Will the Boston Celtics keep Joe Mazzulla no matter what next season?

Since taking over as the Boston Celtics head coach, Joe Mazzulla has always had a winning roster. He inherited a team that boasted Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. For the past two seasons, Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday have also been part of the rotation. However, things will be much different in the upcoming season. Mazzulla must now adopt a different style of coaching. Rather than contending for a championship, his remit will primarily be focused on talent development as the Celtics continue to retool the roster following Jayson Tatum's Achilles tendon tear. Therefore, the expectations on Mazzulla's shoulders are far different from what he's become accustomed to. Still, that doesn't mean there won't be high expectations from some sections of the Celtics fan base. In a recent episode of NESN's "Hold My Banner," Travis Thomas & George Balekji discussed Mazzulla's job security, and whether his position could come under the microscope if Boston doesn't achieve its goals next season. In truth, Mazzulla's job is likely safe. However, if you want to watch the discussion, you can do so by clicking on the embedded video above. Can the Boston Celtics secure a winning record next season?

Contending for a championship doesn't appear to be on the cards for the Boston Celtics as they prepare for the 2025-26 NBA season. Brad Stevens has been forced into some tough decisions this summer, leading to multiple key contributors heading out of town. In their place is a string of young and unproven talent, all fighting for the opportunity to cement themselves in Joe Mazzulla's rotation. Fortunately for Celtics fans, Boston is too good to be among the worst teams in the Eastern Conference. The presence of Jaylen Brown and Derrick White will see to that. So, unless the coaching staff shuts down their veteran talents midway through the season, the Celtics should at least be somewhat competitive. The question is, how competitive? During a recent episode of CLNS Media's "The Garden Report," John Zannis, Jimmy Toscano and Bobby Manning all discussed the Celtics' chances of success, and whether the franchise can finish above .500, or whether they will have a losing record and potentially find themselves in the play-in tournament. The only good news is that the Eastern Conference projects to be rather weak next season. You can watch the full podcast episode by clicking on the embedded video above. Will any of the Boston Celtics younger talents take a leap next season?

Heading into the new NBA season, Boston Celtics fans will need to adjust their expectations. While Brad Stevens has reiterated that the team is working through a retooling process, rather than a rebuilding one, there's still a lot of developmental talent on the roster. As such, things could get ugly before they start to get better. After all, most of the youthful talent at Joe Mazzulla's disposal is rather inexperienced at the NBA level, and that includes recent additions Luka Garza and Josh Minott. Nevertheless, the hope will be that with good coaching and consistent roles, at least a couple of the younger guys can take a developmental jump. During a recent episode of the "First To The Floor" podcast, the hosts discussed Boston's youthful roster and debated which members of the younger core could take a developmental leap next season. From third-year forward Jordan Walsh to rookie Hugo Gonzalez, Mazzulla will have his hands full as he tries to educate some future contributors. Who should be part of the Boston Celtics new-look starting five?

Right now, everything to do with the Boston Celtics rotation is in a state of flux. Multiple players have left the franchise this summer, with a younger contingent taking their place. A result of those moves has been a lack of roster depth at the forward and center positions. Furthermore, there are multiple questions surrounding Anfernee Simon's longevity on the team and the lack of defensive upside across the roster. Those questions have led to some heated debates online, as fans try to figure out what Boston's starting rotation is going to look like next season, and how the bench players fit into Joe Mazzulla's plans. Simple questions like whether Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard should start have turned into manuscripts from either side of the argument. In the latest episode of "Taylor Talks Celtics," host Adam Taylor is joined by Cody Chalifoux to break down the ideal starting rotation for Boston and debate how that rotation impacts the bench unit and the overall minutes distribution on the team. Can the Boston Celtics Summer League standouts crack Joe Mazzulla's rotation?

Joe Mazzulla faces a tough task in the upcoming season. Since being hired as the Boston Celtics head coach, Mazzulla has led a championship-level roster. Now, for the first time in his tenure, his remit will be to develop some of the younger talent under contract, either to help them cement themselves as part of the team's future or to help build up their trade value. Brad Stevens has given Mazzulla multiple young players to work with, from Baylor Scheierman and Jordan Walsh, who have been with the team for a year or more, to Luka Garza and Josh Minott, who are looking for a bigger opportunity in the NBA. And that's before we factor in the latest round of rookie additions, highlighted by 19-year-old Hugo Gonzalez. In a recent episode of NESN's "Hold My Banner" podcast, Adam Pellerin and Ountae Campbell discuss whether Walsh and Gonzalez — two players who thrived in Las Vegas Summer League — can find a way of breaking into Mazzulla's game day rotation, and if so, what type of role they could command.
