PAPAR: A 42-year-old man died after being electrocuted while picking mangoes in Kampung Bambangan, here, Sunday. According to Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson, a team of eight personnel led by Fire Station Chief Rozlan Osman rushed to the scene after being notified at 3.01pm. Advertisement Upon arriving the scene, he said the team carried the victim down from the tree in which he was carrying out his mango picking activity. Based on information from the public, he also said that the deceased was using a metal pole to pick mangoes from the tree but accidentally which accidentally touched a nearby electric cable which led to the electrocution. 'The team brought the victim down with ladder and rope after the electricity was turned off by Sabah Electricity. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Department officers, and the body was handed over to the police for further action,' he added. One killed, two injured in Papar crash

PAPAR: One man was killed and two others injured in an early morning crash involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a lorry along KM16, Jalan Papar–Bongawan on Thursday. District Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the 4.48am incident occurred when the MPV, driven by a 35-year-old man, lost control and veered into the opposite lane. The vehicle, which was heading towards Membakut from Papar with two passengers onboard, collided with the front right side of an oncoming lorry. The 66-year-old backseat passenger sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. PAPAR: One was killed while another two injured following an accident involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a lorry along KM16, Jalan Papar-Bongawan, here, Thursday. District Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the incident occurred at about 4.48am when the MPV, driven by a 35-year-old, skidded out of control into the opposite lane while traveling towards Membakut from Papar with two passengers. 'Upon entering the opposite lane, the victims' vehicle crashed to the front right of an upcoming lorry. 'Following the impact, the back passenger who was a 66-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his head and was pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene,' he said. Kamaruddin said the driver sustained injuries to his leg while another passenger, 25, was left with minor injuries. Both injured were given first aid treatment by Fire and Rescue Department personnel while the deceased was sent to Papar Hospital for further action, he added. Kota Kinabalu: Making a comeback, Evanatie Sannie, was crowned City Hall Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan queen at Imago Shopping Mall, here, Saturday. Evanatie was previously crowned Kota Marudu Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan in 2022 and won sixth place in the State-level that year. The 24-year-old businesswoman from Kampung Batutan, Kota Marudu took home RM12,000, a crown and trophy. She will be representing City Hall in the State Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan event. She was crowned by last year's City Hall Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan queen, Nurul Yanadido. Meanwhile, Cherub Sharleena Cassdey won second place will be representing KDCA Tanjung Aru while Nelumui Muhari who was second runner-up will be representing KDCA Bandaraya. The first runner-up won RM8,000 while the third place bagged RM6,000. Advertisement The 2025 DBKK Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan Grand Final was officiated by the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew. Earlier in her speech, Liew said the Kaamatan celebration displays the solidity of Sabahans – that comprise of diverse community – that chooses to celebrate their differences as strength and not a hindrance. She said that the existing mutual cooperation, respect and acceptance among Sabahans makes the State (even more) unique and admired, whether among Malaysians or internationally. 'As Sabah's Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, I see Kaamatan not only as heritage, but also as a cultural economic resource, which opens up opportunities for artists, creative communities, local entrepreneurs and heritage practitioners,' she added.
