Jeep, Genesis, Winnebago among over 125,000 vehicles recalled: Check car recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued multiple recalls last week, including notices for over 120,000 Jeep vehicles. Are you looking to see if any recalls were issued on your vehicle? If the car isn't listed below, owners can check USA TODAY's automotive recall database or search NHTSA's database for new recalls. The NHTSA website allows you to search for recalls based on your vehicle identification number, or VIN. Here's what you need to know about the vehicle recalls published by NHTSA from July 21 to July 27. Chrysler recalled certain 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles as they may have second-row seat head restraints do not lock in the upright position. The suspect restraints contain an internal locking mechanism with an interference condition, which may prevent the headrest from locking upright, according to the recall report. Dealers are to inspect and replace second-row seat head restraints, as necessary, for free. Owner notification letters are to be sent Sept. 5. Affected vehicles: 121,398 More car recalls: Ford has issued over 30 recalls since late May. See if your car is on the list. The error can affect the speedometer, fuel gauge and other dashboard alerts. The instrument panel display software can be updated over-the-air or by a dealer for free. Notification letters are to be sent Sept. 15. Affected vehicles: 4,754 Winnebago recalled certain motorhomes for a potentially faulty seat mechanism. The recalled motorhomes may have supplemental restraint system wires that can be caught in the mechanism when the driver or passenger seats are adjusted. The recall covers: Dealers are to inspect and re-route the wiring for free and notification letters are to be mailed Sept. 19. Affected vehicles: 2,119

More than 120,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees recalled over faulty passenger headrests

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 121,398 Jeep Grand Cherokees over faulty second-row headrests that may not lock in the upright position, increasing the risk of injury to passenger, according to a recall notice posted Wednesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "A head restraint that is folded forward may increase the risk of injury to seat occupants in certain types of crashes," the notice states. The recall affects certain 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. To fix the problem, owners of recalled vehicles can take their Jeep Grand Cherokee to their local dealer, who will inspect and if necessary replace both second-row seat head restraints for free. Vehicle owner notification letters will be mailed on Sept. 5. Owners may contact customer service at FCA US (also known as Stellantis North America) at 1-800-853-1403. Stallentis' number for this recall is 20C. Owners can also contact the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171), or go to NHTSA's number for the recall is 25V-472. Stellantis also recalled more than 63,000 Jeep Cherokees in January because of a defect that causes the vehicles to lose power and impede parking.

Chrysler has recalled over 120,000 Jeep SUVs because of a head restraint issue that could lead to driver and passenger injuries. Owned by Stellantis, the same company that owns Jeep, Chrysler announced the recall on July 17. The recall includes 121,398 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles released in 2023 and 2024. According to Chrysler, the second-row seat head restraints may not lock in the upright position. 'Head restraints that do not lock can result in an increased risk of injury to seat occupants during a crash,' Chrysler said in its announcement on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. What's the breakdown of vehicles impacted? According to the car manufacturer, the recall includes: The NHTSA campaign number is 25V472000, while the manufacturer's recall number is 20C. The latest recall news: USA TODAY's recall database What's the resolution? According to Chrysler, dealers will inspect and replace both second-row seat head restraints for free. The company plans to notify dealers by July 24 and owners by Sept. 5. Owners can contact Stellantis customer service at 1-800-853-1403 using recall number 20C. How did the recall come about? According to the car manufacturer, the impacted vehicles were built with second-row head restraints that contain an internal locking mechanism. If there is interference, this mechanism may prevent the headrest from locking upright. The vehicles were produced from May 16, 2023, to May 2, 2024. The car manufacturer's parent company launched an investigation in August 2024 and spent the next nine months meeting with engineering teams to determine which vehicles had been impacted.
