At the start of the week Bristol woke up to the news of a death at the half marathon event on the West Country reported 28-year-old rugby player Jon Devereux, from Chester, died after after collapsing and falling ill at the Great Bristol Live's article on the sudden closure of part of the Co-op car park in Westbury-on-Trym and some walls installed there also gained a lot of attention this week. Nearby residents are now calling for an investigation after the area was cordoned off with blue body found in the search for missing 16-year-old Athrun got a lot of reaction from ITV West Country and Bristol Live audiences. Searches had been ongoing in the West Shore area of Llandudno following the sighting of a body on news from The Dorset Echo, Somerset Live and ITV West Country on the temporary closure of Yeovil's maternity unit gained a lot of traction this week. In a statement the hospital trust told ITV West Country, it "cannot currently safely run the unit" or "safely provide care during labour and birth". "His sudden loss has deeply affected our members and the wider sporting community. "We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jon's family, friends, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time. He will be dearly missed." Tynedale RFC, who Jon also used to play for, praised Jon's "infectious character". The club said in a post: "It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of former player Jon Devereux. "Jon suffered a heart attack while taking part in yesterday's Bristol Half Marathon. "Jon had an infectious character which came to the fore when he joined the Tynedale touring party to Canada last year. "He was a regular participant in our annual 7's competition. "He will be greatly missed by all of us. Our condolences go out to all his family and friends. "Rest in peace, Jon." A statement from the Great Run Company said: "It is with great sadness that The Great Run Company confirms the death of a participant at the Great Bristol Run on Sunday, May 11 2025. "Jon Devereux, aged 28, collapsed during the event, received immediate medical treatment, and later passed away in hospital. "His next of kin have been informed. "The entire team involved in organising the Great Bristol Run extends their heartfelt condolences to Mr Devereux's family and friends. "In accordance with the wishes of the family, no further details will be released. "The cause of death will be determined later, pending medical examination." This year's event took place on May 11 and had sold out. The route takes runners on a scenic tour of the city's history. Runners start at Anchor Road and Canons Way before jogging past green spaces like Castle Park and Green Square.

Jon Devereux, 28, was running the Great Bristol Run half marathon on Sunday and was taken to hospital where he later died. His next of kin has been informed.
