One killed, two injured in Papar crash

PAPAR: One man was killed and two others injured in an early morning crash involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a lorry along KM16, Jalan Papar–Bongawan on Thursday. District Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the 4.48am incident occurred when the MPV, driven by a 35-year-old man, lost control and veered into the opposite lane. The vehicle, which was heading towards Membakut from Papar with two passengers onboard, collided with the front right side of an oncoming lorry. The 66-year-old backseat passenger sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Trapped driver injured in two-vehicle crash in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: A man sustained serious injuries after being trapped in a collision involving two vehicles in Kg Tambilaung, here, on Saturday. In the 8.55pm incident, a 53-year-old Wal Belah, who was driving a Proton Wira was reportedly suffered injuries to various parts of his body. Another man, aged 33, who was driving a Perodua Bezza, was also injured but was rescued by members of the public at the scene. Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Elge Bakuk said the station received an emergency call at 9pm regarding the incident. 'A total of nine personnel were deployed to the scene with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle. 'Upon arrival, firefighters found one victim trapped in the front seat of the Proton Wira. The team used specialized equipment to extricate the victim,' he said. Elge said the injured driver was then handed over to the Ministry of Health (KKM) personnel and transported to Kota Belud Hospital for further treatment. 'The fire team also inspected both vehicles and the surrounding area to ensure there were no additional hazards. Rider killed in freak accident in Penampang

City police chief ACP Kasim Muda said the accident occurred around 2am near 88 Commercial Centre as the rider was heading towards Jalan Lintas. Initial investigations found that the Yamaha Y15ZR rider lost control and veered left before falling into a 10-metre concrete drain. The impact caused the rider to be thrown into the drain and he was pronounced dead at the scene due to serious head injuries. ‘Shoddy work by cops' claim

Kota Kinabalu: The investigation paper submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers on the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir is incomplete, according to a joint statement by the family's legal counsels. 'In light of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement that the investigation paper concerning the death of Zara Qairina binti Mahathir ('Zara') has been submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers, we wish to clarify the following matters regarding the clothing and personal items Zara was wearing when she was found outside the school's hostel building at dawn on July 16, 2025. 'From July 17, until today, the police have never collected nor requested any of these items from our client for the purpose of investigation. 'Therefore, we believe that the investigation paper submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers is incomplete,' according to Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri who represented Zara's mother. According to them, all of Zara's clothing and belongings were handed over to her mother by hospital staff on July 16. These items, they said, are currently in the custody of a representative of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), who has been officially appointed as the sole representative of Zara's mother. 'We are deeply shocked by this, as in our experience handling criminal trials in court, it is standard procedure for police to seize all items worn by a victim suspected of having died as a result of any criminal act, for the purpose of investigation. 'These clothes and personal effects are crucial pieces of evidence that should have been forensically examined and analysed to determine whether Zara's death involved any criminal elements,' said the counsels. They added that the police's failure to do so raises serious concerns as to whether the investigation has been limited solely to the theories of sudden death or suicide despite multiple police reports lodged by Zara's mother requesting investigation into possible criminal elements in her daughter's death. 'Furthermore, no post-mortem was conducted prior to Zara's burial.
