Railways gears up to manage pilgrim rush at stations during Shrawan

Patna: As pilgrims have started pouring in groups at Patna Junction and other key stations during the holy month of Shrawan, Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) has rolled out a comprehensive contingency plan to manage the expected surge in footfall at these stations. According to Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM), Jayant Kumar Choudhary, the railways has taken steps to ensure smooth operations and the safety of passengers. A large number of additional railway officials have been deployed at the Patna Junction to monitor the crowd, he said, adding that CCTV cameras are fully operational on all platforms allowing real-time surveillance of the station premises. In addition, a dedicated control room has been set up at the Patna Junction to oversee and regulate pilgrim movement, particularly during peak hours. The railway officials have been tasked to coordinate closely with other departments to avoid congestion and ensure quick response in case of any emergency, the DRM said. To bolster security, railway protection force (RPF) personnel have been directed to keep a close watch on suspicious activities and potential miscreants. Passengers' luggage is being screened using advanced scanning machines at entry points at the Patna Junction to prevent any security lapses, the DRM said, adding Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Patliputra Junction and Danapur stations have also been put under close surveillance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Zunido no ouvido? Vande Bharat incident: Railways to deploy safety measures along tracks

1 2 3 4 5 Patna: The recent tragic dead of a local resident after being hit by semi-high-speed Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express on Nawada-Kiul route under Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) has once again brought attention to the urgent need for safety measures along railway tracks in Bihar. The 50-year-old man died in an attempt to save his two buffaloes that had strayed onto the tracks on Monday. This unfortunate incident has intensified demands from local residents, activists and public representatives to take preventive steps, particularly in rural and vulnerable areas where railway tracks pass through open fields or densely populated villages. "Introducing modern trains like Vande Bharat is a step forward towards connectivity, but safety must move forward too. Barricading vulnerable sections near villages and grazing areas is critical, especially where people and livestock regularly cross tracks," a social activist of Danapur, Pradeep Priyadarshi, said, adding that in states like Bihar, encroachments and unauthorised crossings are common. Talking to this newspaper on Wednesday, Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary said that the Railway Board had sanctioned a proposal to erect fences along DDU-Patna-Jhajha and Patna-Gaya routes of the division. The railways would build hard concrete boundary walls through thickly inhabited areas, while regular metallic crash barrier-type fencing would be erected in other stretches, he said. However, fencing all along railway tracks is a prerequisite requirement for high-speed trains running at 160km per hour. The board has sanctioned Rs 600 crore in the current budget for this work, which includes the construction of road over bridges and road under bridges at all vulnerable places in the division, the DRM said. The railways have started taking precautionary steps along vulnerable places by sealing them to prevent stray animals from coming on tracks, as well as checking trespassing in railway areas through which semi-high-speed trains pass daily, said Sonepur DRM Vivek Bhushan Sood.

25% surge in unreserved ticket sales in June: Rlys

1 2 3 4 5 6 Patna: An intensive ticket-checking drive conducted across the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) in June has begun to show results, leading to a 25% surge in ticket sales through the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) in the month. According to Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary, the intensified ticket-checking drive conducted during June led to the penalisation of 51,644 passengers who were found travelling without valid tickets. The crackdown resulted in the collection of fines amounting to Rs 3.50 lakh, he said. "The objective behind the drive was not just to penalise offenders, but to instil a sense of responsibility among daily commuters and casual passengers. This has evidently led to an increase in the number of passengers purchasing proper tickets before boarding either long-distance or short-distance passenger trains in the division," the DRM said. Danapur senior divisional commercial manager (Senior DCM), Abhinav Siddarth, said on Monday the railways has already introduced the UTS mobile app and automatic ticket vending machines (ATVM) across major stations of the division to reduce congestion at general ticket booking counters. These digital facilities allow passengers to conveniently purchase unreserved tickets without standing in long queues, he said. Similar inspection drives will continue in the future, he said.
