'Cooler Heads Should Prevail' In Commanders' Terry McLaurin Contract Saga
'Cooler Heads Should Prevail' In Commanders' Terry McLaurin Contract Saga originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders appear to be just fine with letting Terry McLaurin's contract situation dominate the headlines when it has no reason to. With McLaurin publicly stating how frustrated he was with negotiations with the franchise, McLaurin has already held out of OTAs and minicamp as he searches for a new deal. Some think he could be traded away (we don't see it), and with training camp just around the corner this week, it looms as a line-in-the-sand moment for Terry, considering he'll be fined for not attending. For ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on "SportsCenter" on Saturday, McLaurin won't be anywhere other than Washington in 2025. "The wide receiver market has jumped into that $30 million range," Fowler said. "My sense is McLaurin feels Washington hasn't really been willing to acknowledge that. So if they're not, it's almost like he's taking a pay decrease because he's a year from free agency. Cooler heads should prevail. They want McLaurin there. They're not trading McLaurin. That was made clear to me from a source of the team." Hmm. They want McLaurin, but only want him on their terms. Sounds about right. For a player who has given everything to the franchise in its darkest times and was the ultimate professional and has established himself as a star in the league, it seems more than reasonable for McLaurin to ask for what he's reportedly asking for. A deal worth roughly $30 million APY is more than fair, yet the Commanders seem content to let this thing play out. Washington has a little over $21 million in cap space, so a few restructures are all it would take to get a deal done. The longer this goes on, the more sour it becomes, and for a team that has Super Bowl ambitions, not having its No. 1 weapon for a full preseason is problematic. But the Commanders only have themselves to blame. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 20, 2025, where it first appeared.

Broncos' Quinn Meinerz ranked 8th among NFL's best interior offensive linemen
Denver Broncos players have gotten a lot of honorable mentions from NFL employees this offseason. Each summer, ESPN Jeremy Fowler interviews NFL executives, coaches and scouts to have them rank the top 10 players at 11 positions going into the next season. Denver's players who were named honorable mentions on this year's lists include pass rusher Nik Bonitto, defensive lineman Zach Allen, safety Brandon Jones and tight end Evan Engram (additionally, safety Talanoa Hufanga made the "also received votes" category at his position). Finally, the Broncos have their first player to make the top ten at his position: guard Quinn Meinerz. After getting an honorable mention nod last year, Meinerz is ranked eighth among interior offensive linemen this offseason. At least one NFL staffer had him ranked second among IOL. "He's gone from D-III to a top-two-to-three OG," an unnamed NFL personnel director told ESPN. "He has learned that he doesn't have to destroy people every play. He's athletic and strong enough that if he plays controlled, the losses will be few and far between." Elsewhere on the offensive line, Garett Bolles made the "also received votes" section among offensive tackles. Meinerz undoubtedly won't be the last Denver player to make the top ten, as the cornerbacks list is set to be published by ESPN on Thursday, and it would be an upset if cornerback Pat Surtain is not at the top. Arizona Cardinals to face many top QBs in final stretch of 2025 season
The Cardinals will face 4 of the top 12 QBs in the NFL five times in their final six games. As NFL training camp approaches for most NFL teams (the Los Angeles Chargers reported on Saturday), sites continue to publish lists, rankings and predictions. ESPN has been revealing player rankings at different positions, but with a twist. They are based on the votes of coaches, scouts and executives. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler revealed the rankings for quarterbacks — the top 10 and a pair of honorable mentions. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray did not make the top 10 and did not receive honorable mention, but he did get top-10 votes. The Cardinals avoid most of the league's top quarterbacks in 2025. They will face just three of the top 10, although they will face one twice. They will also face both honorable mention quarterbacks. NFL top-10 QBs: Arizona Cardinals opponents in 2025 The Cardinals' schedule gives them their toughest quarterback gauntlet late in the season. They will face four of these quarterbacks five times in their final six games. Of course, it is notable that Mayfield has not beaten Murray in their head-to-head matchups so far.
