Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb collides with NFL official in bizarre preseason moment
Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb sat out the team's first preseason game of 2025 against the Los Angeles Rams and still, somehow, managed to find some action. Lamb was on the sideline when he started to celebrate wide receiver Jonathan Mingo blowing past a few Rams defensive backs to get wide open on a play in the second quarter. However, Lamb turned his back and a sideline official ran into him. Neither the official nor Lamb expected what happened. Both men were helped up and neither appeared injured. "It's sideline interference. CeeDee Lamb was standing in the restricted white border area, which is our area to officiate the game. The official on the play was focused solely on doing his job, and he ran into CeeDee Lamb, who was standing in that restricted area," referee Alex Moore told a pool reporter, via CBS Sports. "That's what happened. And with that contact, it's an automatic foul." The Cowboys were penalized for Lamb's action. Los Angeles ended up winning the game, 31-21. Stetson Bennett IV had 188 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Blake Corum ran for two more touchdowns. Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton III had 143 passing yards and a touchdown pass. Will Grier was 2-of-3 passing and had a rushing touchdown. Lamb may not see too much time, if at all, in preseason action. He's the team's No. 1 receiver. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in 2024. He had 101 catches for 1,194 yards and six touchdown catches.

Ceedee Lamb, in street clothes, hit with 15-yard penalty after getting trucked by official in Cowboys preseason opener
CeeDee Lamb got tackled and hit with a penalty on his day off. The Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after getting hit by an official on the sidelines. Lamb had been standing on the sideline with his arm in the air to celebrate teammate Jonathan Mingo getting open when the official, who was running with his attention on the play, slammed into his back. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The run-in was called a "foul against an official." Fortunately for Lamb, the official and everyone with stakes in Lamb, the Pro Bowler appeared to be fine after the impact and was even laughing with his friends on the sideline. The play also saw Mingo draw a defensive pass interference penalty from Los Angeles Rams cornerback Shaun Jolly for a 51-yard gain. The result was the Cowboys going from 3rd-and-16 at their own 26-yard line to 1st-and-25 at the Rams' 38-yard line. Lamb was in street clothes because the Cowboys opted to rest pretty much their entire starting offense for their preseason opener. He's coming off another Pro Bowl season with 1,1194 receiving yards and six touchdowns, but he'll be trying to bounce back toward his 1,749-yard peak in 2023.

Why Receivers Are A Key 'Must-Watch' At Cowboys Minicamp
Why Receivers Are A Key 'Must-Watch' At Cowboys Minicamp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the signing of George Pickens, the Dallas Cowboys' receiver room depth chart now looks a little more in order. Advertisement CeeDee Lamb and Pickens as the two top dogs are a given, but underneath them, it is a little jumbled, with Kavonte Turpin, Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, Jonathan Mingo, Parris Campbell, and Ryan Flournoy all fighting for the remaining spots. And that brings us to minicamp at The Star, a three-day affair that launches on Tuesday ... and yes, will be inside ... This will be a chance for those on the roster bubble and fighting to make the coaching staff take notice, and they will have three days to do it. Tolbert, at the time of writing, appears to be the No. 3 receiver, having posted 610 yards and seven touchdowns last season. But then we have Turpin and his electric speed as an option, too. Advertisement But for me, minicamp is going to be crucial for others further down the depth chart. Jonathan Mingo at Cowboys Practicevia Ed Werder Mingo looms as the biggest watch here. Having been traded for last season, he barely saw the field under Mike McCarthy, and now, under Brian Schottenheimer, will he be able to make enough of an impact to validate his standing on the active roster in 2025? Minicamp will give us a good indication as to where Mingo sits in the pecking order and how the Cowboys view him entering training camp. The others are Flournoy and Brooks, with both still looking to establish themselves as genuine contributors. Training camp will be where we see who can take their chance, but minicamp at The Star is a chance to separate themselves from the competition early on. Advertisement And we will be eagerly watching to see who does it. Cowboys Camp Battle Pits Tolbert vs. Mingo
An interesting training camp battle is set to take place when the Dallas Cowboys begin their offseason work in Oxnard, California. When the Cowboys traded for wide receiver George Pickens, he instantly became the team's WR2. Advertisement And with franchise wideout CeeDee Lamb, Dallas its top dog. But … the WR3 job is open and up for grabs. The WR3 role in an offense has become essential to a team's success with 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WRSs) being one of the most frequently used alignments in today's NFL. For the Cowboys, the two receivers primed to compete for the WR3 gig seem to be Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo. By the numbers? It's Tolbert's job to lose as he is coming off a breakout season where he recorded 49 receptions for 610 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2024 season. Meanwhile … After being traded to Dallas midway through last season, Mingo posted just five receptions for 46 yards and no touchdowns in his eight appearances with the Cowboys. Advertisement And yet some have predicted that it will be Mingo who will start alongside Lamb and Pickens to form a revamped wide receiver trio heading into the 2025 season. One big reason Mingo gets mentioned here, frankly? Dallas surrendered a fourth-round pick to Carolina in that trade … And the front office would like to be proven right, While Mingo stands 6-2, 220 pounds and offers a big-bodied skillset that is arguably different than what the Cowboys currently have on the roster, Tolbert has proven to be more productive with his increased reps. There are other candidates, too. And the Dak Prescott-led passing attack with largely be about Lamb and Pickens. Advertisement But then comes competition. Training camp will determine who's ready to step up to the plate and secure the third starting wideout role. Inside What Pickens Trade Means To Cowboys Depth Chart Battle
FRISCO — Finally, the Dallas Cowboys have their No. 2 receiver for Dak Prescott. They have traded for George Pickens, adding the perfect complement to CeeDee Lamb and a downfield presence that this offense has lacked. Assuming the Cowboys manage the personality off the field, the talent on the turf takes them to another level and should help this group get back to a higher level of performance. Advertisement The addition of Pickens brings some additional relief because of the Cowboys' lacking talent behind Lamb to command that No. 2 spot. Now that Pickens holds that title, a battle for a new job begins. Similar to last offseason, the Cowboys are waiting on one of their young receivers to solidify himself as their No. 3 receiver. As far as his options, Prescott's top three are Lamb, Pickens and tight end Jake Ferguson. Wide receiver KaVontae Turpin exists outside this conversation, able to be utilized in a variety of ways. But the Cowboys have invested in Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo and are positing some faith that at least one of the two will embrace that role. Both have their positives in the eyes of the franchise. Advertisement Tolbert has the connection with Prescott that never had the opportunity to flesh out for a variety of reasons. Mingo never really gained his footing when the Cowboys acquired him midseason, but there is an intention to get something out their investment. Tolbert's experience with the franchise and with Prescott gives him the initial edge. However, that position will need to be earned this summer. And while Tolbert and Mingo are the lead candidates here, the Cowboys have more pass catchers down the depth chart capable of making their own offseason splash. Dallas' bold move signals a vibe shift and a new standard for this offense going forward. The Cowboys have a very specific window to capitalize on with Prescott, so all facets of this offense will need to be on point. With that in mind, this battle for the No. 3 receiver spot becomes one to monitor as the Cowboys get closer to training camp.
