angel Jimenez finished his weekend tied for 20th. Jimenez should still hold the top spot in the rankings despite an imperfect weekend, and has won four titles this year. Advertisement Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen made a run for the title, jumping 26 spots to tie for fifth after shooting 8 under in his final round. His bogey-free round put him as high as third place during the front nine, before the top grouping picked up early back-nine birdies. Club pro Jason Caron among four tied for 54-hole lead at Senior PGA at Congressional

Club pro Jason Caron among four tied for 54-hole lead at Senior PGA at Congressional Can a PGA club professional win the oldest senior major in men's professional golf? Jason Caron, 52, broke par for the third consecutive day on Saturday, shooting 1-under 71 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, to share the 54-hole lead at the Senior PGA Championship. Caron earned his card on PGA Tour Champions this season but continues to split time as pro at Mill River Club in Oyster Bay, New York. Last year, Caron was the Cinderella Story of the Senior PGA, finishing T-4. Asked if a year later, he's become comfortable playing with the likes of Padraig Harrington, who he was paired alongside on Saturday, Caron said, 'A year ago, I definitely would have said, 'Whoa, this can't happen.' Now that I've played, let's just say, maybe 20 events, I feel much more comfortable. I look at it and I go, 'listen, it's going to be what it's going to be. If I play my golf and if I play well, it could finish high up there, and it's happened already.' "I think deep down, I know it could happen. Will it happen? I have no idea. But yeah, I feel pretty comfortable with it.' Major champions Retief Goosen, Angel Cabrera tied for Senior PGA lead It won't be easy against a leaderboard of players who have been there, done that. Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen and two-time major winner Angel Cabrera, who won a senior major just a week ago, were among those tied for first going into the final round, with British Open champ Stewart Cink and LIV's Lee Westwood one stroke back and a group including major winners Harrington, Vijay Singh and Y.E. Yang two back. The 11 golfers on or close to the lead have combined to win 13 major championships. 'All the guys that have really done it on hard golf courses really rise to the top and seem to grind it out more maybe a little bit more than certain players,' Goosen said. 'I certainly grinded it out today.' Caron isn't the only unheralded pro in contention. Phillip Archer, who was winless during his DP World Tour career, is among the 54-hole leaders too, and relishing his chance on Sunday. 'It's why you spend all the time on the range hitting ball after ball to be in this sort of situation and this sort of company and all that stuff,' he said. 'I played a long time on the European Tour, but you've grown up watching these guys win tournaments and majors, and yeah, you're in their company, and you've got to tell yourself you belong there.'
