Trapped driver injured in two-vehicle crash in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: A man sustained serious injuries after being trapped in a collision involving two vehicles in Kg Tambilaung, here, on Saturday. In the 8.55pm incident, a 53-year-old Wal Belah, who was driving a Proton Wira was reportedly suffered injuries to various parts of his body. Another man, aged 33, who was driving a Perodua Bezza, was also injured but was rescued by members of the public at the scene. Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Elge Bakuk said the station received an emergency call at 9pm regarding the incident. 'A total of nine personnel were deployed to the scene with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle. 'Upon arrival, firefighters found one victim trapped in the front seat of the Proton Wira. The team used specialized equipment to extricate the victim,' he said. Elge said the injured driver was then handed over to the Ministry of Health (KKM) personnel and transported to Kota Belud Hospital for further treatment. 'The fire team also inspected both vehicles and the surrounding area to ensure there were no additional hazards. One Instagram user said the act lacked basic dignity, while others on Threads tagged police and regulators, urging action over the so-called 'social experiment.' In response, one of the content creators claimed the man had agreed to participate and had also been given a proper meal off-camera. Police warn of possible scams targeting Sara recipients
KUALA LUMPUR: The public has been urged to be cautious of scam syndicates which might take advantage of the RM100 assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme, which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced. Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said authorities expect these syndicates to become active again, targeting the public to obtain personal and banking information under the guise of verifying aid eligibility. These syndicates typically impersonate government agency representatives by contacting victims through fake messages or phishing links that appear official, sent via SMS, WhatsApp, or phone calls. "Once the criminals obtain details such as bank account numbers, identity card numbers or OTP codes, they will access the victim's account and transfer funds without the victim's knowledge," he said when contacted today. Although no police reports have been received so far involving scams linked to the programme, the authorities take seriously the potential for exploitation by irresponsible parties targeting vulnerable groups. As such, Rusdi advised the public to remain vigilant and never share any personal or financial information with unknown individuals. "Do not easily trust calls, messages, or links claiming to be from government agencies offering assistance. Never click on suspicious links or enter personal information on unverified websites," he said. Rusdi added that all matters relating to government aid, such as the SARA programme, should only be referred through official channels, including ministry or agency websites managing the aid. "The public is also advised to carefully check application terms, eligibility and implementation details before taking any action," he said. He noted that a small mistake like sharing an OTP code could lead to losses, and urged the public to only seek accurate and updated information through official government portals or recognised mainstream media. On July 23, Anwar announced a one-off RM100 cash aid for all Malaysians aged 18 and above via their MyKad under the SARA programme, involving a RM2 billion allocation benefiting 22 million people. The assistance can be used from Aug 31 to Dec 31, 2025 and is aimed at easing the people's cost of living. – Bernama

Ahmad Maslan upset over poor maintenance of Telupid-Sandakan road

He said that although the road formed part of the Pan Borneo Highway project, the contractor was still responsible for its maintenance, as stipulated in the contract. 'Under the contract, they (the contractor) are required to maintain the road in areas where the highway is under construction and ensure it remains in good condition, not in its current poor state. 'Yesterday evening, I travelled along the road in Work Package 29 from Moynod to Sapi Nangoh. I was disappointed and upset to see its condition. It's causing inconvenience to the people. This project should make life easier for the people, not cause them distress,' he said. He said this to reporters after inspecting the progress of the Naval Region 2 Headquarters (MAWILLA 2) jetty construction project here today. Ahmad also shared that during his trip to Sandakan yesterday, his bodyguards had recorded four videos showing the damaged road conditions, which were later forwarded to the Works Ministry's top management. He said three stretches along the route had drawn public complaints due to poor maintenance, namely, Jalan Sandakan Batu 32-Moynod (WP28), Jalan Moynod-Sapi Nangoh (WP29), and Jalan Sapi Nangoh-Sungai Baoto (WP30). Ahmad said he had instructed the Public Works Department to conduct regular site visits to monitor the progress of the Pan Borneo Sabah Highway Phase 1A project and observe the difficulties faced by road users, with verbal or written warnings to be issued to the contractors involved when necessary. He stressed that the Works Ministry could appoint a third party to carry out maintenance on damaged roads caused by the construction of the Pan Borneo Sabah Highway Phase 1A if the contractor failed to do so, with the cost to be deducted from the contract value. 'For example, if the cost of repairs is RM5 million and the main contractor was awarded a RM300 million contract, the contractor would only receive RM295 million, while RM5 million would be paid to the third party,' he said.
