Kamala Harris explores 'drama of running for president' in new book on 2024 bid
A day after Kamala Harris ruled out running for California governor, the former United States vice president announced her forthcoming book will offer a "behind-the-scenes" look into her 2024 presidential campaign. More: Kamala Harris leaves door open for potential 2028 presidential run The book's title, "107 Days," reflects the length of her bid for the Oval Office, from the time former President Joe Biden withdrew from the race until Donald Trump won the following November. "Since leaving office, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on those days, talking with my team, my family, my friends and pulling my thoughts together – in essence, writing a journal that is this book '107 Days' with candor and reflection," she said in a video posted on Instagram. "I've written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey." Jonathan Karp, chief executive officer of the publishing company Simon & Schuster, called Harris "a singular American leader" in a news release about Harris' book published by Simon & Schuster. Karp described the book as captivating: '107 DAYS captures the drama of running for president better than just about anything I've read. It's one of the best works of political nonfiction Simon & Schuster has ever published." "It's an eyewitness contribution to history and an extraordinary story,' he said. The book will be on shelves Sept. 23, the release said. In a post on social media, Harris explained the book is "not a recap of our race." "Writing 107 Days felt like living the campaign in reverse – rewinding each moment and experiencing it all over again. Behind every speech I gave, hand I shook, and story I told on the road, there were deeper layers, quiet reflections, and lessons learned," she wrote. Instead, "it is a candid and personal account of my journey – the shortest presidential campaign in modern history." Looking ahead, the former vice president said in the video that she "will never stop fighting to make our country reflect the very best of its ideals, always on behalf of the people." "In writing this book, one truth keeps coming back to me: Sometimes the fight takes a while, but I remain full of hope, and I remain clear-eyed," Harris said.
