The TikTok parent had until April 5 to divest by finding a U.S. buyer. 'We hope to continue working in Good Faith with China, who I understand are not very happy about our Reciprocal Tariffs (Necessary for Fair and Balanced Trade between China and the U.S.A.!)… We do not want TikTok to 'go dark.' We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' Trump added in his post. The previous Biden administration proposed a national ban on TikTok if its parent company didn't sell the platform. But incoming President Trump in January signed an earlier executive order to delay the implementation of the bill to require TikTok to divest. Efforts to find a U.S. buyer for TikTok has produced apparent bidders, but as yet no definitive deal for ByteDance to spin off the social media app to avoid a U.S. ban.
