Colletts head to Kembla Grange chasing midweek success
Jason Collett will travel to Kembla Grange on Tuesday, where he has a number of top mounts waiting. Collett was booked for five rides at the meeting, although the Matthew Smith-trained Runranirun in the Wollongong First Aid Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap (1000m) went around at the same track on Saturday when finishing sixth. The group 1 winning jockey will link with his trainer father, Richard Collett, when partnering Nay Buoy in the Henry Clive Bar Maiden Handicap (2000m), as well as The Professor in the Illawarra Production Services Midway Class 1 Handicap (1500m). 'They both look to be really good chances,' Jason Collett said. 'Navy Buoy is lightly raced, having only had the five starts, but he has been placed in three of them, and he ran well at Kembla at his latest start when running fourth. Loading 'The step-up in distance looks like it should suit him, and he gets his chance.' The Professor has a win and five placings to his name from 12 starts and has finished second and third in each of his latest two starts at Goulburn. 'He's a horse with his share of talent, and he has been racing well,' said the jockey. 'If he can run up to his latest two runs, then there's no reason he can't break through with another win.

Schweida struggling to line up the form in Group 2 Spirit of Boom Classic at Doomben
Brisbane trainer Kelly Schweida is an astute reader of form but even he's battling to read the tea leaves for the Group 2 Spirit of Boom Classic at Doomben on Saturday. Schweida has $9.50 chance Grafterburners in the $300,000 race for two-year-olds over 1200m, with the Team Hawkes-trained Gallo Nero the $4.40 favourite. With the mixture of southern raiders and locals in the 17-horse field, combined with the flighty nature of juveniles, it could be anyone's guess who comes out on top in the Spirit of Boom Classic. Grafterburners has won two of his five races, including an impressive last-start victory two months ago in the $500,000 QTIS Jewel 2YO (1200m) on the Gold Coast. Before that he placed fourth in the $2m Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Randwick behind Rivellino and Within the Law, which went on to finish runner-up to Nepotism in last month's Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at the same track. 'It's all different form when you go through there,' Schweida said. 'Magic Millions form is different to that, there's Kindergarten (Stakes) form. 'It's all very hard to line up. It's nearly impossible when I do the form and I do a lot of form.' With regular rider Cejay Graham suspended, Schweida has turned to Sydney jockey Jason Collett to steer Grafterburners on Saturday. 'He's got a bit of an awkward gate (11) and who knows what the track is going to be like,' Schweida said of his star colt,' Schweida said. 'I'll be shocked if the track's not a Heavy 9. It's a Soft 7 now (Friday morning) and the forecast is for more rain. 'Some of those two-year-old horses have jumped out of the woodwork. 'It's a pretty handy field. The favourite (Gallo Nero) ran third in the Magic Millions (2YO Classic), you've got Chris Waller's horses (United States and Kilman). It's a pretty hot race.' Grafterburners is nominated for the $1m Group 2 Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) on May 31 and the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 14, two of the richest juvenile races in Australia, at Eagle Farm. 'It's trial and error. You'd think he can get to 1400m and a mile but you don't really know until you get there,' Schweida said. The trainer continues to be astounded by the strength of this year's Queensland winter carnival, pointing to his talented mare Miss Joelene being $4.40 in the Listed Brisbane Handicap (1600m) late last month before her odds skyrocketed for the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast. 'Miss Joelene was in a Listed race the other day and she was the $4.40 second favourite,' he said. 'Two weeks later she's $34 in the Hollindale (where she finished fourth on a heavy track). 'You think you've got some pretty good horses until the opposition comes.'

Pinito on track for Queensland Oaks after Gold Coast Bracelet win
Godolphin filly Pinito stamped her Queensland Oaks credentials with an impressive victory in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) on a heavy track on the Gold Coast on Saturday. The James Cummings-trained filly and Ciaron Maher's Amplify ($23) slugged it out in the straight before Pinito surged away in the final 100m, with Sun Worshipper ($26) a distant third. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'It was a great effort in the end, because she didn't really want to go early,' winning jockey Jason Collett said. 'I had three sets of goggles and a visor. 'It was very difficult to see but I knew I was on the back of the right horse. We got a good drag into the race and we were able to flow into it. 'Early on you probably wanted to be on the fence, but as the day dragged on you wanted to get away from the inside part of the track. It's very, very wet out there now.' The last race of the day, the 1000m Bat Out Of Hell, was abandoned as rain fell on the Gold Coast track, which was rated a Heavy 10 late in the nine-card meeting. Pinito will likely run in Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben in two weeks before the $700,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 7. Stable representative Lester Proctor described it as 'a beautiful win' on a bottomless track. 'She always tries her hardest in every race,' Proctor said. 'It worked out perfectly for her despite the conditions, which she handled well. 'She's most likely to press on to the Roses and the Oaks, that would be the plan at this stage.' Australian Trainers' Association boss Cameron Partington said the Bat Out Of Hell would likely be run now at Ipswich on Wednesday, with all scratchings reinstated. 'It will be free to scratch from this race due to the rescheduling, and horses from this race are also able to nominate into any Queensland race not already accepted (Ipswich),' he said. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ In-form Floozie nabs third in a row – Ben Dorries Champion Queensland trainer Tony Gollan may have unearthed a Group 1 Tatt's Tiara contender as in-form mare Floozie snared an important black-type win and made it three wins on the bounce since coming to Queensland. Floozie, a four-year-old daughter of Zoustar, was formerly trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr in Victoria and hasn't been beaten since arriving at Gollan's Eagle Farm stables. Her triumph in the Listed Silk Stocking (1400m) on the Gold Coast was her third in succession since making Queensland her home. Floozie, on the seven-day back-up from scoring at Eagle Farm, was a late drifter in betting from $2.50 to $2.80 with punters seemingly unsure where she would be in the run on a Gold Coast track which was favouring those up front. But jockey Angela Jones showed clear intent from a wide gate and had Floozie outside the leader and the mare kicked on strongly for a determined win. The stakes win ticks a big box for the trainer and for connections but Gollan will think about potentially setting Floozie for some much bigger fish to fry – the Group 1 Tatt's Tiara towards the end of the Queensland winter carnival. 'There's still improvement there with her, we hope to get her into the Tatts Tiara but there's a bit of water to go under the bridge between now and then,' Gollan said. 'There's obviously a track pattern unfolding, but coming here I was pretty keen on her with the light weight today. 'I didn't know if we wanted to be up outside the leaders, but a few others didn't step as well as she did or show as much intent. 'Angela Jones has got a great knack of getting her horses to begin well and move them into a great spot. She's going through the grades very nicely, and I've been very confident that we could get her to Stakes grade at some point.' Floozie's win in the $160,000 race continued Gollan's happy knack of getting the best out of new stable acquisitions. The fun wasn't over there for Gollan as Rockribbed made it two consecutive wins when he led for home and wasn't for catching in the Listed ATC Trophy (1200m). Rockribbed started $8.50 and his task was made easier when $2.50 favourite Need Some Luck was slow out before storming home for second. Apprentice jockey Emily Lang scored her latest Stakes win and the Brisbane premiership leader further cemented her standing as one of the nation's most talented young jockeys.
