Beaufort folks given till Sunday to vacate land
Published on: Saturday, May 24, 2025 Published on: Sat, May 24, 2025 By: Jinius Pandakin Text Size: A resident is being consoled after witnessing her home is being demolished. BEAUFORT: Residents in Kampung Jimpangah have been given until this Sunday (May 25) to vacate land they have been occupying for decades, following a court eviction order obtained by the landowner. The eviction, which was initially set for Thursday, was postponed after negotiations involving Pertubuhan Rakyat Sabah (Agaras) President Michael Frederick, relevant parties and the affected villagers. The dispute sparked public outrage after villagers claimed they have lived on the land for more than 70 years. Michael said the issue received attention from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Assistant Youth and Sports Minister cum Pintasan Assemblyman Datuk Fairuz Renddan and Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister cum Klias Assemblyman Datuk Isnin Aliasnih. 'The Chief Minister has made efforts to help, expressing his intention for the Kampung Jimpangah residents to remain in the village. 'However, the fact is that the land is under a Country Lease (CL) title, which means it can be owned by any race, and the landowner holds absolute rights,' he said. Advertisement Michael urged all parties not to twist or politicise the matter, adding that his role was only to assist the people. He thanked Sabah Lands and Surveys Director Datuk Bernard Liew and Beaufort Assistant Collector of Land Revenue officials for helping to identify a possible relocation site. Sabah Consumers Front (CFOS) Secretary-General Hashima Hasbullah was also present to assist the villagers during the eviction proceedings. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
