Deputy Minister for Transport, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, made the announcement during the event held at Kampung Segu Benuk in Padawan on Monday, highlighting the festival's strong potential as a community-driven tourism initiative. 'Last year, the parade featured only six contingents. This year, the number has increased to 21, with an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 participants, a clear indication of its growing appeal,' he said, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas). Dr Jerip said the event, organised by the Segu Bunuk Association, will continue to be refined and expanded based on community participation and public response. 'With the involvement of 21 contingents this year, we are confident the festival will continue to grow, offering even more vibrant and engaging activities in the years to come,' he added. The Mambong assemblyman also underscored the importance of such cultural events in promoting Sarawak's heritage to tourists, positioning them (the cultural events) as competitive cultural tourism products. 'These celebrations provide an important platform for local communities to express their identity, particularly through traditional attire and a shared sense of cultural pride,' he noted. Among those present at the event were Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin; Special Administrative Officer of the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), Datu Ik Pahon Joyik; Administrative Officer of the Padawan Sub-District Office, Julius Scott Sapong and other distinguished guests.

The deputy minister said, despite the change in ownership, the RAS network which serves remote and underserved areas in Sarawak and Sabah, is expected to maintain its current schedule, frequency and coverage. Advertisement 'MASwings' entire workforce will be retained, and their experience will be instrumental in maintaining operational stability and service continuity during and after the transition,' he said. Responding to Wong's supplementary question, Dr Jerip said the current interim RAS agreement between the federal government and MASwings Sdn Bhd that was signed on Dec 19, 2024, will remain in force until its expiry this Dec 31. Meanwhile, Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the state, together with AirBorneo, is engaging with the Malaysia's Transport Ministry, relevant federal agencies and other key stakeholders to work out on the terms and conditions of a new RAS agreement. 'This agreement includes that the Federal government continues to subsidise RAS because there will be new terms and conditions with AirBorneo,' he said when met by reporters at the sidelines of the sitting. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Photo shows the final livery design selected for the ART. – Photo from Facebook/Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak – UKAS KUCHING (May 20): The Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) alignment for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) at Jalan Wan Alwi will be entirely elevated, said Datuk Dr Jerip Susil. The Deputy Minister of Transport revealed that the section will include two elevated ART stations. 'One will be located in front of Vivacity Megamall and the other near Kuching Lodge School,' he said during the question-and-answer session at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today. He was responding to See Chee How's (Independent-Batu Lintang) question on the progress of Phase 1 of the KUTS project involving the ART. 'The operations of KUTS Phase 1 will be carried out in stages, with the first section under the Blue Line from Rembus to Riveria, now anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026,' he said. He said work progress on the KUTS Phase 1 Project now stands at 29.89 per cent compared to the planned 33.86 per cent. According to Dr Jerip, the variance of -3.97 per cent is due to construction delays. He added ART operations will be carried out in stages, with full operations expected to commence in 2028. On the Transit Signal Priority (TSP) system planned for the Batu Lintang area, Dr Jerip said there will be one TSP junction in Batu Lintang, located at the Jalan Bampfylde-Jalan Batu Lintang traffic light junction, near Kuching Water Board. He said there will also be a station at SM12, Batu Lintang, which is in front of Public Works Department Kuching Divisional Office, with an elevated design.
