SIPITANG: Five primary schools in Sipitang — SK Banting, SK Merintaman, SK Pantai, SK Kebawang and SK Kawang — held a friendly netball competition at the hall of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Padang Berampah Sipitang on Wednesday. The competition was organised by SK Merintaman and according to its headmaster, Arif Bagol, the event served as preparation for the upcoming Sipitang District School Sports Council (MSSD) netball tournament, which will be held at the hall of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Berampah (SMKPB) Sipitang on July 16-17. Charlayne finishes third at Selangor meet

Advertisement The 23-year-old Sabahan, who just won the 48th Kelantan Amateur Open Golf Champion a week ago, continued her fine form on day one. She stunned the field with a 68 in the opening round to take the lead. However, she faltered the following day with a disastrous 80, but managed to make amends on the final day with a 69. Despite the below-par performance on day two, she said she never gave up. Advertisement 'It was a bit of a bummer that my performance dipped on the second day after starting the tournament strong. 'I think I felt a bit of pressure and I just couldn't find my rhythm. Still, I never lost hope. My main goal for this event was to apply what I learned from my previous tournament and to stay in control of my emotions and thoughts, lower my expectations, and take the pressure off. 'I'm proud to say I managed to achieve that goal and as a bonus, I managed to make a comeback and recover on the final day. I may have missed out by just one stroke, but I'm genuinely happy that I stayed calm and composed right up to the last hole. 'Although I was hoping to make the playoffs, I'll take the result proudly as being able to bounce back meant a lot to me,' she said. Chelsea defender Colwill out of action with ACL injury

(EPA Images pic) Chelsea centre back Levi Colwill suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training, the Premier League club said late on Thursday, with the 22-year-old expected to miss much of the new season. The England international underwent successful surgery on the injury, Chelsea added. Advertisement It typically takes some six to nine months for a player to recover from an ACL injury and return to action. 'The 22-year-old had reported back to Cobham for pre-season at the start of this week before unfortunately sustaining the injury in training,' Chelsea said in a statement. 'Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. 'Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase.' Advertisement Colwill made 43 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and helped the West London side win the Club World Cup in July. Tambunan glad to host event

TAMBUNAN: The 13th Special Education Athletics Championship (KOPK) organised by MSS Sabah which was held over three days here saw 736 student-athletes with special needs from across the State, accompanied by 444 officials and teacher escorts representing 24 districts, making it one of the largest such events held in Sabah. Tambunan District Education Officer Dr Haison Jahudin said the event was not merely a competitive platform, but a space to uncover talent and recognise the exceptional potential of special education students in sports. Advertisement Special recognition was given to Tambunan's Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI), which played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of the event, alongside the supporting efforts of student assistants and the wider community. The championship also served as a platform to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Tambunan's special needs athletes who have brought pride to the state on both national and international stages. One inspirational figure was Felicia Mikat of Tambunan who began her education at SKPK Pekan Tuaran, continued to SMK Badin and later enrolled at the Malaysia Sports School Sabah. Between 2013 and 2017, she secured three gold medals in the National Schools Sports Championship in the 100m, 200m and long jump events. In 2017, Felicia brought home three bronze medals at the Asean Para Games in Kuala Lumpur in the 100m, 200m and 400m events. She also earned three gold medals in the 2016 and 2018 Para Sukma for the same events. Advertisement Another was Marell Michael from Kampung Timbou, Tambunan, a student of PPKI SMK Nambayan, who has shown that discipline and training can lead to exceptional success.
